BMW M8 GTE Completes Trio Of New RaceRoom Cars (Updated With Patch Notes)

RaceRoom-BMW-M8-GTE.jpg
After announcing the M2 CS Racing and the M4 GT4, RaceRoom unveiled the BMW M8 GTE to be the final car in the upcoming content drop to be released on May 22.

Three new cars are set to join RaceRoom very soon: After the BMW M2 CS Racing and the BMW M4 GT4 had been announced, the question remained what the third car for the upcoming content drop could be. Would it be a drift car? Or the current LMDh prototype?

Well, neither of them - instead, the BMW M8 GTE is joining the RaceRoom grids. This means that the Porsche 911 RSR 2019 - the only GTE car in the sim thus far - is finally getting some competition. To the dismay of many racing fans, the real-life GTE class is no more as of the start of the 2024 season, but luckily, its cars are still around in sim racing.

The M8 GTE roamed the circuits of the world from 2018 to 2021 and gained quite a bit of reputation during that time. Not necessarily because of its accolades, as it did win races in IMSA and came second in-class at the 2018 6 Hours of Fuji in WEC, but rather because of its sheer size. Countless 'Big Boi M8' memes have been created throughout the car's life cycle, as the M8 towered over its GTE competition, not to mention it absolutely dwarfing the LMP1 prototypes.

RaceRoom BMW Trio Release Date

With the announcement of the BMW M8 GTE, RaceRoom also confirmed the release date of the three cars for the sim. The BMW trio is set to launch on May 22. Meanwhile, developer KW Studios also hinted at more new content, as they have "already licensed more endurance focused cars", according to the M8 Steam news post.

Update May 22, 2024
Not only has RaceRoom added the new cars, but also made some quite extensive changes under the hood. For instance, ABS levels have been added, as well as more detailed Traction Control Settings. Additionally, several pieces of content - both cars and tracks - have been given updates, such as the Sachsenring being brought up to its 2024 spec. Imola received a similar treatment. Reworked baseline setups and and BoP tweaks round out the update.

A few years ago, it seemed like everybody was going for GT3 cars. Is "endurance" now the next trend with Reiza adding more "IMSA" related content, as well as Rennsport and now RaceRoom going for some of these cars too? Or is this more guided by the fact that these are the only race cars left that manufacturers have to offer and promote? In any case it's always good to see more cars on offer.

Sportscar and Endurance I'd say is in a boom period.
IMSA and most GT3 racing is available free to watch and often provides some really good racing.
WEC & Le Mans are breaking their previous attendance records.

I think this has spurred interest in these classes in sim racing.
Enough so we have a WEC game/sim now and I can' think of a sim being actively updated that doesn't have some form of endurance racing content.

Now this is the car i'm actually happy about. I knowe people will moan about GTE being outdated and people will start asking for more (where Corvette, where Aston...).
But it is not about "We only have 2 cars now." but about "We finally have 2 cars now!". The time has come that we get rid of a single-car-class that is not meant to be one :D

Oh and with the statement "We've already licensed more endurance focused cars." we can hope for other related things. Surely not day/night-cycle, c'mon, be reasonable once. but maybe driver swaps or alike. I mean, Endurance races are not only taking part for 12 or 24hours, but also many many 4 or 6 to 8 hours races happen during the day.

all feels slow with raceroom, all these cars are already in the others game like rF2 or ACC, and since longtime (not the last GT4 but we all know it wont change drasticaly).
The real question is when DX12, new graphics, rain and night, and AI fix ?
When no more server, is it the end of raceroom ? cause we need permanent connection to play...
There are so much questions overtaking the game.

Yup. All of those with day time progression and driver swaps even on ADAC GT masters on their actual 1 hour race format. Deal?

Point to me where the M8 GTE is in ACC

They changed the FFB too many times. Used to be my favorite sim of them all, but the latest iteration of the FFB is so bad that I can't stand it. There was a preceding, similar 2 year period where they messed up the FFB. Eventually it got great again and then of course they kept ****ing with it.

I give up. I own every car but I doubt I'll ever play it again. Unless they change the FFB! But I know they'll just keep tinkering and **** it up again.

Why bother.

I thought they only did one major FFB change couple years ago to get pure physics based FFB. Source for later changes? Perhaps you mean tire physics improvements?

what is your wheel ? everytime I can see someone is saying it's going bad, it has not a DD.

I wait for the day, they fix the ridiculous track limits! Seems that the stewards are visually disabled.

i dont have a DD wheel , and i think RR is the best ffb out there compared to the other games i have , but i did also read what the ffb is supposed to do and it does what it says on the tin ....
that combined with the v5 tyres/ suspension update has made driving it a pleasure
Andi

I place rF2 and ACC before, even iRacing.
If I can say one first today, the feeling from Assetto corsa competizione is my favorite with rF2 ;)
But raceroom has a better suspension feeling for sure, and I like very much the FFB, since the update it's far more alive, with the new tyres, I have the feeling of my real car. It's now very close with rF2 and ACC, just something with the rackforce in corner strange with formula vs Assetto Corsa for example.
Assetto 1, rF2 and iRacing have the same global feeling with rack force with Formula cars in a corner, raceroom is off, massive room for improvement in this part for my point of view.

I have tested many times to understand what raceroom is missing for me, and for me it's in the rackforce, something strange in a corner with fast open wheel car or fast cars, when I test Assetto1, iRacing and rF2, immediately I feel the difference, and about AMS2 for example, it's not even in the same league competition.

About the FFB, I can't understand how they can feel it worst than before, it's so much better in my hands, when I compare to before and my real car.

Mainly because before it felt more mechanic and exaggerated, but strongly felt. It took me a while to get used to but finally and thanks to andi's recommendations i finally get a nice FFB config (G920) that was a bit far away from sim recommendations. Specially solved with the linearity and min force. With taking out recently the linearity... had to work again moving up the min force and remake the multipliers to get same good feeling without clipping and adding a lot of the extra bump amplifier. It is more detailed but bit more subtile in terms of strength than other titles... RF2 and LMU for example is like you feel "rails" on the tyres, while in iracing you feel more the track, but less the tyres or the balance of the car at least on my wheel.

As always, "easy" and "quick" is mainly preferred but even on a low budget if you take your time you can get a very good feeling (even i still miss some friction feel of the track)... But you have to try and try... Same as a Fanatec vs Moza FFB config... to put in hardware.
