Most Played Racing Games On Steam In November 2023

Most-player-racing-games-on-steam-november-2023-wrc-7.jpg
With the final month of the year upon us, it is time to take a look at the most played racing games on Steam in November 2023. The list contains a very suprising entry.

Note: While iRacing is available on Steam as well, its numbers are not representative as most players acces the sim through its own UI. As a result, its statistics are not included in this article.

Ever since taking the top spot in September, BeamNG.drive has remained in pole position. The sandbox driving sim with softbody physics may have suffered a slight hit in average players, but still remains in front by a decisive margin.

The other two podium steps go to Forza Horizon 5 and Assetto Corsa, just like in October. Behind them, some shuffling has occurred, but nothing major has changed. F1 23 saw an increase in players as the season wound down in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi, setting a new all-time peak in the Process. Meanwhile, the Payback, Heat and Unbound entries into the Need For Speed series all increased their average player counts by at least 40 percent.

WRC 7 Steals The Rally Thunder

Meanwhile, EA Sports WRC debuted after its launch in early November. The rally title posted okay, but not overwhelming numbers for its first month, peaking at almost 4000 concurrent players. The rally thunder went to a very suprising title, though.

It was not a direct KT Racing-developed predecessor who took the spotlight, with WRC 9, WRC 10 and WRC Generations all slotting in below our cut-off of 250 average players. In fact, WRC 7 shot through the roof, posting a new all-time peak of 5032 concurrent players. The previous record was 1034 – an almost unbelievable increase. The average player count was not as high, though, with WRC 7 clocking in at 791.5. Its extremely low Sale price likely helped matters.

Other record peaks were set by Trackmania at 21864 concurrent players (1757.3 on average) and Automobilista 2, which went up to 1666 (average: 442.9) following the release of its latest update to v1.5.3.

nice to see the people to have fun with good games, like Forza Horzion 5.....rF2, iRacing, or Forza, all are just gaming, so have fun !

edit : why WRC 7 has +700 players, is it free on steam ?? there is far better, like WRC 9 or 10

It was €1,99 during the Autumn Sale, but even before that, it had decent numbers considering its age. We really need to give it a closer look sometime soon.

Just a suggestion to staff, cleanup this list from obvious children oriented arcade games to better suit target auditory of this site.
There is literally just like 5 or so titles anybody here really cares.

I play CP2077, it's gaming and has driving aspect too, but it's not on the list, neither GTA5. So what?
It's just not in the spirit of this very site which used to be sim racing specific until Overtake started diluting it with all those trash articles.

I understand you, but if we think too much like you, we are simucube 2 owners and the only game to use the potential is rF2....we can't talk only about the superiority about simucube 2 and rF2.....

Pre-Overtake, Wreckfest was getting front-page articles and community races back in its heyday (2018 through 2020?). I don't see anything drastically different in now seeing the occasional BeamNG article. Nor do I personally see anything wrong with an article once per week or per month about an arcade racing game or general racing game trends, but that's maybe that's just me

Or just look at this article as a little side note about how the "true" sim games are doing in public interest and sales relative to other vehicle games, and not as any attempt to push anything on you

You mean ACC. :)

BTW, guilty pleasure, had a lot of fun in Grid Legends yesterday. The game is really polished by now and has decent simcade FFB with tactile support. Intend at least finish the Story.

I paid something silly like $2.70 AUD for WRC7 during the recent steam sale, goes well on the steamdeck.

I can tolerate arcadey NFS games showing up on Race Dept, but Disney Speedstorm? GTFO, save that nonsense for Kotaku. You guys must be trolling just to keep the replies rolling in

oh my god, ACC of course :D, I still play Grid autosportfor the sprint DLC, I regret so much the point to point stages from Grid autosport not all in Grid Legends

There are lots of chinese posts in the Steam forums, so I guess the player count is so high because there was a giveaway in China or something.

While rFactor2's boom with the new online system has stopped, at least it has sustained numbers. This is a good thing IMO: people has found something of value and are keeping at it. Hoping that this continues.

AMS2's numbers had a boom thanks to the new update and people going back from beta (a separate game on Steam) to the public release. Let's see how this holds up.

Long ago, it's even been in a 0.92€ ($1) humble bundle tier where it got a user bump. Bought it by then, but tbh it was quite underwhelming, as the handling quality jump from later wrc 8 and up was considerable.

Still, no matter how meh the overall package is, there's something really rewarding when jumping fresh into a rally game where you don't know the stages yet, and just go blind with a much greater dependency on the co-driver.

One thing to remember is that context is key. Otherwise, we'd have a very short list of sims that rarely changes its order - to see how they stack up against some of the more mainstream titles, on the other hand, paints a more complete picture, just like @boomn mentioned.

The wider the horizon, the more moneyz come in. Who cares about roots.
