Expeditions: A MudRunner Game Releases 5th March 2024

What the SnowRunner development team did next… Expeditions is set to be Saber Interactive’s most ambitious off-road driving game yet.

Following the success of MudRunner and SnowRunner – over 12 million players for the latter – the development team took the bold decision to not create a direct sequel, but instead something slightly different.

To that extent, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game sees you driving, for the most part, smaller, modified, off-road vehicles. Instead of the transportation fetch-quest mission structure seen in the 2020 heavy-duty truck game, the elements are your greatest adversary as you try to complete scientific research.

To do so, your vehicles are equipped with gadgets such as drones and metal detectors, all of which can be upgraded back at the base alongside a team of experts – up to six personnel from a choice of 16. The off-road driving experience is about scouting the correct route and then taking it carefully to avoid getting stuck or falling off a ravine.

There will be four regions, each broken down into two main biomes around 4 km2 in size. Helping you get out of any trouble you can now inflate or deflate tyres at any time, and alongside a winch there’s a new anchor tool.

Post-Release DLC And Pre-Order Bonuses

It wouldn’t be a Saber Interactive-developed game without a suite of post-release premium downloadable content – after all, Snow Runner is currently in its 11th season of add-ons.

At launch, there are set to be over 80 expeditions – the creation team’s parlance for missions – and around 15 different vehicles.

There will be, at the very least, a ‘Year 1 Pass’ with new content spread out across the 12 months until March 2025. The cadence of when these drops land for players is not yet clear. This will be available separately, the price is yet to be confirmed, or as part of a ‘Year 1 Edition’.

I love Mudrunner and I really would like some new content for it.
- It recognizes my wheel and pedals.... (Snowrunner can't)
- The in-car camera works... And I can look around. (unlike Snowrunner)
- It gives a more comprehensive off-road experience when compared to BeamNG. Beam is great, but you can't, for instance, use a hook to pool yourself out of the mud, or use one car to rescue another from inside a river (as far as I know).

If they do something with the Mudrunner quality without the Snowrunner mistakes, I am all in.

They most definitely have a market, but I'm not part of it. Like someone said, beamNG checks all the boxes starting with realism.

It is not just physics.
Tell me what groundbreaking updates has Mud and Snow runners given us ?
Yeah right basically nothing just sell you DLC then dissappear and leave you with a janky sim.

So it will be boring. I mean, what makes Snowrunner so interesting is freight transportation through various conditions. If they remove this...then what? It's going to be like Dakar or something but without the racing part? You just drive around? Anyway, after Desert Rally, i don't trust Saber anymore.

The negative comments crack me up. "Not realistic enough" LMAO
It's got one thing sim racing games lack: gameplay. It's just fun, and I will probably buy it to have something fun to do whenever I get bored of the sim racers' arrogance.
Yes, BeamNG can be better regarding physics, but I enjoyed the challenges in the original Mudrunner. It is possibly a little bit expensive considering what it is, but then again, Starfield and Forza Motorsport were both double this price.

And no terrain deformation, that is big part of the fun.
Exactly. Constantly having to run through the same piece of track until it becomes so boggy it is impassable. You then have to seek alternate routes using different trucks as well as recovery. I actually used 4wd driving techniques to get through the bog.

Beamng has none of this as far as I can tell unless all people care about is rock crawling. If there is indeed this mud deformation and deteriorating track in BeamNG, please point it out as I'd love to try it.

I find these titles a nice change of pace and fully applaud the novel use of particle/deformation system for terrain - something other devs would do well to implement. I'm glad they've been rewarded with a solid user base and mods.

But lordy, sort out the UI and clear up the jank!

And how about a generic rally/dirt/offroad title geared to racing using a similar deformation/particle system supporting mods and deep customisation? Surely a long term winner.

It's perhaps worth noting that it's a different development team from Dakar, although under the Saber umbrella.

I agree, though, let's see if the mission structure is compelling compared to SnowRunner.

Yes, I think the deformation of the terrain is quite something, let's hope the other elements are more refined this time around

Here's hoping that's the case - I guess we'll find out in March

Played and replayed the original Mudrunner on PS4 to death, thought I'd love Snowrunner but I just didn't. I'm not sure why. Given the development teams split way back when it'll be interesting if the new company can regain the magic.

Hello, open to feedback here... Apologies, would you like to not hear about this title? Or maybe less news? Or only AC mods? Keen to hear some ideas.
You're doing just fine on content IMO. I use my mediocre intelligence to make a decision to skip over an article if the headline doesn't spark my interest.
