New content, new improvements: RENNSPORT has updated its closed beta and added a new car in the Praga R1, a new tongue-in-cheek track and various improvements, including the arrival of the first version of a damage model.

While it is not quite the addition of the Porsche 963 LMDh car and the Goodwood hillclimb that had been announced in July, the latest vehicle in the RENNSPORT garage is an interesting one nonetheless: The Praga R1 is the first non-GT3 car available in the closed beta, allowing sim racers to sample the title's physics in a different type of car. The pint-sized prototype is light, agile and features 365 hp according to Praga. It also relies on aerodynamics more than the existing GT3 machinery.
Something tells us that there have been sent out at least eight more keys since these memes started popping up... Image credit: RENNSPORT
The first version of a damage model makes its debut with this update as well. As there is no way to fix damage during a session yet, this should serve as even more of an incentive not to try overtaking manoeuvers with reckless abandon. On the 8eta circuit, the damage model is not enabled as of this update for obvious reasons.
To add to this, a system that calculates whether or not time has been gained by exceeding track limits has been put in place that allows various repercussions, which are going to be trialed over the next few weeks. To add to this, thanks to new movement correction algorithm, close multiplayer racing should be much less problematic, so unexpected netcode collisions should not derail races as much anymore.

GT3 Destruction Derby?
A surprising new circuit is also available in the closed beta now, as RENNSPORT shows some humor about them supposedly only sending out eight beta keys at the start of the closed beta phase, leading to the aptly-named 8eta course - a figure of 8 circuit surrounded by screens displaying memes referencing the key situation that basically begs for the inclusion of a Destruction Derby-type stock car. For now, the GT3 cars (and the new Praga) will have to do.Something tells us that there have been sent out at least eight more keys since these memes started popping up... Image credit: RENNSPORT

Don't Cut
Under the hood, an improved cut detection system has been implemented to discourage unrealistic racing lines being taken. This prevents racers from dipping two wheels onto the gravel, for example, to dramatically shorten the line through some corners. Simply put, the white lines on the edge of the track are now the track limit, so at least two tires need to be between them. Tarmac runoff areas allow two tires to be on the kerb, and a green astro turf area can be fully used, with cones or bollards now marking other critical areas. To add to this, a system that calculates whether or not time has been gained by exceeding track limits has been put in place that allows various repercussions, which are going to be trialed over the next few weeks.
