Futuristic arcade racer Trackmania is known for its rapid time trial courses. To claim your spot near the top of the leaderboards, you need pin-point accuracy to conquer the outrageous tracks as fast as you can – that is the core of the Trackmania experience.

However, the free-to-play title by French developer Nadeo and publisher Ubisoft is teaming up with a real racing series now: The Trackmania Formula E Championship will make its debut in game, complete with a dedicated game mode and a €10,000 prize pool. Three events will see players compete at three Formula E tracks, those being Tokyo, Berlin and London. The races will take place on the same weekends as their real-life counterparts.

Trackmania Formula E Game Mode

In addition to the tracks and 10 official team liveries, a Formula E game mode is added to Trackmania. Players will race other cars, likely in a similar manner to the competitive events held in the game. Like in Formula E, energy management and the Attack Mode will play a role in the game mode.

To access the Trackmania Formula E mode, players need to join the Formula E in-game club, which is already hosting a testing track. A test race will be held on March 23 on 20:00 CET.

Taking part in the Formula E Championship means competing for your share of a €1,000 cash prize in each race, with the three best players in the global ranking bagging an additional €1,000 at the end of the series.

“Bring Our Fans Closer To The Action”

Representatives from both sides are looking forward to the cooperation. “This will be the most immersive competition for Trackmania players and Formula E fans“, states Ubisoft Nadeo Communications Director Adrienne Péchère. Formula E’s Strategy & Media Programme Director Sanjay Shivaram adds: “As ever, our aim is to bring our fans closer to the action, and through launching in Trackmania fans can experience our tracks and racing thrill first-hand.

After a 15-minute qualifying session, players get to battle it out in 30-minute races. Save for the first lap, players can trigger the 90-second Attack Mode at any time, but only twice per race. Even rain is a possibility, which will have an effect on handling, according to the official explanation.
