Community Spotlight | SHR Modding’s Brilliant Sound Mods

SHR Modding Assetto Corsa Sound Mods 01.jpg
Community member SHR Modding has created some of the best sounding cars in the Assetto Corsa community, many of which are available for free here at RaceDepartment.

Great sounds for a sim racing car can add a layer of immersion and improve the enjoyment of driving. RaceDepartment member SHR Modding (ACFAN) has created some of the best sounding car mods in the Assetto Corsa community, and even shared his talents with Reiza in their development of Automobilista 2.

SHR hasn’t limited himself to only one type of car. There are currently sounds on offer for road cars, GTE and GT3 tin tops, modern and classic F1 cars, and even a transport van. Comparison videos of his work are rampant on YouTube, and the quality of the work is immediately evident when compared to each mod’s respective real-world counterpart.

His most popular and well-loved sound mod is for the modern Porsche 911 RSR. Not content with creating one great sound, he amended the mod to include different sounds for the various exhaust configurations for the car, including split rear, centre rear, and side exiting exhaust.

Another hair-raising sound mod from SHR, and one of the more recent releases is the screaming BMW V12 found in the McLaren F1 GTR. The car itself is a work of art and deserving of these supplemental sound treatments.

The latest version of the F1 Sounds Megapack from SHR Modding includes sounds for each of the current generation of Formula 1 engine manufacturers to mod the Race Sim Studio Formula Hybrid cars. In addition to the modern cars, SHR also included sounds for classic cars such as the Ferrari F2004 and the Renault R25 in the pack.

A lesser-known collaboration for SHR Modding was with fellow RD community member Fuzo in the creation of the brilliant Cupra Leon Competición car. The sounds are just one outstanding facet of this car, and it’s definitely worth adding to your AC collection if you haven’t already done so.

The dozens of mods available here at RaceDepartment from SHR Modding are an excellent way to enhance your favourite cars in Assetto Corsa, or bring new appeal to a car you might not enjoy yet. A big thanks to community member SHR Modding for sharing his great work with us.

I thought sound modding on cars was somehow useless, until I installed SHR's 911 GT3R mod... Then, well, I basically downloaded each of his works, the quality is truly impressive and it really makes driving more immersive and exciting. Hats down, and thanks for sharing these resources !

I wonder if there's any chance he can get these sounds into rF2...?
rF2 uses the Miles sound engine so, it's a whole different beast in terms of getting results like those of F-mod or the custom sound-engines used by iRacing / RaceRoom / CodeMasters titles, etc. I don't mean to suggest similar results are impossible in rF2 but, comparable examples are very rare at best. I'm not convinced the audio system in rF2 is currently working to it's full potential though, as the 3D modes seem broken.

RSS Modding (GT1 Mod and more) has also produced some amazing sounds in Assetto Corsa.

Love SHR Moddings work, it really adds to the immersion. I wonder if his skills will be able to remove the popping audio issues in AMS2?

RD is a better place now Mr 604 is on the job.

Just one thing, every TM-Modding car here on RD has sounds from @ACFAN, not only Cupra and we are very thankful for it. The sound is very important part of each mod and @ACFAN always nails it.

Despite becoming a lot better, default sounds in most simracing titles leave a lot out.
I have never heard the 'washboard' curb or the dogbox first gear take up clunk sound in any sim.
Maybe it is a limitation in software.

Having the drive-train physically modeled may be a factor in how the sounds can be dynamically integrated, especially where the interaction between gear-box / engine / tires / & track-surface are concerned. Otherwise, some effects must be baked into the audio and tend to be much less convincing in the end result.

I couldn't see anything in the archive except F1 sounds and RSS cars. I wanted the McLaren F1 GTR mod. :(
