Ride 5 Releasing 24 August - First New-Gen only Bike Racer

The fifth iteration of the popular Ride franchise is to release on 24 August this year. The next bike racer by Milestone will only sell on new gen consoles and PC and brings many improvements over the previous title.

Often described as the Gran Turismo of the biking world, the Ride franchise has become one of the most popular two-wheel racers in gaming. Combining a bike ownership aspect with intense racing on great tracks and a progressive career mode, it certainly sits at the top of the bike racing genre.

Since 2015, the series has already seen four iterations release and a fifth is now on its way. It was announced today by PLAION that Ride 5 will release to new gen consoles on 24 August. That's PS5, Xbox Series S/X and PC. The focus on new technology as its basis rather than clinging to the previous generation means the game can fully exploit the capabilities of the new consoles. Here's all you need to know about the new game.

More realism​

The aforementioned drop of the previous generation of consoles - PS4 and Xbox One - means Milestone can push the technological boundaries with Ride 5. Expect this game to look great and for its physics to run at a higher rate.


The biggest change the developers are keen to point out however is the weather system. Much like MotoGP 23, Ride 5 will feature dynamic weather. Both the overall weather and the temperature will constantly evolve throughout sessions making for a more realistic experience. This will tie in with the new sky box which will now be made up of 3D volumetric clouds, rather than the traditional 2D images. Clouds will change shape and move across the sky.

Game modes in Ride 5​

Ride 5 will feature several game modes to choose from, the most prominent of which will surely be the career. Dubbed "Take what’s yours," it seemingly takes the player through a Grid-style story mode. In said story, you go through various events with the help of a narrator introducing events and results.

Four so-called "racing bundles" will put the rider through a selection of challenges and place them on a leader board. To reach the top, you'll have to beat one of 10 unique and identifiable rivals. In total, more than 200 events will keep you busy in your Ride career.

The game will also include various multiplayer modes. Newly added is a split-screen competition which was supposedly highly requested. Obviously, Ride 5 will also have a variety of online competition modes from races to leader boards. These will operate on a cross-platform style in which PS and Xbox players can race each other whilst PC players on Steam and Epic can also go head-to-head.

Quick races and more importantly endurance races will get a set of new features. Those that enjoy running longer events will now be able to save mid-race and come back to their battles later on. A rewind feature will also allow players to correct their mistakes instead of restarting.

Customise the game​

Much like Forza Horizon, Ride 5 players will get to create their own events in-game. Not only can they choose the various bike and track combinations, the game also allows scoring and rulesets to be customised.

Bikes, decals, race suits and helmets will also feature plenty of personalisation thanks to the many livery editors. Games such as the MotoGP franchise have now become accustom to this level of freedom, so it only makes sense for Ride to also show some creative flair. These creations can then be shared online, between platforms.

Milestone is also the team behind the recently released sixth Monster Energy Supercross game and upcoming MotoGP title. The Italian studio is certainly busy, but we hope this next version of the Ride formula matches the level of previous iterations. It releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Epic on 24 August.

I have my doubts after that what ive see and hear.... dont know but especially in the motobike games i have an extreme focus on engine sound and in this trailer do not satisfy my ears.
The music dumbs down the gamesound so maybe its too early to judge.

For sure it will be no release day buy for me.
Bought Ride4 few weeks ago on a sale (approx 10 Euro) and its ok.
So i dont need to rush for Ride 5
 
Am I only one here that thinks the tracks need a lot more work visually ? Otherwise, it looks very good. Honestly they have no competitor in this space so they can get away with anything really.
 
No, you are not the only one.
The "bridge-track" (0:40 in the trailer) looks awful and sterile....
Is it UE4??

Generally i miss A-B-Tracks or street-like events.
This seem to transform into a track racing game and there are lot of them...so nothing special.
 
I've bought and closely followed each Ride game, here's how they fail:

Great physics on release, atrocious AI. All the AI are crashing, lap after lap...we better fix this! Destroy the physics!!! Now we have 1+1 sophistication, but the AI can now wobble around the track!
But the physics you ask? Shhhh, it's a biking game, we don't worry about that! Look at the decals you get!
Weather! Bung weather in it!
But physics? Please?

How would you rate the current (seems to be final) state of Ride 4? Worth getting even if Ride 5 has been announced?

i f you have never playedwith Ride, just wait for Ride 5 it will be better than 4

If you are broke, buy ride 4 with a big discount

Ride 4 has a mountain of content. It probably has the largest racing career mode since Gran Turismo 4. I wish the AI had more variation, as the difficulty slider is much like Assetto Corsa's in that all it changes is limiting acceleration on straights. They often nail corners ideally most of the time, so if you struggle with a track full of turns, you will clearly not beat them even on "Very Easy." I hope 5 does more with this, because it seems for a lot of players, the start of the game was nightmarishly hard because a lot of the starting tracks (especially in the American League) expose this situation with the AI.

Ride 4 is definitely worth getting, as you didnt experience the 'good' physics, you also wont experience the disappointment.
The AI is what it is.
I played for around 700 hours, so there IS enjoyment to be had.
My position is one of a missed opportunity, unecessarily so.

Lots of bikers around me so I would like to get into knowing a bit more about bikes. If it's connected to a decent video game, even better. Though, thinking about it, I wouldn't get 5 near the release anyway at full-ish price. I think I am gonna get 4 for now.

I am afraid of that AI but I think I could manage it. If I could do that one race pretty easily in Mafia Definitive Edition that everybody in the Steam reviews was cursing, I guess I must not be that bad :D
 
The problem I'm with the AI is that it's predictable. You can learn their moves, predict exactly what they are going to do.
There was a great thread some people were in, 1st person challenges. Hopefully that happens again.

So like... in sim racing...

At least they are not like in GT7 where they are spread out, slow, then the closer you get to the leader, they speed up.
 
HELL YEAH the news I've been waiting for! But for the love of God Milestone PLEASE PLEASE do not use the motogp or SBK physics or handling model!
This is exactly what they'll do. Milestone Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v. I'd actually prefer it if there was another Drive Club Bikes type game. Something with real bikes but nice and arcadey.

I hope they'll use the Ride4 physics, with improvements of course, and not the SBK and MotoGP crap. But i think this time we also get soft tires and more realistic suspension travel.
I hope we will get better AI, although Milestone has proven that they can't do it.
I hope we get some basic quality control , although i have my doubts, again, because Milestone fails in that as well. We will see again bikes with wrong tires, exhausts etc
I hope this time around, career forces us to use street tires and not to be able to jump straight on racing slicks.

I know, it's way too much to hope. It's Milestone after all....

It has quality control issues that will never be fixed.
For example the CBR 300 has the front tire mounted on the rear wheel.
Some Ducati's have a broken front tire model. Some other bikes have a rear tire that's either too big or too small.
Wrong exhausts. Mistakes in some models. Wrong size brake disks etc. I could go on.
Physics are kinda bad as well. It's not "real" physics. It's probably oldschool scripted physics. Like in the old Milestone games.
Suspensions don't really seem to work. Their travel isn't even close to their real specs and changing setup doesn't really do anything. There's no tire simulation and that's why tires mounted in the wrong rims have no impact in the game.

Now should you get it or not? It depends.
Ride 4 was very different from Ride 3 and Ride 3 was different from Ride 2.
In Ride 3 we even had custom bikes, although the customization options were limited. They were gone in Ride 4.
In Ride 4 we got a lot more track racing and more racing bikes. It felt much more like a Superbike+Endurance racing game compared to Ride 3 wich was more like a street riding game.
Ride 2 had even more street content which was removed from Ride 3.
 
I just hope existing bikes won't get cut away in the new game, they cut so many cool ones from Ride 3 when Ride 4 came out, and Honda CB1100 EX was one of them.

That's always on licensing, so that could be outside of the developers hands. For example, a number of series that had Silverstone as a track (Grid, Gran Turismo) do not have them in their most recent editions despite previous entries having them. I imagine it's a nightmare to get vehicles. From what we've seen of DLC promised for the game at least, they're also all-new bikes so I hope they're not going to gut and resell content we got in the base package previously.
