Gran Turismo 7 | 1.26 Brings Back Popular Features

FiQpEv3aYAExlhU.jpg
The latest Gran Turismo 7 update just released, and for the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Polyphony Digital went a bit extra on this one - although, looking at the previous updates, one can wonder if they didn't intentionally held back some features to have a more significant update for the World Finals.

First thing is on the content side. No surprises there, as Road Atlanta and the 3 new cars were already confirmed :
  • BMW M2 Competition '18
  • Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth '87
  • Nissan Silvia K's Aero (S14) '96
The game also gifts you a special edition of the RedBull X2019 for taking part in the temporary special single player races with a high credits bonus. New scapes, permanent single player events, and 2 new engine swaps so far round up the content side of this update. But the more interesting part is the new features, especially two of them that were long due to make their appearance. qualifying options for lobbies, and the ability to sell cars.

The ability to sell cars was one of the most requested features, even before the game released, and it's finally back in Gran Turismo. It is not just a simple "get rid of your car for a small amount of credits" feature though: you need to visit the used car dealer to get your car appraised. Several parameters will affect the final selling price: mileage, parts, condition, but most of all, current market value. Every car's value evolves independently through time, with the game even offering you a graph showing the market's evolution within the past 2 weeks. One thing to note though, you can only sell one car of the same model per day: this most likely comes in as a countermeasure against a car tickets glitch exploit performed by many players a few months ago, allowing them to built a virtually infinite reserve of Honda NSX Gr.B cars.

Regarding qualifying, the options available to a lobby host are similar to what Gran Turismo players are used to, but with a nice new twist: the lobby doesn't automatically transition from the end of a qualifying session to race start. Instead, racers will be brought back to the lobby menu, with the ability to change their tyre compound for the start, while the host manually starts the race when he wants - or end it right there. This will be very practical for events organizers as you have time to write down the times before eventually launching back a Q2 session, and then manually set the grid for the race.

Game mechanics changes haven't been advertised, so it could have been easy to miss another very good change brought by this update. The weather evolution rate has been slowed down massively, meaning you now have more time to react to clouds appearing on the radar before they actually hit the track. The rate at which water levels change once it starts or stops raining is similarly affected. The result is more realistic and way less chaotic behavior, as before the update, track surface could go from full dry to full damp within half a lap. The weather system now looks to be well balanced and very usable. Additionally, although BoP or global physics didn't change, it looks like individual cars got their parameters tweaked, as performance changed noticeably for some Gr.3 cars.

Overall, this is the biggest update yet for GT7, bringing in good changes, which should make the game more playable - although lobby stability doesn't seem to have changed for now. For the full patch notes, click the spoiler below.

This is nice, but I'm currently on cooldown after deleting the game this morning to commemorate my daily morning sh*t. It'll be at least a month's worth of morning sh*ts before I'll even consider reinstalling.

Well, Well, I guess Kaz has ears after all, ;)

The resale of cars is very welcome, not that I see it as a credit spinner, but it will simply allow me to tidy up a bit and perhaps try out some of those cars that I felt might have been 'not' right up my alley. I will of course be keeping all of my GTO's, E-types, 250GT's, DB5's(DB4GT) Cobra Daytona's and such.
Qualifying... Lobby, is that not just on-line? not interested at all, I, along with 70-80% of GT7 owners don't race GT7 on-line, and I'm certainly not going to pay a monthly sub to be beaten up by degenerates who've had a bad day at school.
Single player changes, always welcome... until they're not, the weather changes sound good.
I'm hoping for some enduro's and more sensible fuel/tyre usage to go along with them, I simply love to stick 30+ laps in, feeling the car change over time and pit at the best time (that's not every 3 laps)
And Road Atlanta, I hope they'd done it proud.

The GT community hosts some of the best racing there is out there. It's not too hard to find a group of likeminded people with decent standards. The size of the playerbase actually gives more homogeneous grids, so if you're playing sport mode, you really want to start by avoiding contacts at all cost - unless you have good pace, then you want to just hit A+ ranking as soon as possible. But yeah, the best place is still amateur communities or 3rd party events organizers, even if the game is still not in its best state for that, this update should make more things pop up. In any case, it's worth trying, once you find good racers online, you never look back.

Also you'd be surprized at how many dirty drivers are actually fully fledged adults sometimes near retirement age, while there's a whole generation of teens who are actually both fast and respectful.

I've no doubt that what you say is true... but it will always depend on your viewpoint, and really, I'm not gonna sub to Sony, and definitely not in this economic environment.

As far as race etiquette is concerned, there's good and bad everywhere, I don't wreck my cars and am really peeved when the AI launches itself it me, I often exit and restart a race because of it, don't get me wrong I love a good scrap but (keep it Clean)

But, to be honest the only on-line races/racers that appeal to me is (and one day I'll pull it together and try to join em') is the GTL races run by UKGTL & NGLHTC, as I see the vids posted by Dimitar Dulichki and enjoy that kind of racing, I'd put myself as not far off DD in terms of speed on some of the tracks, and, I'm impressed by their racecraft and on track etiquette

I dunno why, after buying every single GT game there is and a new Playstation for this only game, with GT7 I feel like I'm done with it, however good they make it until the end. Being the game that has been selling the Playstation since day 1, I feel like Sony should dispose of enough money to hire a large/talented enough team to make their flagship game feel complete when it's released, for once. One game had interiors for some cars, not all. The next game had less cars than the previous ones, and they've kept updating the old ones and bringing them to the new game. Most had the option to sell cars, latest and greatest didn't until a few days ago. Most of them had car tuning/upgrades (not GT6 and Sport), GT7 brings them back victoriously. Seriously PD/Sony: either you don't care about the one game that made Playstation what it is, or you do it intentionally. It's a widespread syndrome in giant companies. Remove stuff, outrage; bring back - wow, bonus! Although I've been a big enough fan of the series to buy all the games and consoles that ran them, GT just always felt like a beta process and once every 3-4 years they come out with a milestone, calling it a new version. Not comparing sizes here, but that's what LFS has been doing too, and that's a 3 men team. PD has hundreds, if you look at the end credits. This is the last one I'm buying and the last console I'm getting regardless of all the bells and whistles they add later, but that should have been there at release. I'm feeling milked enough.

PS: and speaking of giant companies who forgot that little people with a wallet made them big in the first place, I've just spent 5 hours talking with 7 EA "Help" agents just to bring an issue to the state before it was before I dialed their "help" line, just because the 3rd advisor simply deleted all my DLCs and hung up. I think it's up to us to help these too big for nobody's good companies re-become the careful, entusiastic ones they were when they started.

Looking at the current car list it just doesn't interest me like previous ones did. Ok I know we previously had something stupid like 33 variations of one model when we had the MASSIVE car lists but there are too many iconic cars missing that have previously been in the game.

I know the fan boys claim that making a car take up 3 million man hours but aren't they all laser scanned now?

How come the 4door MKII RS500, or even the 4x4 version, never make it into any racing games? Such a rare beast. Better looking that this one too.

Yes, but - these scans are just point clouds that are to help the artist actually modelling the mesh for the game. They will be much more precise and lifelike with those scans, but probably rather take longer to make, not shorter.

I can't help but feel the same way mate, I've had them all except Sport because... but this version seems to be pandering even more to the attention deficit players with far to many things happening to keep them entertained, Start, "you're 30 seconds behind already" "Oh no it's raining" "quick Pit for wets" O'h no, it's dry, Quick pit for dry's" "Oh no your 3 lap old tyres have worn out" "quick pit for new slicks" "Oh no, it's raining as you come out of the pits"... "Oh no, the car in first place has run out of fuel and can only go at 50mph, quick pass him for the win...
Really, it's like motoring Yu-gi-oh, it's almost embarrassing, the AI is appalling, if there as many incidents on a real track as there are in GT7 the FIA would shut the whole shemozzle down, and not one of the AI competitors would be able to get near a Race track again, I tried to get through the historic Goodwood race 8 times before I had a clean finish and the replay showed several collisions elsewhere during that one!

Really there's nothing to keep single player mode players engaged after doing the game from start, so it's been two months since I last set it up and I was really disappointed with the update.
As a 25th Anniversary update, this is left seriously wanting for the single player, and as most players play off-line I can only assume that as PD have already had our money we don't matter, and the on-line players matter because they still spend monthly they're the ones that matter.
I had high hopes for this iteration of the game because Kaz himself had taken part in races, notably the 24 hours Nürburgring, but this product reflects none of that presumed experience, we used to have B spec drivers, to take over in longer races, now we have zip, and the longest race is 1 hour, Really, it's beyond recovery
I can't see myself ever giving wedge to Sony/PD again, they've lost me as a future customer

This is correct. Just b/c the point cloud is acquired easily it doesn't mean the finished product made from that point cloud can be turned around and made professional/commercial grade final product the next day. The scanning of the object is just one step in a multi-step process. Lidar/CAD/"laser scanning" is not a point, shoot & finished process like some people seem to think.

With a team their size, GT6 was still using GT4 assets. I'm still wondering why I got bought into GT Sport... that game is a FRAUD.

Yeah, millions of us did. And made PD/Sony the good behaving companies they are today, in the process.

I think it's a generational thing. Our expectations of this franchise grew with time and I guess after having done their math, PD are happy slowly replacing the old guard with newcomers who are extremely happy with what they get. Kaz even said in some interview that it's very difficult to make GT likeable by hardcore fans of the series and newcomers at the same time. Wink wink. On the flipside, I like PD's business model less and less, especially with the last 3. GT7's car prices are absurd. You advertise me a car, but then I have to grind for 3 days, 8 hours a day (or something) to get a McLaren F1. Really now. I feel like paid my dues, having bought 7-8 GT games and 4 playstations for this game exclusively. That's a couple thousand dollars at the very least. What would it cost PD to allow gamers to grind for 2 hours for a halo car instead of a week? Nothing. The most important thing in any business is how you make the customer feel about their purchase. I feel milked well beyond my liking by PD and will most probably turn away from this game I love since day 1 in the future.

I agree wholeheartedly, but the fact of the matter is there should be no grind, there should be things that we enjoy doing that would take place while we get the wedge for the dream car, like I prefer longer races so why not do a variety of longer races and a championship or two, sell a couple of cars I'd won and didn't want and bingo.
Why in Gods name should I be forced to partake in something I don't enjoy when I've already given you £400 for the game and apparatus, I purchased it for my pleasure and I'm damn sure I'm not gonna' be miserable and grind doing something that opposes that.
: How difficult would it be to randomise the longer race participants?
: How difficult would it be to offer an extension to the 10 lap races for 30/40/50 lap races
: How difficult would it be to string together a few championships of reasonable length.
: How difficult would it be to bring back Qualifying and offer Grid starts for MOST races
: How difficult can it be to close up the pack on a rolling start (fer crying out loud man it's three laps for me and two and half for the leader, my car has to be 6 seconds a lap faster)
Nah... it's a lost cause for the old guard.

... ... ...
Yeah, Yamauchi himself becoming a race driver gave me high hopes as well, but clearly that's not how Polyphony Digital thinks.
What I don't understand the most, is the upper cap for in-game credit they put into GT7, is Japanese really THAT addicted to micro transaction thanks to all their gatcha game BS? Oh, wait... I forgot how expensive FFXIV is, and it still has ATROCIOUS micro transaction... maybe GT7 is becoming the next FFXIV, and young people will still love it to death, which is unbelievable.

Indeed. There should be more elegant and less intrusive, greedy ways of generating income through microtransactions in a game. The way that "progressed" in the last 3 games is disgusting really. Keeping a car nut hooked in a car game - and a very good simulator, on top - shouldn't be that hard, when the main ingredients are there. I've always supported products because I liked the mindset of the people behind them. There was a time when GT was pure, honest. PD's mindset has changed too much for me not to take note. Kaz says rare cars in GT should reflect their real life scarcity and value. Dude, that's why I buy a game and a steering wheel: so I can virtually enjoy those cars, given their real life price. Be real. And no, I won't spend 40$ for one Hagerty car after spending 80$ for the whole game. Nor will I spend 4300$ to get all the cars in the game without grinding. And no, I'll no longer buy a game which I can't fully enjoy when my internet is down. Sorry, PD. And yes, GT looks better than ever, moves better than ever. Bittersweet.

Remember how PD gave everyone that (pathetic if you ask me) 1 million credits after the server outage/outrage and left that engine swap glitch unpatched for a while just to make amends? They do have senses.

As a sidenote, one company in the same business (and past employer) succeeded in throwing their reputation down the toilet pretty convincingly with Battlefield 2042. Trust is the hardest thing to regain, when lost.

PS: unbelievable :roflmao: (the greed): https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-on-pc-could-happen/

That's a truth there, Product Loyalty can easily be turned into Product Disloyalty.
