Automobilista 2: Wet Line Confirmed, v1.5 Available (Updated)

UPDATE: v1.5 is now officially available!

Reiza Studios has always been open with letting the community know what is going on in the development of Automobilista 2. With the v1.5 update imminent, lead developer Renato Simioni shared a deep dive into physics development - and also confirmed the addition of improved wet weather track surface behavior.

RaceDepartment had already speculated in May that wet lines might be added to Automobilista 2 soon - the physics deep dive confirmed this, among other racing surface changes. Not only is the rubbered-in racing line going to be much more slippery in the rain come v1.5, but the addition of Rallycross and dirt surfaces will also change track evolution - laying down dirt onto tarmac surfaces will affect grip, but the parameters for this are still being refined, so the effect might not be perfect yet.

Behind the Physics Scenes

Simioni also leans into the technical aspects of the physics and tire remodeling that mark a big step forward for v1.5. If you have ever wondered just how a studio transfers elements like suspension geometry, the chassis and body of a car, and tire deformation and interaction with the surface to a digital recreation of a racing car, this update is perfect for you.

Should the theoretical parts behind things like tire slip or the flex of a tire's carcass not be your cup of tea, the update still holds exciting news: For one, the second part of the June Dev Update - which was later renamed to July Dev Update - looks like it will be released after v1.5 has launched. Simioni mentioning the update being "just around the corner" turned into the update being available just hours later - for more info on the work that went into it, check out our recent in-depth interview with the Reiza founder!

You can find the full physics update in the Reiza forums. All cars that are already in AMS2 are going to profit from the v1.5 revisions to varying degrees. They will be joined by Rallycross cars and tracks, as well as the new Formula Dirt and Crosskart vehicles.

Or he just disagrees with you, someone on the other side of your argument could apply your words right back at you right?
No fan or hater of GM, don't really go in for all this picking sides and best sims etc, have them all play them all, prefer the one clearly that i have most hours on.
I never can understand why if 'you' like a sim so much, you have to make sure everyone else likes it as much....
Why care what GM says in a video? Same as why care if someone likes it in a video...just play it and see if YOU like it.
I'm not trying to convince other people to play AMS2. No need to because I only play single player. But he does needs his viewers though, and it is starting to show.

If GM wanted viewers he'd be more positive and less critical. Very few people want to hear that their yum is someone elses yuck.

  • Adjusted damage scalars for all settings for slightly overall less sensitive damage

Anyone had the chance to test this and see what it means? I'm hoping we can finally have a low damage setting where single seaters don't have terminal failure, such as losing multiple wheels in a crash.

Ah, the perils of racing online, where you want people to have accountability, but not be able to simply take someone else out of the race completely :)

But many people like gossip and wallow in it. And if GM needs clicks: that's a truly easy way to go. Being the Fox news of simracing.

Have a look at racecraft.online
I already have. And sadly it looks even more like a ghost town than the in-game servers list. There are currently one player (and eleven bots) in the daily race taking place as of this writing. In the weekly races list the current maximum sign-up number is five. And only four for the GT3 at Spa, a combo that tends to be popular.

It's a thesis of mine that those people who want to convince other people that their game is the better one, because somehow they think when everybody is playing their game that the multiplayer numbers will skyrocket and they will get their sessions whenever they wanna play and their whole experience will be much better than now. It's the same with almost every other game genre that you have people who try to convince other people that their game is the better one. The sad fact of this thinking is that they will never understand when the player numbers go up, the percentage of idiots you will meet on the servers will also increase. Mostly it's people who play only on public lobbies and somehow think that with more players online, their multiplayer experience will be better. When infact it will get worse, because you get a bunch of people who will crash you in turn one and leave the server to join another race. And on a typical 30 car race maybe 10-12 people will finish online and the rest will meet on the next server with the next race ahead in a couple of minutes to repeat the whole process. If someone raced Race07 publicly online, they will get my drift.
My personal experience playing a lot of different genres online i met a lot of people who bought the game, inserted their name and went on to a server to ask the next hour online what's the config and how the game works. When almost every game has a tutorial where you learn all the basics. It's pathetic, in the real world people would venture into the water and ask for swimming lessons while they are drowning.

I just stated a couple of posts before your lengthy thesis that I don't care about other people playing the same games as me because I PLAY SINGLE PLAYER ONLY .

I don't know why AMS2 seems to get so much trolling and useless opinions. If you don't like the sim, fine, keep playing what you like.
I really don't see the need to just spout nonsense and making a fool of yourself.

Regarding the update, the new wet lines are still WIP, so there is not much difference in grip levels yet. Most cars do feel better than before and the ones that felt off and bad, now are very very good. Looking forward now for more AI updates and improvements.

My reply went to kamov and his questions why people do argue about it. I play mostly singleplayer myself and i usually play the games i like. I just discuss with people which features i do like more in sims and that's why i play certain sims and not others. It's mostly the multiplayer community who complains the most about the game. At least in my observations in different genres.

I saw a bit of it and it looked like he'd just got weary about sim racing in general and for me it resonated somewhat.
He did make some strong points about people getting 1k 2k wheels and pedals and they use them on sims that don't have the FFB to warrant it.
Each to there own of course.

I guess it comes down to a simple fact, had GM been raving about AMS2 for 7 odd hours on a live stream this thread would of been saying how relevant he is and how great his understanding of car physics is because he once drove some race car in real life.
Then possibly on another thread about another sim game people were saying how he's not relevant etc etc etc.... because he wasn't screaming at how great 'their' sim was...... you can't please all the people all of the time.

He is quite entitled to an opinion of which ever outcome it is, good or bad or in different to your opinions....

Lets not bring cancel culture to sim racing, its bad enough as it is with some of the toxicity......
Having said all of that the guy sits there with people throwing money at him and he gets very yelpy and tried to hard to be funny and he does put himself on a high horse and enjoy the sound of his own voice, although its not really his voice as he seems to try to impersonate Richard Hamond if Richard Hamond was even more of a pastiche of himself than he already was.....
Like i said, no fan of GM not a fan of any youtuber. Just respect their right to an opinion.

To keep OT, i tried the update late last night and was heartily impressed.

After spending several hours with the new update, I must admit that while it introduces some changes, I can't confidently say it's an improvement. The experience still feels off, albeit in a slightly different manner.

I was particularly excited about the rally cross, but I find that Dirt 2.0 surpasses it in terms of enjoyment. Regardless of the combinations I attempt, there's always another simulator that seems to offer a more satisfying experience. As a result, AMS2 will now end up remaining dormant in my Steam library until update 1.6.

It's difficult for me to believe that the developers behind AMS1 are content with the current state of AMS2.

It gets busier in the evenings the weekly last night had 20 people and that’s not uncommon . I’ve quite often been in grids of 10-12 ( it maxes out at 12 per split as any more and the dedicated server falls over ). But during the day ofc it is quiet .

I've stopped a long time ago watching these youtubers. What I dislike is the fact that they seem to present themselves as the ultimate judge of a sim's quality, especially the physics. I always ask myself the same question: what is their background? Are they real-life racers? Race engineers (or engineers, period)? Designers? It seems to me like the majority of them are simply people who spend a lot of time simracing.

These days, I'm more than happy to rely on my own opinion, and only that. If I like a sim, I don't care what anybody else on YouTube says. I tried the update yesterday on several of my favorite cars. I saw an improvement on some of them, while others seemed pretty much the same as they were before. But I think I need to spend more time with the sim to really notice the difference. AMS2 has been my go-to sim for the last year or so and I'm sure it will remain so for the foreseeable future.
