Gran Turismo 7 monthly update released

Another month, another GT7 update. The teasing for it came extremely late this time, which is probably the biggest surprise about this update.

Version 1.32 brings us three and a half cars, starting with the expected new 2023 Super Formula cars, which just differ by their engine manufacturer. The new spec open wheelers bring in aerodynamic evolutions plus new more eco friendly tyres and fuel.

Next up is the latest evolution of the Mercedes AMG GT3 race car, which should be a very welcome addition in a roster of mostly outdated GT3 cars. Its substantially increased aero surfaces make it stand out from its predecessor, both visually and in terms of performance.

Finally, people who are more into road cars will be happy to know they can now get their hands on another 90s classic supercar: the Jaguar XJ220. Although it was a commercial failure at the time, since the production car swapped the original V12, 4 wheel drive concept of the prototype in favor of a turbocharged V6 and rear wheel drive layout, it still pulled very impressive performance figures at the time, and its timeless design still make it a very sought after car. Aftermarket body parts will allow you to transform it into the TWR version as well.

An interesting thing to notice in this update is the update of Fuji Speedway: although the changes are only environmental and won't impact your driving, it is nice to see the track feature the new buildings which recently raised around the track. Although this was probably prompted by the Gran Turismo x Super Formula partnership, this could be the first in a series of track updates.

A new lobby feature allows the host to set an automatic timer to have races start automatically at regular intervals, which will technically allow people to set their own "daily races" in a similar fashion to sport mode.

On the physics side, rain tyres seem to have been tweaked, with intermediates being more effective in heavy rain and full wets only really getting an advantage when standing water and puddles make their way on the track.

Finally, this update launches a special time trial event that act as the qualifier for the Olympic Esports Series. In 10 days, the best time from the 10 best countries will earn a trip to Singapore for the final, where they will race 10 other people hand picked by national motorsport federations from otherwise non elegible countries. The official page for this event can be found here.

Not owning it, I am unable to judge the quality of the multiplayer in this game, any feedback?

I also don't have Forza Horizon 5, whose multiplayer also looks fun, if you have any positive or negative feedback on one or/and the other?

Finally, a small point for Forza, no difficulty to find players on the PC version? if we take for example a wrestling game on PC we can wait tens of minutes before finding a player and so we prefer to use the offline mode.

There's still a lot of work to make lobbies truly enjoyable. Many features we had in previous games still missing, but they're working on it, as past few updates showed. Not fast enough to my taste, but at least it's not abandoned. Lobby stability went from awful, to acceptable, to really not great in the previous update. Haven't had the opportunity to gather enough people this morning to check that properly for this one, so I'll check tonight. Finding players is usually not a problem, it's more about finding a lobby doing what you'd like, or managing to get people into yours if you're not doing the "mainstream" combos.

Finding a community you fit in still makes things better, that's how I get the most fun out of it. Otherwise there's sport mode but it can be repetitive depending how you approach it. If you want to dive into GT7, I recommend getting a PS5 for it though, they've started not rolling out some of the new features on the PS4 version and the loading times on the older console are horrible.

Regarding FH5, I think you just need to give it a try and see if the way the game drives is good enough for you to enjoy. Not my cup of tea, might be yours though. Not sure about the current playerbase for this game, although I don't think it matches its ambitions.

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
