An electric concept marks Škoda’s debut within Gran Turismo, and it will be joined by Honda’s Afeela and a classic Chevrolet.

It is nearly time for April 2024’s Gran Turismo 7 update, and this time it adds a new brand to the series.

Czech brand Škoda will appear for the first time, but not with a rally-bred Felicia or Octavia vRS. Instead, it has created an electric supercar concept.

The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo made its debut today in Prague as a low-slug, single-seater, supposedly ‘inspired by’ the 1957 Škoda 1100 OHC Spider.

In the virtual world, it features a carbon monocoque. On each axle are twin electric motors for a total of 1,071bhp and consequently all-wheel-drive.

The rear is mostly open, suspension details visible, sitting beneath a pair of active aero flaps. Inside, there looks to be an augmented reality-style driver’s display – an Enyaq this most certainly is not.

“The roots of Škoda Motorsport go back more than 120 years, with countless successes,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto.

“The next step? Joining the world of e-racing by launching a stunning new virtual concept car into the world’s most successful racing game, Gran Turismo. The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo study bridges our rich heritage to our electric future and new Modern Solid design language.”

Sadly, the classic roadster design to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans has not been confirmed for Gran Turismo 7 inclusion.

Im trying not to be the Old Man Yells At Cloud, but I'm dissappointed with Skoda's design. To me, although it does feature Skoda design elements, it doesnt resemble Skoda. I would've much preferred an hommage to the Fabia WRC, or maybe an over-the-top version of the Fabia R2. In isolation it looks eye-catching but put together with all the other VGT Hypercars it looks incredibly mundane.

Hmmm... it looks so... hmmm... disappointing.
But aside from how it looks, it would be nice to see this car in AC. Several other models are already available, so there is a chance

This is the only GT I don't own and tbh I'm still not remotely bothered. I can think of plenty of cars they could add before made up ones.

The point has come where the "weird! and why?" has become the norm, so much so that it doesn't matter to those that just don't care anymore.
