Forza Motorsport 2023 Details: 500 Cars, 20 Locations


Today's Forza Monthly gave the info sim racing fans have been hoping for for months. Finally, here are some more updates on the new Forza Motorsport.

Forza Motorsport creative director Chris Esaki came on the monthly show to explain the previously released trailer at Xbox Direct.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, here's it for you to see:


500 cars will be featured in the game, over 100 of which are "new to (Forza) Motorsport". Forza Motorsport is said to be launched with more modern racing cars than ever as well.

Some new cars include:
  • 2021 Cadillac Whelen Racing DPi
  • 2019 Ginetta LMP1
  • 2021 Porsche Mission R
20 locations will be featured at launch in FM2023. 5 of which are completely new to the Forza franchise. The track set includes Maple Valley, Suzuka, Kyalami and Laguna Seca. Laguna Seca also receives a historic layout from the 60s, which skips the first sector, going straight from the Andretti hairpin to turn 5.

Going further, physics details were mentioned like has been known previously. It boils down to the physics that has been reworked from the ground up, increasing the depth.

Lastly, the AI has also been completely rebuilt, with more news on that to come up later.

What also has to be mentioned is that the launch date has shifted from "Spring 2023" to now being "2023" only. But as a smart person once said: "A late game is only late until it ships. A bad game is bad for the rest of your life."

Not only that. Reality Capture on the monitor to the left of the Speedtree, I daresay hybrid technology was used (optimised photogrammetry)

Unfortunately you will be disappointed by Forza Monthly, we learn 0 more information except that the graphics are top notch, that the sound is top notch, that the physics model is top notch.
There were about 6000 spectators which is very few for a game of this calibre.
Despite the huge budget of this game, they are very bad at communication, the game is clearly not ready (I'm convinced it's the multiplayer part that is lacking) to make sure everything works the best and to welcome players in the same conditions.

A bit of gameplay with pitstops, a few minutes of real racing would have been a joy but no Forza didn't provide it for me.
To be honest, most of the articles on RaceDepartment are more interesting to read than this presentation... especially for a SimRacing community.

I am very disappointed with what i have seen so far.

1) We still have not seen any actual gameplay footage and the game was supposed to launch in the first half of 2023 which i guess won't happen anymore. All we got is frantic replay cuts or slowmotion crashes (because clearly thats what a more simulation oriented game is all about)

2) From what i see in the footage, the DNA of FM 5, 6 and 7 is very strong with this one, so i have no idea what this whole "from the ground up" is all about because except the 5 new tracks and 100 new cars everything is retextured and recycled stuff from the previous games. Even the replays look the same, the cars look floaty with no bodyroll.

3) Which brings me to the overall visuals, for a 6 year time span since FM7 (because when this FM will launch later this year it will be 6 years) i am super underwhelmed by what i see. The lighting looks off, the cars 'glow', the color palette is cartoony looking.
For a game that is supposed to have been built for curent gen consoles and PC, honestly, it looks worse than GT7 in basically every aspect i can see right now. Car models look bland (probably its the shaders or idk) in comparison, the game lighting looks better in GT7 and even tracks and materials look nicer in GT7 or at least they seem more realistic.

I will probably buy it eventually on sale in a few years.The massive gap between the last Forza means this will need to be a good one.I think the consensus was Forza 2,4 & 6 were the best ones so this being 8 should be an improvement.
I think we know it will look & sound great but this edition will be judged on how good multiplayer is in regards to realism & crashers & what the game feels like with a wheel.Games like GT7 & F12022 suffer because the game has to be played on a wheel & controller so Forza has the same problem.

It's definitely a visual spectacle... I just hope they will truly focus on making this title a true sim, with telemetry support for motion rigs, super ultrawide resolution support, uncapped FPS, HDR, etc...

All they have shown in their videos is a kid with a controller... which is exactly what I was afraid of. Keep Forza Horizon focused on the arcade racing, and make sure Forza Motorsports is a true PC simulator (RRE, iRacing, AMS2, ACC, etc...)

If they cap the resolution to exactly 4K at 60fps since it's designed for the XBOX instead of PC... they are complete losers that don't understand anything the sim market. With an RTX 3090 or even higher, we want the full graphics glory at 5120x1440 at 120fps

Graphics looks superb ( PC2'esk )...will watch YT content creators Gameplay and live vicariously through them:)

So far the Forza Motorsport franchise never disappointed (never played any Horizon game but they look quite good too), so I bet they'll deliver a great game. Wait and see ! Even though, as some people mentioned above, it will certainly be a DLC-intensive game.

For me, I would rather choose RENNSPORT way over Forza Motorsport Reboot and Gran Turismo 7.
