Automobilista 2: Wet Line Confirmed, v1.5 Available (Updated)

UPDATE: v1.5 is now officially available!

Reiza Studios has always been open with letting the community know what is going on in the development of Automobilista 2. With the v1.5 update imminent, lead developer Renato Simioni shared a deep dive into physics development - and also confirmed the addition of improved wet weather track surface behavior.

RaceDepartment had already speculated in May that wet lines might be added to Automobilista 2 soon - the physics deep dive confirmed this, among other racing surface changes. Not only is the rubbered-in racing line going to be much more slippery in the rain come v1.5, but the addition of Rallycross and dirt surfaces will also change track evolution - laying down dirt onto tarmac surfaces will affect grip, but the parameters for this are still being refined, so the effect might not be perfect yet.

Behind the Physics Scenes

Simioni also leans into the technical aspects of the physics and tire remodeling that mark a big step forward for v1.5. If you have ever wondered just how a studio transfers elements like suspension geometry, the chassis and body of a car, and tire deformation and interaction with the surface to a digital recreation of a racing car, this update is perfect for you.

Should the theoretical parts behind things like tire slip or the flex of a tire's carcass not be your cup of tea, the update still holds exciting news: For one, the second part of the June Dev Update - which was later renamed to July Dev Update - looks like it will be released after v1.5 has launched. Simioni mentioning the update being "just around the corner" turned into the update being available just hours later - for more info on the work that went into it, check out our recent in-depth interview with the Reiza founder!

You can find the full physics update in the Reiza forums. All cars that are already in AMS2 are going to profit from the v1.5 revisions to varying degrees. They will be joined by Rallycross cars and tracks, as well as the new Formula Dirt and Crosskart vehicles.

If I behaved in real life like our beloved trolls here, I'd have to go into a store I otherwise have nothing to do with and say their merchandise sucks. Just like that. Without reason. Without added value. I'm sure it won't be long before society gets to that point. :D

So, Many years ago I owned my own PC store, (and yes, I ran F1 Challenge on the display computers).

Anyhow, 2 or 3 times a week I'd get some absolute moron come in and talk absolute crap just to stir up some heat. The first few times I was speechless, Though I quickly developed the sense to identify and get rid of them. Some of them would do laps of the district during the week and just make trouble in multiple shops along their route.

And that was on a quiet street in a small town.

My condolences.
So it is really a thing to make known his unsolicited opinion. Perhaps a therapy would be a measure to get this urge under control.

ha :)

The guys you are talking about are all GamerMuscles cronies, they were all on his stream yesterday laying into AMS2.

In AMS2 i can't even leave the car and fly around to look at the track, i can in AC.... sounds crazy right, but i can spend 30mins making a camtool in AC or changing the shade of the trees......
There's a photo mode in AMS2, although the range of the drone camera is quite limited.

Jay Leno had a recurring segment on the Tonight Show titled "Dealing with the Public". It was always very funny and also a great insight into human stupidity.

Sadly the ai still is pretty awful, divebombing and sometimes crashing into each other even in training.

And i have stopped counting how many times i was punted off track from behind while ai tried to overtake me.

And lets not talk about how unimmersive the ai car movement looks from outside, probably because ai uses some weirdo cheap made up "physics".

Even the ancient AC is better when it comes to racing the ai.

Well and the driving...i guess it is...somewhat ok now? Cars still feel a bit weird, guess Reiza will never be able to fix thix. More like an early access simcade.

Smashing the brakes in a high speed corner? Giving weird steering inputs that should absolutely send you off track? Here the cars skid left and right a little bit aaaand that's it.

Imho basically every other sim feels more realistic that this.

Finally uninstalled :)

Thankyou for the update Reiza ,some great content available.I too am less positive about the ai.

I don't know which game you describe, but if you try AMS2, I'm sure you will like it... :D

Yeah,i tried V 1.5.
Probably the 1.6, 1.7, 1.8......will be the same thing.
AMS2 needs more refined physics.
I don't think Reiza will get it.
I think Reiza already got it with this update. I'm sure further improvements will be made, just like in every other sim, but finally they have something solid without the weird behaviours that made me unninstall previously.

For the time beeing I'm actually having more fun driving AMS2 than ACC. Part of it might be because I'm getting a bit bored with the lack of variety in ACC, but there's also a very dynamic feeling in AMS2 that makes it feel a bit more lively on my wheel than ACC.

And the AI has been great on the races I've done since 1.5 as well. Maybe I've been lucky or it's just the particular car/track combos I've driven, but I would describe AMS2 AI as being somewhat between Raceroom and ACC. Not as crazy agressive as Raceroom and not as boring and predictable as ACC. It's a nice middleground which I prefer. The only times I got bumped was because I wasn't giving them enough room on a corner.

Well, i think i tried it enough :)

I like that some of the cars still have audible clipping and distortions in their soundsamples. Three years after release.

But this game is entertaining, have to give it that.

Especially enjoyed how AMS2 fans told everyone that it has the best physics ever and people just had no clue.

Only for Reiza themselves saying that they have been comptelety wrong the whole time. Can't make that up.

Just like it happens for every other sim with continued development... recently ACC 1.9 showed the same effect.

Also, AMS2 fans have been a huge part of the continuous improvement of AMS2, thanks to their beta program and Reiza's attention to feedback.

The two cannot be compared. Reiza has stated they had two tire models running at the same time, and car models would randomnly flip between the two models. This is because AMS2 is built on older codes from PC2. They fixed that problem, finally, now they only have one tire model running. However, that tire model has issues with slip angles as there is too much lateral sliding, which seems accurate to 60s bias ply models, but not modern tires.

The game has great track models and modern graphics that are nice to see, but for most it will be pointless when the tire models are behind other sims. So, let's be honest and call this a fan supported work in progress. Not what I'm looking for at a premium price point. Hopefully they will get it all right eventually.

The game did not had 2 tires models, where did you get that info? The issue was a bug mixing values between the old ISI and new SETA models. Cars where not randomly flipping between them :roflmao:.

You complain that the tires have too much lateral sliding while some players are now saying that 1.5 went a bit too far the other direction and has now too little lateral sliding... Reiza can't please everyone.

My experience driving virtual cars on an office desk doesn't help me discern if the slip angles are perfect or not, so just as long as it feels somewhere on the ballpark of believability it doesn't prevent me from enjoying a sim. At least that's something that Reiza can now keep improving with more accurate parameters (if necessary) since the tire model is now working correctly.

I dont care much for people liking one sim more than the other, to each their own. But when someone has such a blatantly wrong opinion I just cant contain myself, and your opinion that AC AI is better than AMS2 is just about the worst opinion I have read in this comments section, and that's saying something...

So many alternate realities at play.

The Ai certainly works well in my experience, I'm regularly running race events in the game and having excellent interactions with the Ai. if there is a random element on the track causing grief its more likely to be me.

Didn't have the same experience with AC or ACC in regards to Ai, but still had hundreds of hours of enjoyment from them both.
