Forza Motorsport Update 9 Adds Porsche 963 & Sebring

Ahead of the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours, Forza Motorsport Update 9 adds one of the premier prototypes in sportscar racing: The Porsche 963 joins the grid, while Sebring expands the track list.

While the previous Update 8 was focused on 'Track Toys', Forza Motorsport Update 9 emphasizes the 'track' part even more. Not only does Sebring International Raceway return to the track list, the points leader from both IMSA and WEC will also join the grid, as the Porsche 963 arrives to the game - including a Porsche Racing overall.

The latter two will be available as paid DLC at $4.99 / €4.99 / £3.99, but only from June 20 onwards. Before this, players can grab the 'Porsche Combo' entirely for free until June 19, 23:59 UTC. It is not part of car pass or any of the game's editions.

The car also comes with an appropriate playground. Of course, Le Mans is already in Forza Motorsport, but thus far, Sebring was not. The venue is part of the IMSA schedule, and marked the 2023 WEC season opener as well - the 963 participated in both events. Known for its punishing bumps, Sebring is also the site of the annual 12 Hours, which first took place in 1950.

To go with this, featured multiplayer events are now up to an hour long, with 30-minute events now being part of the Touring Car and GT playlists. Additionally, players can tackle 45-minute singleplayer events. As a reward for completing the Endurance Tour, players will receive the new-to-the-series Nissan R88C, and completing the Open Class Tour rewards them with the Chevron B16.

Nürburgring-Nordschleife With Updated Kerbs​

Aside from the new content, existing tracks have seen revisions, most notably the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and Laguna Seca. While the latter now has its pit exit in the correct spot, the Green Hell features revisions to the kerbs according to the real-life changes made between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

That means that caution is advised when flying down the Fuchsröhre heading into Adenauer Forst. The final fast left, just after the compression, was very inviting for kerb-cutters in the past - now, the rumble strip is significantly higher, so staying off of it and taking a different line is important.

Multiplayer Events
The Endurance Series in Featured Multiplayer ratchets up the strategy and focus of the most competitive drivers for up to 1 hour per race.
With a different division each week, these races will require a renewed focus on strategies around pitting, tire compounds, and fuel levels.
We’re also permanently adding 30-minute-long races to the event rotation within both the Forza Touring Car and Forza GT Series. Going forward, the length of these evergreen Spec Series will cycle between ‘Short,’ ‘Medium’ and the new ‘Long’ races. The Nürburgring Nordschleife and Full Circuit layouts have also been included in the event rotation for Long races in Featured Multiplayer.

The cars in this game have the worst engine sounds of any current racing game. All sound like they've been recorded in a big echoey warehouse. Also the fact the 963 isn't included in the car pass after that date is a complete con.

I only took the car out for a couple laps at Nürburgring GP. It's OK. I didn't have much to compare it to, because I didn't run straight to the prototypes in FM23. It's nice that it was free for early adopters because what Turn 10 is asking for it is kind of steep.

Sebring is a great returning track to have. I'm having fun running it.

The curbs at the Nordschleife are appreciated. While they appear to be bigger than how the look in other titles (Acc for example), they still demand respect. I already had to DNF a bunch of races behind trying to drive on the fixed curbs.

I think the wall at Laguna Seca is a bit overkill, but I get it. If we were left on the honor system, 99% of the players would join the track right at the end of the pit wall. it's still strange to see because I have become use to using the proper pit exit in other racing titles, and not needing the wall to do so.

There are a few changes that didn't make the patch notes. The sky lighting and clouds have received some attention. The home space is no longer brightened, and the sun isn't beaming onto the car. Some cars have received some audio tweaks and, they have added a track PA announcer, who says things specifically about each track, as selling VIP passes, thanking the sanctioning body, and congratulating the winners of the race. That was a nice touch.

While not perfect, the update is a step in the right direction. Endurance racing, although something that could always be done in single player, is welcome. I only wish there was a game mode in single player that was pre-set for endurance racing... Looks like I got to set one up.

Yeah its even worse than FM7, and that was not good either.

yes, I just tried it again. Basic things like shifting are just broken if its not one of the few directly supported wheels. I'm using a simucube, and while I could map upshift and downshift, they didn't actually work.
 
Turn10, Microsoft should have shut down this studio. For ever.
They only have 2 studios that make racing games and one of them is busy making Fable right now, so the chances of them closing their main racing game studio are probably less than zero.

Kind of strange that both racing game studios are heavily involved in the Fable reboot. Turn 10 built the game engine, and Playground is making the game.

I guess if Fable craters, then Satya gets to close two studios for the cost of one game?
 
Tried the sebring endurance race and I've never known a more ridiculous game for tyre wear. You get a notification saying "moderate tyre wear" then all of a sudden you lose around 30mph if not more off your top speed down the straights and AI cars that will have pitted on the same lap as you with the same tyres overtaking you like you're stood still. Absolute waste of my time.

Because it happens before the pit stop too and you can run through the grid before starting the race where it tells you? Either way it's completely unrealistic you wouldn't lose 30-40mph in straight line speed with tyres worn over 50%. The game is awful.

Yeah right! Moderate wear doesn't pop up until you've used over 75% of the tire. You basically rode the tires down to the cores and expect to have full grip all the way to tire failure. LOL.
No I didn't. As soon as the tyres hit 50% you lose ridiculous amounts of straight line speed. But then you are a forza fanboy so you will never admit anything is wrong
