GTRevival Newsletter Confirms Lister Storm GT as Official Content

In its most recent newsletter, Straight4 Studios has confirmed that the Lister Storm is the first official car signed for GTRevival. Are more GT1 cars on the way?

As a company emerging from the wreckage of countless development teams before it, Straight4 Studios has great history behind it. Indeed, it is essentially the same team that gave us the Project CARS series and GTR.

It is this original title for the team that plays a major part in its new project. Today, we found out that that major part is not just thanks to its name. The most recent Straight4 Studios newsletter reveals that the Lister Storm GT will feature as official content in GTRevival. What does this mean for the game, set for release next year?

Lister Storm GT​

Towards the end of the 1990s, after Group C had very much disappeared and as LMP classes were tiring sports car fans, a new GT class emerged. GT1 brought forth a new age of sports car racing in which GT cars were at the forefront of people’s minds. With the class came a number of oddball vehicles.


The most obvious unique creations were the homologation specials like the Porsche 911 Strassenversion, but the Lister Storm was just as infamous. Whilst not baring the outright speed of prototype-esque GT1s, it went on to garner a successful life in the class’ twilight years.

Indeed, despite launching in the mid-1990s, its true years of success came in the FIA GT Championship of the early 2000s. Racing the likes of Saleen, Chrysler Viper and Ferrari, the V12 monster proved rapid. Thanks to low budgets and quirky design, it soon became a fan favourite. That public perception continued with the release of the GTR series focusing on this age of sports car racing.


A fantastic sounding car with unforgiveable handling characteristics, driving it was nothing if not thrilling. Those unlucky enough to miss this pair of releases in their day will get the chance to experience the car now however. Indeed, it is coming to GTRevival, Straight4 Studios’ newest project.

A New GT1 Sim?​

Throughout GTRevival‘s marketing campaign, the game has been all about the development team returning to its roots. With this latest announcement, it is clear to see what they mean – but will this trend continue further?

Indeed, the big question following this announcement is whether or not more GT1 cars are coming. In previous newsletters, fans noticed the cockpit of the Ferrari 550 GTS, so perhaps many fans’ prayers are being answered with GTRevival.

During our interview with Ian Bell a few weeks ago, he pointed out that every car in GTRevival will fit within a box. Whilst Project CARS was an open sandbox featuring anything and everything, this new game will not be. Instead, it will feature several cars of a similar class. Following this latest announcement, that class may well be GT1.

yummie, that was my go to car in any game that offered it, next up hopefully: any of the long-nosed Panoz, especially in its guise of "leader" from the dog awful Vaillant film

The way PC3 went would be surprised if this RSS rumour is true.

These cars in AC are a real handfull, as they should be. If you watch the old races the drivers really take it easy in the corners, compared to modern GTE/GT3 racing. No TC or ABS, buckets of power, without modern dampers, aero or brakes to lean on. The tyres struggle for grip on the first laps. Alot of practice and delicate inputs are required!

Interesting to see if they come out with physics resembling real life or not.
Making realistic physics function on modern sim racing's lidar track surfaces isn't easy. They could end up selling very little going the sim route.
I guess this will lean more towards arcade, so why would they get into bed with RSS when the visual end of this particular pack of cars isn't their best feature.

Maybe I just don't want RSS to be distracted from producing more good stuff for AC :)

Looks promising, I'll be onboard when they announce the Marcos, Venturi and the Lister GTL :). Can't wait for future updates, GTR2 is still one of the best Sims out there IMO.
 
Random cars, no real seasons. It's just another hotlap simulator. I hope it will be the mod-friendly base for a future official game.

Shame I’m not sure if my gaming laptop will be able to run this game…
In the worst case scenario, you can try Nvidia's GeForce Now, if there's no modding involved. I tried the free version several times when I had my PC broken and just my dad's Mini PC up and running. Unfortunately the queue is longer lately, but if you really need it, you can try the monthly subscription.
 
The hype train for this title is due for derailment and needs to slow down...

Lister Storm is a great addition... But this title is most likely going to be another Casual Motorsports title from Ian Bell...

All the while iRacing announce a massive addition that people on a lot of titles have asked for and instead we get Ian Bell's latest piece of marketing... I don't even have an active iRacing account and I care far more about that than I do something that isn't playable for a few years...

I don't think the RSS GT1 cars are any sort of benchmark physics wise. They are very uncommunicative and feel so stiff they might as well have no suspension, which makes them overly hard to drive, but that's my take on it. Other cars they make are better, but these GT1 cars never convinced me in that department.

You should perhaps read the Newsletter yourself, then you'd not waste your time making incorrect statements.
And he's right, stating that a xar will race with other cars from a similar class doesn't me1n anything. Pcars does exactly that. GT1s from 97 and 98 performs realmy differently than 2000s GT1s. And there wasn't any BOP in this category (just weight pznamties for the winners of the previous race). So being concerned about not having a full grid from a specific year is understandable especially when sope xars in pcars are too competitive against the other cars of the same category, mixing different years. The game could give the possibility to exclude a specific car from a race for sure but it would be an odd way to solve the issue. The other solution is what Simbin made with the GT1s in GTR Evolutiok and Raceroom a fictive GT1 category with a BOP. But is is fictive and doesn't reflect the real GT1 championships as they were.

Well, you just carry on in a negative world and fill in the blanks to fit that.

RSS GTs behave pretty similarly to GTR2's ones, so they must be a good rendition of these cars. The NGTs' base setups are quiet bad imo and need some tweakiing to get a better experience. What they lack is that kick in the rear under heavy acceleration but it is something from AC, not the cars themselves.

They had "shatter"? I don't know what it means. But indeed, now that I'm thinking about it, RSS GT cars need some tweaking to feel better, with more mechanical grip, closer to GTR2's cars. The same with the NGTs which spin easily while lifting. I was disappointed by this initial behaviour.

EDIT : I admit that GTR2's cars, are still my benchmark regarding these cars, except that the game does not run properly anymore (FFB issues) on my new system. AMS2's GT1s feel good since last update, with the rear kick (grip) on acceleration similar to GTR2, but these ones are the prototype type GT1s, with more downforce than the 2000s cars, so not a perfect benchmark. Raceroom GT1s may be a better reference.
