World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing available on Playstation and Xbox


The iRacing development team released their first racing game for consoles platforms PlayStation and Xbox yesterday.

After decades of being completely focused on PC hardcore simulations, and after the boom of the sub-genre on consoles, staff and investors decided it was a good time to try something different. WoO: DR is the first attempt to get out of that PC comfort zone and enter the world of consoles.

iRacing.com Motorsport Simulations signed two complementary development companies last year to achieve this. Monster Games is the one who's console experience is really relevant and the guys responsible to translate all PC assets to this new console title. Using limited content from the main iRacing.com PC title, but with real licenses, this game is a good test to know how an overall racing title can work on other platforms such as Playstation and Xbox.

With more than 40 tracks, career mode, 24 online driver splits and biggest names of the dirt racing discipline is expected to gain enough experience to prepare future adventures.

World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing has two editions; Gold and Standard priced at 69,99 and 49,99 dollars respectively. You can upgrade your standard edition for 29,99 dollars to get the rest of 2022 season addons.

From what I've seen, the best option on PC (especially for short tracks) is SRX: The Game. Including for single player – it seems to have pretty solid AI. But its strength is on paved ovals with the SRX cars and Super Late Models. I don't know much about the details of racing on dirt, but those who do (e.g. former IRL sprint car driver Billy Strange on YouTube) say the sprint cars and such on dirt ovals in the game are a weird experience not without its issues.

When I first read this I thought they had ported the iRacing gravel physics to consoles, but in the video it just says "tuned by iRacing." I don't know what it means, but it's not exactly confidence inspiring (it reminds me a little of the old "same great taste, zero sugar" soda pop commercials.)

I don't get it. So standard is 50 euro. If you want a 2022 roster you have to pay 30 euro on top. Deluxe is a little less. Shouldn't it just be standard and deluxe with 2022 roster, or just standard. It feels weird.

Edit: It also looks a lot better than Dirt Trackin Sprint Cars for Nintendo Switch.

This is game is not even close to be a iRacing port, is another Nascar Heat 4 modified as was the SRX Game. If I know right, Monster already was developing this title or something similar before the studio be bought by the iRacing guys.

At least are 40 variations ... Because or I'm blind or every server in every eurocentric "sim" game only have Monza and Spa disponible with the same GT3 combo.. :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

The closest Monster Games' game was the one before SRX, tony stewart all american racing (there weren't winged sprintcars though).

I can't understand why this one is not on pc and why it is that expensive (maybe the previous games were similarly priced on consoles, but on pc they were quiet cheap). Shame on you iracing.

As monster games have been improving each time, I assume this one, with iracing's help, must be interesting.

Better avoiding childish remarks, maybe explaining what all this is about would be better.

I personnally did not understand the point of oval racing until I made the effort of trying to virtually race on ovals. I just advise any virtual road pilot to do so and to remember how dragging is crucial, as it has been lost for many years in F1, the supposed pinnacle of racing sports, and to enjoy the thrill of running in a pack at insane speeds.

For almost nothing you can enjoy the experience, not in full realism, with nascar heat 5. Nascar racing 2003 is a strongest experience but not sure it is a good way to discover oval racing as it can be frustrating for new comers.

Oval racing on dirt is a different experience, highly challenging, full of action. All american racing and srx are imo a nice cheap introduction to the sport. A more realstic way is, again, nascar racing 2003. Rfactor DWD mod (there is an ams conversion, not sure it has been finalized) is another, hard, way. Not the best experience imo, it depends on the ffb you get from it, and the AIs are not sliding.

Anyway, better to discover each other one sport than bashing.

It's because iRacing doesn't want to publish a game that competes with iRacing.

Since this game is only on Xbox and PlayStation, it doesn't compete with iRacing.

And that's exactly the mistake iracing makes. These are 2 different products answering to 3 distinct needs. Those who have not been willing to invest in iracing won't do it anyway, but they could be interested in a sprint cars title.

And those who are willing to invest in iracing want the features of irackng and they won't find them in this game.

There is no canibalism there... on the contrary, a missed business opportunity. I always wonder how a company can be so successful at one time and can be so incompetent later. A CEO change? Brain washing?

Do they really bought Monster Games by fear of competition??? Because this is exactly what it looks like and that would be so stupid. Has anyone there unsuscribed from iracing because of any Monster Games' dirt title?

EDIT : Well, on another note, maybe pc sales history of Monster Games dirt titles are really low and aren't worth the effort... but why did these titles all come out on pc? I don't believe this explanation.

I got this yesterday on PS4. It is, frankly, amazing. A sim racing essential, up there with the best. Imagine if iRacing remade Dirt to Daytona, because that's pretty much what this is. Great career mode, great physics, great ffb. Real tracks, cars and racers, with a few fictional ones to fill it up. Don't worry about turning left all the time, because you'll actually be steering right a lot too! I took a gamble and was taken aback by how good this is
