F1 23: Higher Launch Prices, Pre-Order Discounts

Formula One fans have to wait just a bit over a month to get their hands on the new official game, as F1 23 is set to launch on June 16th. If you want to enjoy the new, up-to-date game, you will have to use more budget than in 2022 - prices have increased in comparison to F1 22.

Pre-orders for F1 23 are already available, and they come with certain bonuses in some cases: Players who pull the trigger on Steam already will get a 10% discount on the Champions Edition, subscribers to EA Play save the same when pre-ordering the Standard and Champions Edition in the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store, respectively.

With the discounts applied, the prices are in the same range as in 2022, but without them, it becomes clear that the prices have been raised by 10€ for the European editions. The US versions feature the same pricing in Dollar instead, as do the UK versions.

F1 23 - Prices

Steam
Standard Edition: €69.99/£59.99/$69.99
Champions Edition: €89.99/£79.99/$89.99 (10% pre-order discount)

Microsoft Store
Standard Edition: €79.99/£69.99/$69.99 (10& discount with EA Play)
Champions Edition: €99.99/£89.99/$89.99 (10% discount with EA Play)

PlayStation Store
Standard Edition: €79.99/£69.99/$69.99 (10% discount with EA Play)
Champions Edition: €99.99/£89.99/$89.99 (10% discount with EA Play)

F1 22 was the first title of the series since EA Sports took over Codemasters in 2021 that clearly bore the handwriting of the publisher, and F1 23 is set to continue this trend. Features that have been announced are the return of the Braking Point story mode, an all-new F1 World hub, the addition of Red Flags and a revised handling model that should improve the experience especially for gamepad racers.

Whether or not the new features and improvements compared to F1 22 warrant the rise in price remains to be seen. With the release just over a month away, the first opinions prior to the game's launch should be available soon.

People nearly need to be careful hear, as this may be the necessary prenuptial agreement to start upping the pricing across the board.
£69.99 is crazy

$89 for this game that doesn't even properly support PC features. They are just milking the same fools every year with just a few skin change a few driver name updates. Sad...

AMS2's choice of F1 cars and tracks is so much larger and better while being much more simulation focused FFB/physics at a much better price...
Any idea what the full licensing costs? I expect around a 100 million dollars.
For the cars, for the circuits, for the drivers. They all want a bigger share than the year before.

I wait till the discount season. I expect many bugs to be ironed out.

Interesting numbers (my only interest speaking this title :p).

Especially that Steam provides more 'lucrative' discounts speaking final discount price than EA Play itself.

Why, EA?

And speaking the other thread (of which rapidly was closed down for further comments due to property rights related stuff as I reckon?) about EA stopping Steam sale of F1 21, my immediate thoughts was that EA ofcourse planned to sell the title through their own EA Play/Origin platform.
But haven't investigated further into this.
If the reason on the contrary is that the publisher has closed down F1 21 sale on all platforms due to fear of competition to newest title from own (better?) older title it is a very wrong and sad, sad direction to go, and hopefully not a general tendency (have some self confidense, will you, EA?).

I look at it this way. If a piece of software advertises itself as performing a certain function, I expect that for whatever price it is asking, the software perform that function. If there are certain features that don't perform as expected or advertised, the company should correct the issues for at least 2-3 years, at no cost, to the consumer. As the market for the software evolves, the vendor should offer upgrades to existing customers at a discounted price. New customers would bear the brunt of ongoing development.

Obviously my drug addiction has progressed to the point of hallucinations. :whistling:

It's not Christmas, but it's always season for this song:

"Just one more preorder, the publisher said
Then we will unlock a cool hat for your head
You'll save 10 percent if you order today
The game is not out yet but we ask you to pay

The previews are glowing, so make no mistake
this game is amazing though the screenshots are fake
But check out this gameplay it's a vertical slice
so before you have played it, please put down full price

We love all the fanboys so we ask you to pay,
for our unfinished product that we'll patch the 1st day
It's still bloody broken 6 months down the line
But you got a free skinpack so it all turned out fine.

I trusted the trailer, oh why would they lie?
They gave an xp boost so I just had to buy
This game is atrocious, it should have been free
But I just cannot wait to buy the dlc."

Still missing the rants and WTF is' from TotalBiscuit.

Guys for the love of god, you need to stop comparing F1 series with simulators, you're comparing apples to bananas!

I've spent plus 100 hours on F1 22 and aside the physics, it offers a great single-player experience, with R&D, the practice programmes that you need to do, the challenge to raise a team like williams to the top, managing wear on the power train, rivalries, and the most important one, the atmosphere of an F1 event that you experience is great, and so on!

Sometimes as I said on another post that was talking about Rennsport, sometimes Sims are boring as hell. Choose a F1 car that is fictional, choose between some tracks like Spa, Monza or Silverstone, select practice, and do some laps, or yes, you can race the AI, but what comes after the race? Nothing. You can't even simulate qualifying or tyre rules.

You guys need to understand what a game is supposed to offer in therms of fun and experience, and F1 series DONT want to offer simulation in therms of physics, simple as that, so stop comparing games with simulators.

And stop thinking that racing games needs to be simulators all the time, theres an entire world of differente experiences you can have outside the simracing bubble.

If it has that garbage ass Anti Cheat that FIFA had I won't even buy it on sale.

It's been a while since an F1 game called my attention..., and this one is no exception to this rule. I will keep saving my money without this... "experience".

At $39,99 you will have more fun, more choice of content with AMS2... not even close.
Yup most underrated title ever.

good examples

$100 AUD Standard / $120 AUD Suckers Edition ($108 "Loyalty Pre Order Price")
Or
$85 AUD (2020) / $102 (2020) Source

Still not great. I mean, there's nothing really screaming out to say I really need to run out and get the new version. I play career mode so accurate up to the minute rosters aren't that big a deal. I could be wrong but I think F1 22 is on Game Pass anyway for those who want to try out some authentic over realistic F1 without spending a whole fun ticket on it.

*EDIT* Just to continue my little rant, I used to buy FIFA every year... but not in the last decade. Heckin EA. I can see this going the same way.

Look. Don't preorder games. Preorder were meant to preorder at a physical shop which had limited copies going in at/during releasedate. If anything like preorders, dlc, mtx, gacho, etc ruined gaming. Quality is already dwindling. (See AAA-releases of this year on steam) Alright Codies has been bought by EA, so you guys have to resist even more. We can do this! Together we can save normie gaming, thus also Simracing to a degree. Simracing also taking hits here and there due its becoming more and more mainstream. Hardwarewise we are into a new era, but it can go quickly bad as well...
