Isle of Man TT Circuit For AC: Tackle The Mountain Course On Four Wheels

Radical Rear end IOM.jpg
The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy holds its 103rd running this weekend - and its infamous 60-kilometer Mountain Course for Assetto Corsa has received a timely update ahead of the event.

It is known as one of the most dangerous races in the world: The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy sees motorbikes fly around public roads on the namesake island at ludicrous speeds, with riders' heads often missing lamp posts, walls and other obstacles by mere centimeters. In total, 266 competitors have died at the course since 1911 - danger lurks at every corner.

Bike racing fans have the dedicated TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge series of games to tackle the 60-kilometer road course that leads them across most of the Isle of Man. However, it is also possible to run the Mountain Circuit on four wheels - thanks to Assetto Corsa mods.

Created by mod author Frank1463, this hard-to-tame beast of a track has been available in AC for almost seven years as of May 2024. However, with a major graphical overhaul now completed by OverTake user ImWilde, you can now race at the legendary road course with all of the graphical pleasures that modern modded Assetto Corsa has to offer.

Road Surface & Scenery

Whilst not a part of the new update, the road surface of the original is still very detailed - especially if you like to mess around with the photo mode within Assetto Corsa. The ability to catch cars bottoming out on the bumps of the unrestricted roads of the IOM is something very special that is very hard to find, even in a title with a modding base as wide as Assetto Corsa.

IOM Sparks.jpg

Radical SR3 XXR's screaming around the IOM TT Circuit.

The notable changes to the already fantastic IOM TT circuit's scenery include an overhaul of textures and the addition of rainfx, treefx and grassfx. These updates might sound small, but when they come together, they transform the surroundings of the track.

The best example to give is the quality of the overhanging trees. The leaf textures make it hard to see where you are going, further adding to the dangerous nature of racing on the closed public roads of the IOM. Extra buildings, objects and road signs have also been placed although they are not always true to life.

New buildings and road signs are part of the update.

Further updates are planned for the graphical roadmap of this awe-inspiring circuit. Assetto Corsa is full of cars to choose from, like the Radical SR3 and classic F1 and open-wheel cars feel unbelievable shooting through the narrow roads and across roundabouts and junctions.

But it would not be AC modding if there were no motorcycles available for what is a title that was never intended to support them. @jurik1984 has created a sidecar motorcycle mod for the IMZ M63S Strela-1 that should feel right at home on the Isle of Man Mountain Circuit - do let us know how you get on should you decide to try these bikes!

Which car would you send around the Isle of Man TT Circuit? Let us know over on X @OverTake_gg or down in the comments below!

It's great that the years-old Assetto Corsa mod for the Snaefell Mountain Course continues to get updated and visually overhauled.

But the greatest mod for the Isle of Man circuit is by Jim Pearson. A one man, 14 year labour of love scratch-built by hand in Grand Prix Legends from 1000s of photographs gathered during several in-person visits to the track. One of the single greatest achievements in sim racing modding history. It's since been faithfully converted and upgraded – with Jim's permission and support – to rFactor 2 by S Victor, and it looks absolutely stunning and drives very well. GPLaps has made several videos about the track (see below).

If any mod deserved to be promoted to a wider audience through an editorial on this website, in my opinion, it's Jim's version of the track and the painstaking rF2 conversion. In my opinion, the unique opportunity to drive rF2-only mods like Jim's IoM track is reason alone to purchase the rF2 base game.

If you see this, thank you Jim for your amazing work. :inlove:

Jesus. Sometimes I’m glad I virtually only play in sims and don’t feel such urge to race IRL.
Think about how many people die on the roads just blasting about though. My mum's friend was killed by a lorry driver that just piled into the bad of her. Anything can wipe you out on the roads.

True, but still usual , modern racing tracks are way more safer than Isle of man

honestly, there isn"t any good version like the TT isle of man bike game version, I miss someone does a recent version like this for the racing cars game.

Absolutely, I'm baffled why this amazing track mod and the Dundrod conversion in rF2 gets so little credit.

AC :O_o: you got be shittin' me

lol :coffee:

What ? does Stephen owe you some money again ? :x3:

Serious, if the tracks were reversed in the 2 sims everyone would be calling the rF2 version a cartoon even though they conversions from the same author lol

News spoiled watching TT though, 24 hours behind 'ere.
Can't get TT pass because of my through the router VPN apparently :O_o:
Only place on the planet I can't sub.

Anyway I think it's an affront to not even mention Jim Pearson.
Total lack of principle not to include the real deal, no skin off my nose.

Oh and people need to get out more.

Go and have a good look at the rF2 changelogs for Isle of Man and Dundrod.
Compare those to AC, absolutely no disrespect meant.

svictor is a bloody certified genius in my book ! :coffee:

Flickering Fluro tubes ?
His Dark Material's DUST ! :confused: :roflmao::laugh:

Asked for nothing, not even a cuppa.
If this released in AC it be on that paysite.
Just shows the true level of dedication and passion from both Jim and svictor .

A fantastic IRL Video of it being done in a car, and in cockpit (Sim Racing ) view as well....awesome:geek:

It also struck me at how much grip this car has and it would be a great exercise to remember what speed this car was doing at particular points on the track and see if our virtual counterparts can match it, especially around corners:geek:

Love the rF2 version

I took the Strela around the short course in AC last year if anyone wants to see what it looked like before.

Tricky course to learn - and a sidecar rig handles very differently from four wheels!

Good fun though - thanks to all the modders.

spoilers !

look at the head on you

welcome to my ignore list

Spoilers? Really dude its one of the biggest sport news events right now. Every article since it has happened has either his photo on the cover of him crying looking to the sky or just a photo of Michael and Joey. You can't on youtube and search the TT right now without seeing the historical win by Michael. Even on Reddit it is every where. Do you live under a rock? And I'm posting spoilers? Give me a break kid.

Also here you go... ;)

Be careful, you aren't supposed to be allowed to talk about rF in an asseto corsa post

Considering how many AC fans pop into other game threads to point out their shortcomings I'm sure it'll be forgiven this time.;)

RD, the "major overhaul" you're speaking about in this article and which I was ecstatic to get my hands on is something that looks worse than Grand Prix 2.

Do you seriously consider this an upgrade in 2024?

Thank you, I did not know about that mod, you made me curious, I went to the workshop, installed it. Impressed, glad I could try it.

Looking at your picture, you need to work on your version of AC, mine looks nothing like your and looks very 2024.

I did the same yesterday, and agree, how Connor can promote this and ignore the rF2 one is beyond me especially since he's a photographer.
It's got to be down to AC bias.
@Connor Minniss please try the other version then update the article.

It's not so much bias but more the fact that this one got updated recently - and the fact that most users are interested in the AC side of mods first and foremost.

I do agree that we should highlight the rF2 version as well, though. Maybe à la "An Underrated rF2 Track Mod Gem", that sort of thing :)
