BeamNG.drive Shows Drifting Teaser For Upcoming Update

Anything goes in BeamNG.drive: The continually-evolving sandbox driving simulation has something for everyone - and the latest teaser should get the attention of drift fans in particular.

It has been a while since the latest update for BeamNG.drive has dropped. Version 0.31 launched right before Christmas in 2023, and since then, a few teasers have been show with an official announcement yet to follow. In early April, a big truck hauling seemingly heavy freight on not one, but two trailers at the same time was shown as "Work In Progress".

The latest teaser is quite a different animal, however. Developer BeamNG took to their Twitter (or X) account to show video of a drift run up a mountainside highway. Shown from the cockpit camera perspective, the run looks impressively smooth. The car is supposedly a drift version of the game's 200BX.

Meanwhile, the short video also shows the car to have improved mirrors, which many of the game's fans should be happy about, judging by the reactions on the post.

What exactly the update includes and when it is going to launch remain open questions, however. Our own Connor Minniss has recently voiced his hopes for a proper racing update to the title - could the checkered flag used at the end of the post hint at that as well? Time will tell, but we will keep our eyes peeled.

I don't really drift, but if there's one (non-rally specific) game where I like to go sideways, it would be BeamNG

Probably Ibishu rework is coming and this drift version will be available as one of the setups

What are you hoping for in the next BeamNG.drive update?

Not hoping for anything in relation to BeamNG.drive, but if it is ever available in VR, I might give it a try out of curiosity. :)

It IS available for VR. Played it just the day before yesterday on my NVIDIA 2070 and my Pico 4 headset. Performance is only low when switching the map, otherwise it's great! see the documentation server of beamng.

I'm not the biggest fan of drifting, mainly because I suck at it in games where you're supposed to drift easily, like AC and the Dirt Rally titles on the dirt...

What am I hoping for?

Some racing focus that gives me a reason to boot it up more than I do...

VR is already available in BeamNG.drive. Check out its documentation.

who cares? any good driving/racing simulation you should be able to drift in, but drifting is like for the 1% sub culture that wants to make more noise than the rest of the community, [like vegans].

You should learn how to drift. It is very useful when your car oversteering and you know how to react properly.

Thank you for the replies, I realize that there is a way to have VR work in BeamNG.drive, so there is really no reason it is not implemented by the developers. When they do, I might be curious enough to try the Sim. If I was already into BeamNG, then, of course, I would try to go trough loops to make it work.

It is afaik. Not like the old ggl search results with VorpX or whatever. Just out of the gate, no mods. It's experimental, meaning it is not the final finished article. But works fine for me.

As other have said, VR is already implemented & is as easy to enable as just starting up the game with the VR headset being turned on & ready to go. The feature overall is in experimental state so some things may be borked but from what I've seen people say online, it's smooth sailing so far

There are no hoops, VR is built in.

From the thread in the link above, it seems to me we have a different definition of what “going trough hoops” means. To each his own, I would prefer a more streamlined offer, like AC, AMS2, etc...

On my meager 5600X / 1080Ti / Rift it works fine, only needed to do the re-center keybind and set the game to VR in the launcher. From then on it was just play, mostly having to use the mouse in menus is annoying.

But people seem to have had very different experiences (mostly with lower than 8gb vram, not taking into account the HMD) (when I followed the thread a bit on launch)

Haven't really played it in a while though.

I have almost the exact same "meager" set up. :) So I should be fine as well, good to know.
For the record, I believe the GTX 1080 TI still punch way above its weight.:D

More streamlined how? You load the game, toggle VR on if you want it.

I'm actually decent at that stage of it... I used to be an understeer favouring driver nowdays I'm more neutral to oversteer... But I just don't handle the idea of drifting or overdriving the cars well in the grippier titles... It goes against what I've honed for years in sim racing... Following the real life driver mentality of racing at 90-95% not 100%... And some of these titles their 100 feels like 120... So I'm rather slow in them... :roflmao:
