A lot has happened in the Formula One world since the last race at Silverstone. But it's time to look ahead at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Here are all the stories to look out for.

With the Hungarian Grand Prix, Formula One in 2023 reaches the halfway point in its season. And with Red Bull still looking as the firm favourites, it is looking more and more likely that Max Verstappen will claim the Constructor's Championship let alone the Driver's title. But before we discuss affairs post-Abu Dhabi, there are still over a dozen races to complete. That list starts at Hungary with Round 11 of the season.

During its more-than thirty years on the calendar, the Hungaroring has often provided some intense moments in Formula One history. Several shock winners, meme-worthy race starts and and titanic battles have all taken place at the circuit. Chances are therefore that this weekend's running at the track will be no different.

For once this year however, it won't be the weather causing the havoc. In fact, the forecast for the next few days indicates bright sunny skies throughout the weekend, unlike seemingly every race since we left the Middle East. Instead, fans will have to hope that the technical nature of this 'street circuit without walls' as many call it will provide action.

Ricciardo returns

That being said, there is one driver on the paddock that could make for a brilliant race all by himself. Following a torrid first ten races, Nyck De Vries has been controversially booted from his seat at Alpha Tauri. In his place at the Red Bull Junior team comes the not-so junior Daniel Ricciardo making his F1 comeback.

The smiling Aussie has managed to convince Helmut Marko that he is worthy of a second chance in the sport and will be hoping to show what he can do this weekend. In fact, with such a sudden switch in drivers, Ricciardo will need a good result here in Hungary if he wants to hit the ground running. Poor results are no longer an option for the Australian who is on his last strike.

Luckily for him though, he joins the team that has been languishing at the back of the field at a track he has past success. In his first year with Red Bull Racing, Daniel claimed his second ever win in an enthralling race at Hungary. With many other memorable runs for the Australian in Budapest, he will be hoping to carry some confidence into his first race with the ex-Toro Rosso outfit since 2013.

Red Bull's upgrades

Whilst Daniel struggles with a back marker Alpha Tauri this weekend, the organisation's main team will be testing a set of upgrades set to push them further ahead of the field. Revealed this morning, the RB19's sidepod opening is now no larger than that of a letter box making for a sleek look and surely even more attractive wind tunnel results.

According to German outlet Auto Motor und Sport, Red Bull is expecting a 0.2 second jump on the rest of the field with its upgrades. If Verstappen wasn't having an easy time of things before this weekend. He certainly will now.

Good news for the Red Bull Racing team as a whole, the upgrades will place added pressure on Sergio Perez. The Mexican has failed to get into Q3 for the past five events and is rapidly losing touch to his teammate Verstappen in the championship. If Checo still struggles to get into the top-ten on the grid this weekend despite major upgrades, paddock rumours may soon become reality. We have now seen that Dr Helmut Marko is not afraid to make mid-season changes to his line-ups. So anything is possible when it comes to the second RBR seat.

How to watch the Hungarian GP

It is clear that the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix could spell disaster for a number of drivers' careers. So it will be important to keep a watchful eye up and down the grid as said competitors fight for their seats.

With that in mind, here are the times you should be tuning in to F1 TV or your local F1 broadcasting channel for all the sessions.

Friday

Free Practice 1: 13:30 - 14:30 CET
Free Practice 2: 17:00 - 18:00 CET

Saturday

Free Practice 3: 12:30 - 13:30 CET
Qualifying: 16:00 - 17:00 CET

Sunday

What I wonder is if Perez is going to be fired before Spa or Before Zandvoort. It took him 4 minutes on the dry in FP1 to crash the car costing the team a lot of money, and putting the new floor on display for half a dozen photographers. Then after the crash he didn't even tried to restart the engine and limp the car to the pits like Max did in 2019.

The guy is clearly done with F1 and he knows it, he seems to no longer give a f**k. And you could tell that Horner appeared even as livid or more as when Max crashed on FP3 at Monaco in 2018. I fear no man, but that look that Horner had in his eyes after Perez's crash, that scares me...

His ego and inconsistency got him fired from McLaren, and now it is almost carved on stone that he is going to be fired from Red Bull. Smart people learn from their past mistakes and improve themselves, pridefull people keep making the same mistakes over and over and therefore they stagnate.

Nah, not this season. Max is dragging both championships across the line, so no direct danger. For next year though, with other teams potentially catching up.....
And Nyck getting dropped gives them an opportunity to test Yuki & Daniel. Liam is left to potentially win his current championship. And they'll just watch if Checo rises or falls even further.

So it all depends on how everybody except Max performs in the RB family.

On a side note, Yuki might be more of a Honda than a RB guy, so maybe they'll just keep him in the 2nd team until he can be sold to AM Honda to replace... (we can hope xD)

Next year's options:

RB:
- Max & Checo
- Max & Daniel
- Max & Yuki (imo least likely)

(formerly) AT:
- Yuki & Liam
- Yuki & Daniel
- Yuki & Checo
- Daniel & Liam
- Daniel & Checo
- some combination with Iwasa (imo least likely)

unless they find a way to clone Max

Mmh are the red bulls really struggling?.. by the way a lot of cars so close to each other, the competitiveness in this year's f1 is incredible.

Nico putting the HAAS up the order in FP3 is becoming a regular occurrence, I hope they can get the the race pace moving soon, it could do marvels for KMag and the rest of the team too, one lap pace is great but races last more than one lap... unless you're unlucky!

Holy mother, that was a phenomenal qualy ending. Of course Max made a mistake in the last sector and should easily win tomorrow, but was nice to see today.

qualifying has been close for two years now. and is not like the mercedes dominant years! Only the Hamilton fans want to believe that. Let's watch the race Verstappen vs Hamilton I,m ready  also good the mc laren ( Norris) good job!!

RBR has had an upper hand on race trim all season, although it mellowed since the new tyres were introduced at Silverstone. I still believe Max will win this, but if he exits T1 behind Lewis and Lando, boy oh boy we will have a RACE.

My prediction. Hamilton will be so geeked to finally have a chance to win a race again, he will act like Verstappen in the first corner. Verstappen will be so geeked to prove he is still in the fastest car and Merc has not caught up, he will act like Verstappen in the first corner.
Hamilton and Verstappen kill each other.
Mclaren gets 2 podium spots.

And the world will be a better place.

Afraid something goofy is about to happen early in the race tomorrow.
Anyway, I'm hoping to see Norris win this to boost confidence. With the right car, this top young driver can challenge for a DC in the near future.

I'm not sure I wanna see him win in a 'not the best' car, look what happened to Danny after Monza.
Seriously though I think that the front of the grid is being slowly stirred by the FIA to ensure that the run of one team is relatively short, and in the later part of the season we'll have two or three different winners, hopefully Lando will be one of them, but I can't see anyone kicking Max off the throne this year.
