Forza Monthly Roundup | June 2022

After the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, which brought us the official trailers for both the new Forza Motorsport and the first DLC for Forza Horizon 5, called Hot Wheels, Forza developers hosted their Monthly today.

In it, the hosts went through the details of the trailers with the producers of the respective games. So, let’s jump right into what they talked about:

Forza Motorsport 2023 News

The newest title in the Forza Motorsport series is set to release in the spring of 2023. It seems this new release will not follow the numeric titling formula, since the producer themselves refrained from using the number 8 in combination with the game’s name. The features that were described for this new game were:

Time-Progression
This widely requested feature will make a dynamic time-of-day progression possible. According to Creative Director Chris Esaki, this will both enable 24-hour progressions on every track and allow for a more realistic approach to race track temperature and grip.

All-New Tyre Model
The new tyre physics, which were explained as having “48 times the fidelity” have also received a more in-depth explanation. According to Esaki, tyres do not only have 8 contact points to the ground now instead of 1 but also the frequency is said to be increased by 6 times. This new tyre model therefore should allow 48 times more detailed tyre physics.

Dynamic Damage and Wear
All vehicles featured in the new Forza Motorsport title are said to individually and dynamically calculate any damage done to the vehicle. Meaning after a race, you should be able to even tell “when the contact for that individual scratch” happened.

Furthermore, tyre wear is said to be based on the selected compound. A “soft, medium and hard” compound was mentioned. Tyre wear is not only supposed to change the handling of the vehicles, but also rubber in the circuits.

Featured Tracks
The race tracks featured in the trailer will all be available in the final release. Those will be:
  • Maple Valley Raceway
  • WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
  • Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
  • Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit
  • Circuit Hakone
New to the Forza Motorsport world will be both Kyalami and Hakone. The latter is a fictional circuit based in Japan. Some circuits will feature laser-scanning technology.

Real-Time Raytracing
According to Esaki, ray tracing will be featured at any time in the new Forza Motorsport. On the track, the reflections will be calculated live.

Lots of GT Cars
According to a comment from Esaki, the new Forza Motorsport will feature “Lots of GT Cars”.

The new Forza Motorsport is set to release for current Xbox consoles as well as PC via the Microsoft Store as well as Steam.

Forza Horizon 5 – Hot Wheels DLC

The first DLC for Forza Horizon 5 will take players back on the orange track as in the third instalment. This time, above the clouds of Mexico.

The orange tracks will be suspended in the air and feature both standard and magnet versions. The latter allows for loopings and steep drops while still grounding the vehicle. Other terrains will largely feature cliffsides, plateaus and snow-covered mountains.

A progression feature will be installed in this new area, allowing players to only drive up to B-class cars in the beginning. Through the so-called “Hot Wheels Academy” a driver will be able to ascend the ranks and be allowed to drive higher spec vehicles.

Hot Wheels featured in the DLC will include:
  • Deora 2
  • Bad to the Blade
  • Baja Bone Shaker
  • Chevrolet Hot Wheels Camaro
However, lots more vehicles will be included and released with the DLC. The DLC is set to launch across platforms on July 19th, 2022.

Is the new Forza Motorsport something you are interested in? And what do you think about Hot Wheels being featured in Forza Horizon 5? Please let us know in the comments below!

Well,
: I hope they keep the ray tracing at the end, not like the ACC announcement. At least on the pit level, there is no one here, no promises like on the official ACC website. On the other hand, ACC seems much more simulated in every way.

As much as the 1st trailer I know it's about a car game (although F1 98 already handled fuel, tyres and damage) as much as the gameplay trailer :
I really wonder about the nature of the game. I'm taking the elements of the end narrator, replacing car with fish and the title of the game.

We believe that the accuracy of our overhauled physics, the beauty of our fishes and tracks, our new dynamic time of day, advanced fishes damage, and real-time ray tracing on track lead to a generational leap in immersion.

This is the all-new Fishing Simulator.

And don't tell me you wouldn't like to get it as DLC? lol

Bonus, even more incredible, the preview ridicules all the RollerCoaster Tycoon players who spent hours building an amusement park, if only they had waited for the night, the buildings grow like magic.

I like the Forza games as a variety to my sims.

Sometimes its just lean back, take a controller end enjoy the world or the amount of cars or whatever.
Horizon however got a bit boring, because of no real goal and too arcady car behavior. But Motorsport will be a must have.
Time to finally get the rtx 3080 ...

No single player custom championship = No buy
LOL i would fully agree to you if we wäre would talk about a sim.

But with forza Motorsport there is always a „career“ Mode at least giving king of satisfaction by progressing the career.
So i see no need for custom championship here

That is the problem for me. It comes across as another Project Cars/Grid series game. I'm not interested in career/story modes, did those back in the day. I want the ability to setup my own championship. But then I guess these kind of games are not for me.

I wasted a fair amount of time on the previous Forza Motorsport. Mainly making FWD cars into RWD and drifting around the airport. Sometimes you just want a laugh that you can't get in Raceroom or whatever.

Forza 7's wrong physics (not "bad" but simply wrong) kept me using wheel to play it, honestly joystick experience is pretty good. Hopefully 8 wolill be at least playable with wheels

Forza Motorsport Reboot is another good-looking Simcade so far!
Definetly it is.

But the question is, do Forza want be a "hardcore sim" or is it just right to be the best sim-cade on the market?

For me it`s just fine if Forza stays what it is. Like mentioned above, just to take a controller and chill out. Without the "stress" behind the wheel.

I reckon it'll stay the course and stay sim-cade. Once it comes out I'll most likely try it out with my rig though.

But really. Imagine they include driver changes. 24h team races in Forza? That'd be hilarious. :D

FM is interesting. Still waiting for the most two important informations....
1. yes, we have implemented now a proper FFB and it feels quite good with current available hardware.
2. yes, we want to rise the immersion in our franchise so we decided to implement full VR support.
(see FS2020 on pc.... its possible)

And according to FH5 and the Hotwheels Dlc... geezes christ.... another useless dlc.
In FH4 the Lego bullshit and now here the Hotwheels stuff...
Maybe i am alone with this point of view but when you imagine FH5 without all the useless fortnite-festival-fancy-crap so this could be a quite good car enthusiasts game.
Ok, now i have "to fade it out" but ive expect more stuff/dlc which is more serious and not this crap.
When i would want to play Lego so i would but a Lego game.
When i would want to play Hotwheels so i can grab the Hotwheels game.
Thats why i dont want such useless things in FH....

I wish if Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo series were both proper hardcore sim racers in order to make them more fitted for PC platform.

Edit: Why not both Hardcore Sim and Simcade? for PC and Xbox/PlayStation consoles respectively?

Well i think its impossible. Its just too many cars to feed with proper physics.

ailer I know it's about

With power of cloud, nothing is impossible.

After, it's a game for the general public and which brings in a lot of money. By the time I get behind the wheel in my living room etc., I've already finished a fast race and I can do something else afterwards, that's also the reality...

Yes and i suppose because of this facts they even don`t want to make it hardcore-sim.
It could mean potential loss of buyers.
Hardcore driving physics is not wanted public, it´s is too difficult and too stressful for the majority i guess.

Stressful I don't know, but it's still entertainment and as Sim Racing requires an investment, it automatically takes us out of the mainstream.

In itself, it's understandable and even a Sim Racing enthusiast can have fun with friends on a TV with a split screen etc and it's often the most social and real moments.

After that only advantage of the big simulation, the fact of not investing in a steering wheel and not knowing how to adjust the FFB allows to avoid many accidents at the level of the arm, it thus saved the life to many couples of an eventual incapacity to .... lol

Perhaps, these two needs a new spin-off installment which focuses on hardcore Sim physics, reusing the same tracks from their most recent respective installment and then making them both exclusively to PC, just like how Automobilista 2 is exclusive to PC so the developer can easily focus on the racing wheel's optimization rather than using the controller pad.

P.S Just my thoughts folks.

Well let's put it like this, if the new Motorsport will feel anything like GT7 with a wheel then i am pretty ok with it as both are simcades in our eyes (meaning the eyes of the Simracing community).
This here sounds actually very promising "According to Esaki, tyres do not only have 8 contact points to the ground now instead of 1 but also the frequency is said to be increased by 6 times." Let's wait and see how this will actually feel like on a wheel. But even if it feels bad, if the moment-to-moment gameplay is nice i don't mind playing on a controller.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
