Most Played Racing Games On Steam In May 2024

With the racing season firing on all cylinders and big releases following suit, sim racers and racing gamers are spoilt for choice. Here's what they most played on Steam in May 2024.

May 2024 saw the release of F1 24 - albeit at the very tail end of the month, with the full release happening on May 31. As a result, the game's statistics are not included in the list below - also because the player average for less than half a day the game was fully available in May are not available.

What is available, however, is the game's peak since its release. Four hours after its full launch, F1 24 peaked at 8,216 players - considerably less than F1 23's all-time peak of 14,512 in November 2023 and post-release peak of 13,302 in June 2023.

Meanwhile, nothing changed at the top of the list - but third-placed Assetto Corsa achieved a milestone. For the first time in its near-10-year history, Kunos Simulazioni's evergreen racing sim averaged more than 10,000 players. Undoubtedly, AC's thriving modding community deserves credit for this - the title being played more than ever almost 10 years after its full release is nothing short of astounding.

AC is not a racing game?? So LFM, WSS, SGP, just to name a few, what are travel agencies?
LFM AC has not been a success, only the rookie series gets any numbers. WSS also very bare-bones for numbers, I've tried both. I am a fan of AC, but I think its demographic is very different to AMS2/ACC/iRacing. Obviously there will be some crossover and its a fantastic gateway into the hobby.

Idk why AC fans get unreasonably angry when you point out the majority of the AC player base are drifting/cruising, not racing MP on LFM or whatever. It's just the truth. The same way the majority of BeamNG active players seem to be kiddies doing crashing videos for TikTok. Even the BeamNG community acknowledges it has a problem:

On today's episode of https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6620876/

The ignore list grows ever longer.

Back to the topic, I wonder how much of rF2's decline was down to them not using the Steam store properly when it came to selling the DLC. Selling individual items, or small incomplete packs, then later larger more complete packs and not discounting the original purchasers who only needed some of the large pack essentially making them buy the same item multiple times.

That and the much awaited new UI, taking forever and being nothing but a reskin of the same engine and not fixing any of the issues of the old UI. Roster management and adding AI skins and selecting individual cars to race against is absurdly difficult for what is a pretty basic function. Yes you can do it, no you should need to open mod tools to do it. You need to be able to do it to otherwise you end up with some seriously immersion breaking monstrosities out there and 12 of one make and 2 of another.

Aww am I not allowed to gloat? I guess not. I will anyways though. Its what I do. Gives me a happy feeling inside. Maybe next time those people won't send me messages on the LMU forums about the things I say about their precious failing game that is sitting in dead last place.

The one on that list that surprises me is WRC 7, is there any particularly reason for those numbers? I remember really liking WRC 7, it's a lot of fun with a gamepad, and let you do single events and custom championships with real drivers, a feature that for some stupid reason has been absent from every subsequent WRC title, including the latest one by Codemasters. But ultimately I would choose to play WRC Generations or DiRT Rally 1 or 2 over WRC 7, so it's crazy to see it still doing so well (relative to other rally titles)

For me, WRC7 was the only one polished enough that I finished the career before getting frustrated with bugs. Also the physics was worse in 8/9 before getting better again with 10/G.

Guess the same doesn't count for BeamNG which is even older?
BeamNG is actually still supported by devs, not only modders, and they don't even rely on DLCs.
I really want it to get more recognition between simracers, it may not have the best tire model, but everything else is simulated with great accuracy, and just the sheer variety of available maps and vehicles means you will find something for you.

Every month it gets pointed out that WRC7 was on sale for $2 and rocketed up the charts.

Even if its no longer on sale, Its still going to be riding the tail end of that surge.

Must have been free to download recently for a given period.

Or do the other 400K download for the sake of it.
I have it on my hard drive, mainly just to check out the work the author put in. Although free roam driving isn't really my thing " normally race the AI of all things is AC" and don't have a problem with it. Its what you make of it, just like AI in all sims. I can say, when I get burned out on racing, sometime I go to a free roam server and just drive. That can be kinda refreshing for a brief period of time.

Get ready for a surge of LMU in June, with its unbelievable free update coming along with innovative never seen before features like : a radar, a replay system, ONE free car. And more important than any other news, a brand new approach to scam : an upcoming season pass broken up in 4 packages until end of 2024 while the game is still in early access ! This will definitely bring the game to greater heights, can't wait for the June Steam charts !!

This isn't a democracy it's a privately owned website with ToS Board Rules and you should have got notification.
I wrote precisely because I did not receive any notification as to why my message was deleted, in the rules it does not seem to me that it is forbidden to express one's opinions, whether shared or not by other users, obviously without offending anyone.

A fact, well known or not, is always supported by data, that is what makes a fact a fact.
Do you have any data to back this fact? Could you share the data?
Opinion on the other end, does not require proof, it does not matter, it is just an opinion.
Many people having the same opinion does not make that opinion a fact, just a belief.
Open AC's content manager and then the server browser, refresh and sort on players. There is your data. The majority, by a largeeee extend, is ALWAYS playing non serious fun mods like shotoko japan, drifting, tourist ring etc. It's like that, every single day of the week. It's very difficult in AC to find a good server(outside scheduled races) with a normal race at good circuit with race cars but at the same time you could find always a massive amount of shutoko/practice/drift servers that are filled with fun drivers.

What more data do you want, it's out there every day of the week! It's a fact not an opinion or believe, the guy you quoted is simply right with what he stated.

Great Video with some good humor, thanks for posting:thumbsdown:. and agree with your post.

I personally look at BeamNG from a Sim Racers point of view and while the damaged model is awesome and an important part of the Driving / Racing Simulation, it's all the other elements that appeal.:)

I just had to....:rolleyes::D

Sorry you should have had a notice I will look into that.
From our Board Rules:
"Mutual respect between the people using the OverTake website(s) and forums. This means you may not personally attack other forum users.
The staff retain the right to edit/remove content posted by any user if the content is against the rules and can add warnings, or if necessary ban users."

I wonder how RSS and VRC support themselves if AC is only cruisers and drifters? Paid racecar mods with multiple devs per team.

I understand some people would like AC to have more convenient racing as per iRacing and ACC, but to simply discount the private leagues is a little disengenius I think.

Not that any of this matters in the slightest.

The game was released without a replay system? Wow in 2024.

you still can't race Le Mans or any track against 20 AI, the most simple basic feature Ai number is not there.
Flop detected. June hype, july and august back to the lowest player number again.
