WRC 23: Rumours from Insiders

It doesn't matter what it will be in the end and if it will be good since people will still complain as always and even more because "EA". Personally i can say i play EA games since 1998 and never had a bad experience in any of them and always a lot of fun.

Well, that's interesting, I wonder how it will fit into an "Offical Game". It could be part of a Story mode, similar we've seen in the new Grid, or the F1 games. I'm actually curious to see what will come out of this. On one hand Codies had a good foundation to build upon, EA on the other hand is a bit worrying. I just hope they won't dial down the realism to make it "accessible for a broader audience" (meaning trying to make more money). I'm thinking something similar like Dirt Rally to Dirt 4, or worse. But a rally game with the career mode of recent F1 games, and all the bits like actually walking around in the paddocks while setting up the cars while listening to the commentators talking about the upcoming event would be bloody amazing. I have a feeling immersion is not going to be a problem.

But this is the internet? We're not allowed to have fun playing games unless it's From Software or CDPR because they're the good guys. /s

But seriously, while some of the games have issues and things I don't like I can agree with this statement almost 100%. In fact I feel like people blame EA for issues that in some cases they're not responsible for, like F1 22's online or the entire debacle that was Anthem. All while conveniently ignoring all the good games and experiences they've produced.

I doubt EA would have acquired Codemasters if they weren't gonna let them keep making their games the way they currently do. Especially with how successful Dirt Rally 2.0 was accumulating 9 million players total only a few months after release.

I am warning Codemasters: as soon as it is possible to customize the car with anything that won’t change car performance (except liveries) or to be able to customize the driver, I won’t buy the game.

What Kylotonn is going to deliver is probably not worth spending money on, but I hope I am wrong this time.

This article basically reads as "so my mate told me this"

I just hope that physics are good i mean dirt rally 2 had good gravel and snow physics but tarmac was soo bad it was not even fun if they can fix that i am happy.

My one WRC title (WRC7) does not recognize the MOZA R9 for mapping, so I'll pass.

Exactly. You don't buy a company to ignore its assets, they are the reason you bought them.

What I'm interested in is what engine will be used? Still the ego engine? Or the madness engine? The latter has always felt more natural to me (pcars2's rallycross is far superior to Dirt games' rallycross) but can it handle long rally tracks without a loss in performance?

Dirt Rally 1 was Paul Coleman's & Team passion project. It was also heavily communicated with the community and it was awesome. Ofcourse it has some flaws, but you could feel the rally, the love, the power

Then we got Dirt 4 which was advertised as best of both worlds. If failed to deliver. Weird handling, repeating produceral generated tracks, and some more. The generated tracks could been awesome if there was some more time for Paul Coleman to invest in that.

Finally we got Dirt Rally 2. Paul & Team has left and it was picked up by other people. It failed to deliver. Lots of bugs, missing features, even the FFB was sort of absent and feeling weird. It took them 9 months to fix some of the stuff. Don't forget the anti-consumer DLC policy. The weirdest I've ever seen. Still to this day It's buggy, like all the popping textures, and lightning flashes all around the track. I loved some of the new stuff, like ice patches in Monaco, but that's it.

Dirt Rally 3 aka WRC is now in EA hands and will just be crap. I am sure of it. Rushed, missing features, dumbed down, weird RPG-lite featurese and all that. Hit a tree, just brush it off and continue your way.

I played WRC 5 6 7 and saw the developers making improvements. Been playing WRC 10 for a bit as a side-project I am impressed how far they have come and how the game drives. Is it perfect? Ofcourse not, but the tracks are surely fun because they are narrow, scary and makes me sweaty. Only I don't like is that weird RPG skill-tree. I want a 'sim'. Not farming skill points to have a better car or better grip.

Imho RBR with NGP 6 is still the king of rally, but applying all these mods can be a hassle. There are 1 in all-install mods, but still a hassle. I think someone asks me for an easy totall package I would say Dirt Rally 1 or WRC 10. Curious about the reviews of EA's WRC. But I doubt it will be good.

If they come up with a mix of Dirt Rally and the F1 games it should be fine. The Dirt Rally visuals are second to none in my view, couple this with licensed content and it will surely find its audience. I hope it will have different skill levels for different types of players from casual to sim. Let's wait another 18 months and then read the first proper reviews (and before, let's specualte over teasers, tweets and screenshots ...)

Everyone is entitled to their preferences. I hope for a good game. If it is good I will buy it under these conditions: The game is complete, I do not have to be always online, I am not prompted or pestered by any adverts or microtransactions within the product. I will miss out on a good game if my conditions are not met. Ooh get you...

Looking at it from 2022 it looks pretty dated to me sry

NFS 2015 on the other hand looks like it will be released in 2023

Codemasters has a great engine. I really love how Grid Legends looks and runs.

There is already from them an video on YT and they said they will put all the rally stages into this last game. They add then the hybrid cars and thats all.
Game is ready. Zero effort like always.

I own unfortunately Wrc8+10 and with every day i regret the lost money.
Ok, didnt bought that crap on release so its easier to handle that fact.

Anyway. I will for sure do not buy that crap software...doesnt matter how they name it. Its a fire and forget game.
In Wrc10 there is no proper FFB until this days. So do not expect wonders.
But the fanboys will buy it instantly for sure.

While these rumours about the upcoming WRC 23 title seem very flimsy, I like that they are being discussed in front page articles on RD! Why? Well, I remember when the well-researched revelations about the sketchiness of Motorsport Games were not being promoted to the front page. This, at the time, I believe was justified by saying they were "rumours", or something like that (which IMO they mostly weren't, but that's for another discussion ). Anyway, hopefully this article today signals a change where further rumblings, rumours, and revelations (whether positive or negative) about major developers and titles are something that can be discussed and promoted to the RD community as a whole.

Honestly, now that RallySimFans exists, I'm not sure I can agree that RBR (which by the way is now on NGP7) is a hassle - at least based on my own experience. It takes a while to download the 100+ GB of stages, but other than that, it's been nothing but easy-to-use for me since I first installed it a number of months ago.

I just hope they add relevant features as opposed to changing what colour you want your dinner table to be, or what your driver will have for tea.

Thanks, mate. Need to try NGP7. I know there's EasyRBR as well. RBRPro is a scam, tho. And there are some other all-in installers if I recall. Its still sort of hassle, sort of, but its easier now. I remember days I had to install RBRCit, Pacenotes, tracks by myself, editing ini's, etc, haha.

Oh God. Those days sound horrible

Yeah, so RallySimFans has a all-in-one installer that gives you everything you need AND has a Launcher app that lets you do all the tweaking you might need to do (e.g. FMOD sound levels, graphics settings) in a GUI application. Full transparency - I did have to edit one INI file manually to fix the Pacenote plugin window size when I was changing resolutions from 1440p to 5K and back (not exactly a common thing). But it's been a great experience.

I swear, I'm not a total RSF RBR shill . But since discovering it, it'll take A LOT from another rally title to capture my attention. The KT WRC series has come closest with their glorious stage design and single player experience, but the bugs/oversights have kept me away so far.
