2022 Formula One United States Grand Prix

Over 400,000 people are expected to attend the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas as Formula 1 returns to action for the US Grand Prix.

COTA's 20 corners over 5.5 kilometers will be the stage for the F1 drivers to do what they do best at this year's US Grand Prix.

With the drivers' and constructors' championships already decided, all but Max Verstappen and Red Bull will be battling to maintain or improve their position in the standings. The final rankings for drivers and constructors have yet to be solidified, and points are increasingly rare with just three races remaining after the US GP.

Last year's race was won by Verstappen, who edged out 2021 rival Lewis Hamilton, who himself has won the United State Grand Prix six times. Hamilton is still chasing his first victory of the season, and will likely end held to the first winless season of his career.

The fastest race lap at COTA belongs to Charles Leclerc, who set a time of 1:36.169 on lap 44 of the 2019 race. The 2022 season has been frustrating for Leclerc, who started the season with rapid pace and strong results, but quickly cooled off. He currently sits one point behind Sergio Perez in the drivers' standings.

After Austin, the field will finish out the season with races in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

What are your predictions for the United States Grand Prix? Could Max Verstappen tie the single-season race wins record this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

my high point of the race was a complaining man in a silver car, crazy that this hasn't been discussed on this forum yet? :D

Mmm I hope the silver cars will participate again next year that makes racing more fun;)

All depends on the weather/track conditions. Doubtful that the real world conditions exactly match the sim conditions so these comparisons have little value.
Yesterday someone did 1:30 something in iRacing on the W12 race I raced. Even assuming track conditions in iRacing make the car faster(it could be other way around) it's still too big gap.

I would be more interested if F1 would return to Watkins Glen or Sebring, or use some of our classic road courses - Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Laguna Seca, Road America. But at least they're not at that Mickey Mouse IMS circuit.
Read with a bit of humor...
Mickey Mouse? Ridiculous! This circuit is of great beauty, the sequence of turns is exceptional, the width of the road allows maneuvers of overtaking, change of trajectories, etc... We could at the limit reproach it for a lack of imagination because it copying famous corners from other circuits, but these corners are splendid and they are not stupidly copied, they are always a little or very different.
From what you say only the good old circuits can be suitable for formula one, ok, and also we should go back to the good old days of the cowboys and the iron horse!
For my part, I love Sebring and Daytona, Road Atlanta, Road America, Lagua, I'm chaining the laps on Automobilista 2, I've been in love with it since it first came out on a pc simulation (can't remember anymore, am too old and losing my memory!), but since being able to virtually ride this marvel of circuit it has become one of my favorites.
We will say that its main fault is that it does not look very American, that's a real criticism, it looks more like a European circuit.
Mickey Mouse? No, Tintin and Snowy!

This has been discussed elsewhere, the gist of the response is:
1. Different car, different rules.
2. Weather conditions
3. Immortal sim drivers vs real live jockeys
4. 100's of sim laps vs dozens for the real drivers
5.(and the fanboy response) yeh, it's iRacing.

This season has been way too long. I can't keep my focus anymore. Slept throughout 95% of the race :)

Does that include the runover from last season? Silly season? Budget cap stuff? Etc.?

Because there's been so much outside the races. It fills up some of the F1 mental capacity bucket :)

Sure that can happen. iRacing worked directly with Mercedes to develop the car and I'm sure Mercedes had certain "must haves" like making the car accessible to lower skilled drivers - so you get aliens doing alien times.

My high point was Lulu's track limits flag.

We've officially entered the "pointless races left on the calendar" phase of the season...
I guess it depends on what driver you support maybe? If you really like F1, or any motorsport actually, then races should be enjoyable and worth a watch regardless of Championships.

This is so true markg88, as I fan of technology and grand theatre of any form of motorsport, I’m happy with any f1 type coverage to watch… I remember watching through the wire at F1 teams practicing at Donington in my lunch hour in the 80s/ 90s, this wasn’t racing but made me happy to see them running around the circuit…

So happy with anything f1 to be fair… what I don’t like is the break between the end of this season till the start of the next… this makes the winter a very dark time to me :(
