Wreckfest Now Supports PC Crossplay

Those who have purchased Wreckfest on one of three PC stores can now race online together, a staggering two years after the feature was first discussed.

Those with Wreckfest on Steam, GOG or Epic Games Store can now race online together.

There are still plenty of people smashing into each other on Bugbear Entertainment’s crash-a-thon, but as the years go by and new content support has long ended, the cross-PC-platform support should help stave off empty races at least for a little while yet.

Incredibly, this feature was first mentioned in a development update in November 2022, that stated it was coming “not-so-distant future.” Back then, it also mentioned PC players on Xbox Game Pass, which seems to be omitted in the update, now that it has finally arrived.

A Steam news post by the development team also claims that:

“We're admittedly big fans of crashing here but cars and of course not servers, so we've also gone and given the engine under the hood a fresh change of online oil in an effort to further improve server stability and make sure the servers can handle all the heat while you embark on your wrecking rampage on all platforms.”

Consoles are omitted from this ‘crossplay’ update, although it is worth noting that the game has featured cross-generational play since the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions released in 2021.

So, PS4 can play with PS5, Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S – although PlayStation cannot play with Xbox, and neither can play with those on PC and vice versa. The Nintendo Switch and phone ports are standalone.

It felt as if support for Wreckfest had ended, with the community forum for the game closed, the Finnish team teasing future projects on social media and a proliferation of new job listings from art direction to lead engine programmer up for grabs.

Perhaps then, this is one final update before we find out what Bugbear is working on next. Let us know in the comments below what you think that might be, or on X: @OverTake_gg

Will have to see whether there will be more active / filled 'Lobbies' to choose from as over my side of the world when I want to wreck, everyone else is a sleep:roflmao: resulting in slim pickens'.

Sadley also having to choose a Lobby based on my 'Ping' which is usually around 215 - 245 for the European side of the world if I wake up really early to play with enough choice, makes for very interesting Game Play or I just get Booted.:p

Overall it's riotous fun to be had and this is permanently on my HD:D

This game has largely been left untouched in my library, only really bought due to my fondness of the Flatout franchise. I really wanted to get into Wreckfest but initial play found it be a very casual and a bit meh experience on controller, and I had steering rotation issues when I tried it on a wheel, so I never went back to it.

In all honesty, the new crossplay feature alone won't entice me back in for another look, but I haven't tried it with my recent PC build so I'll slap it on to see if maxing it out now in it's full glory makes for a better experience.

Each to their own, no harm if you don't enjoy it - it's not serious in the slightest, but online with friends, I find it an ideal chill-out laugh generator.

I finished the career mode with a keyboard like i did 20+ years ago with racing games , it was fun but after I never touched it, good game but in order to enjoy it you have to play with friends

Such a missed opportunity not adding VR to Wreckfest. That would bring me back. Not interested in all the 3rd party solutions.

This is the most fun cargame...in the world. And it is meant to be played online, wingman style so you won't miss the madness going on. And it looks GOOD
