Gran Turismo 7 1.44 Update Adds Three Cars, New Events

The third notable update for Gran Turismo 7 in 2024 is here, adding the three expected vehicles. But we are only focused on one of them...

More cars, extra events and potential rewards are now here for Gran Turismo 7, thanks to the free 1.44 update.

Released today, 28th March 2024, there are notable inclusions, but really, it’s all about the Toyota Le Mans-competitor...


New Cars​

  • Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus '16 - Brand Central - [300,000 Cr]
  • Lamborghini Urus '18 - Brand Central - [300,000 Cr]
  • Toyota GT-One (TS020) '99 - Legend Cars - [2,500,000 Cr]
The Toyota GT-One (TS020) from 1999 is the undoubted highlight, the homologation bending (in ‘98) ‘sportscar’ that challenged for glory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans across two years.

It may not have won, but somehow this Japanese (and German, and Italian – created by Toyota Team Europe in collaboration with Dallara) prototype is more memorable than the BMW that won the race. Perhaps its the wacky looks, the uncompromising approach or so-close-yet-so-far story.

Either way, it is here in Gran Turismo 7’s exacting scanned glory. Oh, there’s also the second generation V10 Audi R8 and Lamborghini Urus SUV – if that’s your bag.

Jaguar Café Extra Menu​

There may not be a new Menu Book but instead an Extra Menu with a reward for owning three set cars. This time around, for those over collector level 41, the cars are all Jaaaaags.

Extra Menu No. 37 - 'Collection: Jaguar'​

Purchase or already own the following three cars:
  • Jaguar E-type Coupé '61
  • Jaguar XJ220 ‘92
  • Jaguar XJR-9 ‘88
Reward: Jaguar D-type '54

Three Additional Races​

Only a handful of new race events this time, as three new World Circuits challenges have been added:
  • European Clubman Cup 600 - Blue Moon Bay Speedway - Infield A Reverse
  • Schwarzwald League - High Speed Ring Reverse
  • World Touring Car 900 - 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit

Engine Swaps​

Engine Swaps are now available for the following cars (unlocked at Collector Level 50):
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR '95
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR '96
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V GSR '98
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR T.M. EDITION Special Color Package '99
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR GSR '06

As ever, some new scapes scenes have been added to take pretty pictures of cars with, this time Fukushima filled with cherry blossoms. Extra stickers, for a limited time only, within the livery editor has also been added to celebrate the launch of anime TV series Highspeed Étoile.

Main Features Implemented​

1. Cars
　- The following three new cars have been added:

1. World Circuits
　- The following two cars have been added to the race regulations of the 'Nissan GT-R Cup':

　　・Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R (KPGC110) '73

　- The 'Professionally Tuned' category has been added to the race regulations for the following event:
　　・Japanese Clubman Cup 550

　- Adjusted prize credits for the following race:
　　・European Clubman Cup 600 (Nürburgring Nordschleife)

2. Multiplayer
　- Fixed an issue in 'Split-Screen Race' wherein the race would end 1 minute after the first player crosses the finish line.

3. Showcase
　- Keyword search feature added to content search;
　- Implemented an 'Add to Favourites' button to the Decal details screen;
　- Comments on details page are now shown from most recent.

4. GT Auto
　- Implemented an 'Open Details' function to 'Load Style,' 'Driving Gear,' and 'Livery Editor';
　- Implemented a 'Select' and 'Add to Favourites' buttons to the Details screen in Livery Editor > Decals;
　- 'Preset Decals' now display decal names.

5. Localisation
　- Fixed various text localisation issues.

6. Others
　- Various other issues have been addressed.

Ooh, I can't remember which GT game it was but that Toyota GT-One was one of the best cars to own and race with, so a solid inclusion for GT7!

I really like all these free updates - something unthinkable in PC simracing really. Although GT7 still has a lot of problems, it really can have some incredible racing moments and challenges - so that and the updates all considered, I'll happily keep coming back to the title for more.

Well, it is only free to have in the game. If you want to use them, either have to grind or purchase in-game currency. So it punishes those not playing the game every hour of every day.

Yeah, the grind in this game is simply insane. And "racing" brain dead AI for hours and hours isn't my kind of fun.

I've simply completed all the cafe races, 2/3 of the licenses, most of the missions except 2/3 of endurance, and once a week or fortnight do the weekly challenges - so that's just normal and definitely not excessive play time, and I currently have over 6 million credits.

Aside from a handful of repeat races due to completing a small few weekly challenges, I've not had any need for any grinding.

Well, some of the cars are 25 million credits, so when you run out of new stuff to do you'll have to grind, unless of course you can do without the D-Type, Miura, Ford GTMkIV, the 917, the P4, the Daytona Cobra etc etc.
However if Polyphony were to have decent payouts for decent length races*, and decent payouts for custom races (dependent on difficulty and race length) we... well not me now cos I'm over it, we could build races we could enjoy and earn the credits to get the high priced classics without feeling drained.

*yeah, I'm back whinging about the 3-4 laps of Lemans before you run out of petrol, it should be ten times that many laps before a refuel and an endurance race should be what it says on the tin... 2/3/4/6 hours and then proper full 12 and 24 hours.

Yes I totally agree that the pricing and rewards system is and always has been a complete mess and joke. I was simply responding to a statement of supposdly needing to grind to buy the new updates' cars.

I personally hate the massively inconsistent (and aggressive) AI the most - any race can range from very easy to impossible, and the real gameplay where races are won and lost are in the car upgrades & setup menus. I hate that sometimes AI will be 100% impossible to beat due to a bug where they're faster than they should be given the tyres they're on and don't have to pit when they should have no tread left. I hate that you can retry a race several times and be no-where near winning then have another go and win relatively easily just because the AI allowed it. I hate that not only is the main AI seriously inconsistent but they throw in a secondary AI system in (Sophy) which requires you to drive so aggressively to beat that you make Verstappen look like a nice boy in comparison. I hate that the extremely quick weather changes can destroy a long race in just one lap (after you've just pitted) and when you go out of the race to prepare for that change it doesn't happen again. I hate how the AI can just punt you off track and you get the penalty, and that the penalty line is always at the most punishing place of the track, making the penalty not fit the crime. I hate how the AI brake-test you mid apex. I hate how some of the missions are practically impossible to get gold in without using ridiculous exploits. I hate being essentially locked out of a race because I'm waiting for the car I need to be on sale. I hate how the drifting physics change dependant on if you're using a wheel or controller. I hate how most cars have ridiculous oversteer the moment you apply the brakes even remotely hard if you're not in a completely straight line. I hate that it's the 8th game in the franchise yet they're actually going backward instead of forward with game design and function. There's loads more I hate about GT7 but you get my point.

In fact, I've never hated a racing game so much as GT7 and yet I still play it, but that's mainly because I'm seriously stubborn, and when I manage to defy the odds and beat races that absolutely demand perfection, those sessions and moments are some of the most rewarding & satisfying racing I've ever done.

I personally do not play GT7, my interests are somewhere else, but I am after the same goal as you, fun.

You're welcome, and thank you very much for your very kind comment.

I guess it's understandable to an extent why a presumably more serious simracing community would look down on GT7, but it's a shame because despite all it's flaws it can offer experiences unlike anything you'd get on a serious sim. Like most things in life, you have to dig down, sometimes very deeply, if you want to get to the treasure.

Yesterday I was hooked on Grid Legends, a supposed arcade racer of all things. I cranked the difficultly right up (as it's known to be far too easy otherwise) and I had 3 races / events which initially seemed impossible to win at, and I had to be on my absolute A-game in my driving, getting the absolute most out of the car, driving that little bit smoother and faster trying to knock off a tenth or two per lap with near-perfect consistency. It was infuriating most of the time, and in one challenge if you had a bad lap that was 1.5 seconds off your best then you'd already lost gold and had to restart, but I won all 3 challenges in the end and I the joy I then felt was in equal measure, if not more so, than the struggle.

Glad to hear you're having fun too, and long may that continue!
