Formula 1 takes on the fastest circuit on the calendar this weekend, with some potentially interesting mid-field battles set to take place.

Racing's Temple of Speed, Monza, is the site of Formula 1 racing this weekend. In addition to being home to the fastest F1 lap ever recorded with Lewis Hamilton's 1:18.887 Q3 time in 2020, Monza has also provided storylines for fans in recent years.

Daniel Ricciardo's most recent win came at Monza, and Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided in turn 1 in the midst of their famous season-long battle last year.

This year's championship battles for drivers and constructors have been far less hotly contested, with Verstappen and the Red Bull team comfortably ahead in either contest.

Behind them, Ferrari and Mercedes aren't far apart in the standings thanks to Mercedes claiming second and fourth last time out at Zandvoort. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finds himself in a second tightly-contested points battle as well, tied with Red Bull's Sergio Perez for second place in the drivers' standings.

Monza favours cars with stronger high speed capabilities, and could be yet another showcase of the dominant Red Bull car. While the 2022 regulations will keep the cars from setting a record breaking laptime, the ability to follow closer than last season through fast corners could make for some interesting on-track battles.

TBF, A complete and utter shambles right in the team's backyard and in front of the eyes of a post-pandemic crowd brimming with Tifosi might be a blessing in disguise by forcing Ferrari management's hand.

For the next couple years, maybe we should change this tradition to who will come in second because I am thinking Max will be winning at least 20 more races by the end of next year.

I am thinking PEZ for second.

Perez is probably going to take a new engine this weekend. I’d go with Russell

Verstappen walkover, the car with the best aero efficiency will shine on the long straights, and Max is on fire.

Red Bull is apparently not only faster than Ferrari in terms of both straight-line acceleration and top-speed, but also in the high speed corners (and possibly medium speed, not sure). Ferrari is only apparently faster in the lower speed corners. I'm obviously wayyyyyyyyy oversimplifying this as there's wayyyy more to it but, advantage Red Bull.

I also don't believe Ferrari have the most powerful PU. I've been hearing this ever since early on in the season. The Red Bull straight-line speed advantage is ludicrous. There's no way that's just simply less drag. You can see the superior acceleration of the Red Bull compared to other cars before they even reach very high speeds.

Hoping for Leclerc 1st, Sainz 2nd, Max 3rd. Only way that'll happen is a minor incident for Max (enough to knock him to 3rd but not enough to take him out). As long as Mercs arn't on the podium I'll be happy.

I don't hear anything about Alpha Tauri's conspiracy theory anymore thankfully! Attacking people with a made-up story is just a bad one



I read a lot of posts here about RB's dominant car (the RB 18) wonder if those people have seen all the races because the Ferrari was the faster car for the first six months of this year..and Redbull even too heavy they have mainly lost their momentum by making mistakes themselves, and Verstappen who is always there to strike explains the big gap in points.

By the way, I wouldn't mind if Leclerc wins and Ferrari race at home. I have a soft spot for Leclerc and that boy deserves better, if Ferrari wants to win, things have to change in management

I think it's clear that Max will run away and hide within the first few laps and unless there is some unexpected problem the real fight will be for the minor places.

I wonder how long it will be before people start complaining about RBR being too dominant and that the race wins are all down to the car?

Any sporting challenge becomes boring if any competitor wins too often... take UK football for example. We have the "Big Four" that later expanded to the "Big Six" and they have sucked in huge amounts of money and players.

The RB is not one and a half seconds faster + the party mode in Qualy as we have seen in the Mercedes years, moreover, overtaking has fortunately become easier in 2022 with the new car concept. Zandvoort was also not a walk in the park for RB it is much closer together what I said because of the Ferrari mistakes, RB's lead is now large

Now that Porsche has put an end to a partnership with Red Bull, can a door open back up for Andretti Autosport?

The only way that'll happen if Porsche partners up with Andretti, but considering Porsche are already working with Andretti's biggest rivals in Penske in IMSA and WEC... I doubt that's on the table.

I believe Porsche and AA are partnering for next season in FE. I agree it would be a long shot as Porsche would probably prefer an established f1 team.

Probably won't happen, but I'd kind of like to see Norris, Russell, or even Hamilton win this weekend just because it would be quite poignant to hear God Save the King.

There is car dominance (Mercedes) and there is driver dominance (Verstappen)

That's the problem when trying to win a championship against Verstappen, Alonso, Hamilton, Senna, Schumacher, etc. You need a much better car then them because they can continuously wring out performance from the car even if it's not the best. Weekend after weekend, lap after lap. And the weekends when the car is so far off the pace they can't win no matter what, well they still end up usually finishing 2nd or 3rd.

yup it's a skill all the top drivers have, the can extract the absolute maximum a human can from the vehicle on a consistant basis.
