After announcing the M2 CS Racing and the M4 GT4, RaceRoom unveiled the BMW M8 GTE to be the final car in the upcoming content drop to be released on May 22.
Three new cars are set to join RaceRoom very soon: After the BMW M2 CS Racing and the BMW M4 GT4 had been announced, the question remained what the third car for the upcoming content drop could be. Would it be a drift car? Or the current LMDh prototype?
Well, neither of them - instead, the BMW M8 GTE is joining the RaceRoom grids. This means that the Porsche 911 RSR 2019 - the only GTE car in the sim thus far - is finally getting some competition. To the dismay of many racing fans, the real-life GTE class is no more as of the start of the 2024 season, but luckily, its cars are still around in sim racing.
The M8 GTE roamed the circuits of the world from 2018 to 2021 and gained quite a bit of reputation during that time. Not necessarily because of its accolades, as it did win races in IMSA and came second in-class at the 2018 6 Hours of Fuji in WEC, but rather because of its sheer size. Countless 'Big Boi M8' memes have been created throughout the car's life cycle, as the M8 towered over its GTE competition, not to mention it absolutely dwarfing the LMP1 prototypes.
Update May 22, 2024
Not only has RaceRoom added the new cars, but also made some quite extensive changes under the hood. For instance, ABS levels have been added, as well as more detailed Traction Control Settings. Additionally, several pieces of content - both cars and tracks - have been given updates, such as the Sachsenring being brought up to its 2024 spec. Imola received a similar treatment. Reworked baseline setups and and BoP tweaks round out the update.
