Nacon Secures MXGP License Until 2028

Bike racing is still underrepresented compared to four-wheeled competition in racing games and simulations, and even the FIM Motocross World Championship is no exception: Its most recent title is MXGP 2021, developed by Milestone - which will remain the final title by the Italian studio, as French publisher Nacon has secured the MXGP license from 2024 until 2028.

An official statement by Motocross World Championship promoter Infront Moto Racing states that Nacon and developer Kylotonn are already in the process of developing a new MXGP title for 2024, which is set to include the official riders and tracks of the series. Infront CEO David Luongo stated: "We cannot wait to see the first input and result of the development of the new game and I am sure that the realism will be breathtaking."

Nacon has a history with motorcycle-based titles, as it has published the most recent instalment of the TT Isle of Man series and RiMS Racing in cooperation with RaceWard Studio, and the first two TT Isle of Man games together with Kylotonn. "We have entrusted this new project to the KT Racing teams who have already proven themselves in motorcycle games", explains Nacon CEO Alain Falc.

No New Game Since 2021

The MXGP license had been with Milestone since 2014 and has yielded a yearly release until 2021 with the exception of 2015. The Italian studio did release further instalments of the Monster Energy Supercross series during this time, so it was still involved in motocross racing titles in addition to the MotoGP, SBK and Ride series.

Milestone's communication regarding the MXGP series has been scarce since the release of MXGP 2021 in November of that year. At the start of 2023, reports emerged that the studio had pulled the plug on the series, so a new game to close out the license seems unlikely.

MX Bikes by PiSoBo seems pretty well regarded, as an alternative
I love it. When it clicks its so satisfying. I love the stock track called "enduro". To go faster and faster with more and more powerful bikes is so entertaining. These bigger devs come nowhere near the feeling of riding dirtbikes. Piboso does. :)

Tbh Milestones MXGP games became a bit stagnant. Hadn't seen much evolution ever since MXGP 2019. Still, they did a fair job. Now that it's got Nacon slapped on it, it will probably be 10 steps backwards since they have nothing to build off except for maybe using their IOM framework as a base. We'll see how things go. Nacon is usually a big red flag.

What I want in a dirt bike game is....a terrain/track editor.

The diversity of tracks, the quality, and the creativeness from the Motocross Madness 2 community hasn't been matched in 20 years, even through the game engines have advanced massively.

I've had my eye on it for awhile. I want to get into it but those physics don't mess around. I tried MX Simulator years ago and I might as well have been a baby learning how to walk lol
