RENNSPORT Summit | Porsche Mission R Featured In-Game and In-Person

RENNSPORT Porsche Mission R and Goodwood 01.jpg
Porsche's all-electric prototype, the Mission R, was on site at the recent RENNSPORT Summit and was also debuted in game.

The recent RENNSPORT Summit brought together 100 esports professionals and sim racing media members to try out the upcoming racing title. To date, only GT3 cars had been featured in the few press releases from Competition Company concerning their RENNSPORT project.

Summit attendees arrived to the venue to find two real-world race cars parked in the building, the BMW M4 GT4 and the Porsche Mission R.

The former was more in line with what was expected of the title based on what has been shared publicly to date, as RENNSPORT had previously shown renders of both BMW and Porsche race cars.

But the Mission R was somewhat of a surprise. The 1,073 horsepower all-electric prototype was small in form but large in presence at the event, and proved to be more than just eye candy. Day 3 of the Summit gave attendees a chance to drive the prototype in-game.

It was unveiled in RENNSPORT on a track that had also been kept under the radar until that point. Drivers had the chance to set a point-to-point time at the Goodwood Hill Climb track.

Its ferocious power accelerated the car at a staggering rate, while its necessarily heavy design made braking and cornering a much more challenging endeavor.

More than impressing attendees with how it drives, the Mission R's presence in RENNSPORT broke the perception that the title may be limited to GT3 only. This was further clarified throughout the weekend, as the design and business leads behind the racing sim shared their intent to grow the content far beyond GT cars. While no content list was given at this early stage in development, the notion that the title would not be GT cars only earned a collective sigh of relief from those at the event.

Multiple members of the RaceDepartment team were fortunate to be present at the event, and we will have much more coverage of what transpired at the RENNSPORT Summit and what our impressions of the title were in the coming days.

Let us know your thoughts on the inclusion of the Mission R or Goodwood at the RENNSPORT debut in the comments below.

Waiting for more input from youtubers that went to the place. It sounds good that they already mentioned different classes of cars and that they introduce A to B type of track events.

But oh boy we need more info to make it believable after the Motorsport Games drama.

I'm ignoring these NFT rumors for now. But it seems to me that Kunos may have a strong competition, because it looks like AC2 and RSgg are two very similar products in the making. They even might both use the same graphics engine from what I remember.
So it could be a race between those two companies who is shipping out their sim first.
Probably not good for us customers, since developers under time pressure can't deliver a polished product...

We'll see what time will tell.

No thank you. NFT and esports focused game are a major turn off.
Agreed on the eSports side of things.

Very telling that any RD article on eSports has the lowest engagement of all articles on the site.

Starting to hear from more and more guys that used to be active in the iRacing NASCAR eSports world that they weren't sure how the venture made money + that the metrics used internally are slightly misleading. When your own competitors are seeing through it, that's a problem.

And that's before we talk about things like the toxicity that comes with having to grind out a game like it's a job and break it to the Nth degree, defeating the point of a racing simulator, then get subjected to bizarre contracts where you lose money.

Other devs like Motorsport Games throw caution to the wind and tell investors 81 million people are watching rFactor 2 Le Mans, which is just so blatantly false that they should be sued for that alone.

There's a great post on reddit from an event worker who questioned who is actually watching this.

We're also going to run into the same problem pro sports leagues have, where not *everyone* can be an eSports pro so an entire wave of players could grind racing sims for years and basically get nothing for it. At that point you have to ask yourself what's even the point of calling it an eSport when it's just online leagues, which have been around since the dawn of sim racing?

It's like this weird money laundering/venture capital hybrid that has no thought behind it beyond using as many buzzwords as you can to get investors to throw money at you. eSports! Worldwide ecosystem! Ownership of sim racing!

Great news that at least VR is confirmed now. Did they mention if it uses Forward Rendering or Deferred Rendering?

After all the MSG bullshit and the pretty vague announcement for this title, only of see a actual footage of this game running already get some credits with me, not that much, but still.

btw, give me a huge feel of a new ACC rival.

let´s cautiously see what the future have for us from this

Although I think NFTs are stupid and bad for the environment as they use crypto I'm also trying to look on the bright side and be excited for a 100% new sim racing title.

Heck, even Overwatch league isnt doing that well now. What makes one think that another esports focused racing game will survive among a sea of them like ACC, R3E, rF2, GT7, FM8, or iRacing? And if esports is such a great thing, why are motorsports games running out of cash? Or esports getting shown on ESPN more?

The reason why I am turned off from esports is that esports game designs are contradictory to fun game designs. A racing game would have less impact on game designs but the car balancing, and game content will be affected by it. One thing I am pretty sure of is that there won't be many historic cars in Rennsports too because no one races historic cars in "esports". Then, it will be filled with either GT3, GT4 or TCR because these cars are easy to drive and create good brand awareness. If not, more of those up and coming god awful EVs that plagued raceroom. With a lot of interesting championships being licensed to various developers, what interesting and unique content Rennsport will offer? One Porsche Mission E isn't enough.

Being someone who used to love Blizzard games, Blizzard has tarnished esports for me with their overzealous approach to balancing the game for the top 0.1% pros in esports. Meanwhile, the rest of the players are forced to play the game in a way that is intended only for 0.1%. Even though it is unfun and has no variety of mechanics. Hence, when I see the world esports, I will not have any interest in it because the game will be made only for those who compete/exploit at top level. Not to mention, I hate how current developers social media just keep pushing people to go rank and so on? Or neglect offline play because it isn't esports, with bugs that took literally a year to fix.

At the same time, why bother if I have access to other games that we all play? Despite they are all getting more sterile over time because everyone is bringing roughly the same content these days. AMS2 is great, but if I want to knock that game, why they also do the same thing to bring in the same tracks and cars as most games? I thought Endurance Brazil will be the main endurance content for the game, not GTEs, Monza or Spa.

Do you know what I miss the most in racing games? Definitely not esports garbage or NFTs. I miss games like AC1 or Pcars that come with a variety of cars and tracks across the present and past. Not these sterile, hyper esports focused nonsense that cater for race driver wannabe that they cant even bring all cars and tracks from a championship, see ACC or even R3E with still missing tracks and cars. Despite they have a full GTWC or ADAC license.

Is the new video game name Rennsport or is that the name of the company behind it?
Seems like a lot of noise for not much.

Newcomer Rennsport is good for compettion on the sim market. It will be hard, though, to gather a good player base since most people have a few preferred sims they play for many years. I wish Rennsport all the best and I will sure try it next year! On one condition, nft/markets is a big no-no for me.

The only really toxic things at RD are comments like these.

Now, that sounds compelling.

If these answers turns out to be lived up to, then my unreserved apologies for past harsh prejudices.

Especially good news about the mod part - unless it's limited to skin-modding??

What a relief it would be if MSG/RENNSPORT saw the light in competing with AC on the mod part. Just with newer and superior sim engine, physics, graphics engine, etc. with easy feasability for modders.
Maybe even built in mod tools? Just an idea ;)

Speaking official content, does an official RENNSPORT forum exist?
I.e. where simmers can register their wishes of official content, just like the official Reiza, S397, S3S and iRacing forums?

Initially, if you have to relate to the DNA in the title name, personally I badly miss something else than paddleshift race cars, as that kind of simracing interests me far less than driving in H-stick cars (and in distress seq.stick cars) with the joy of controlling your heel&toe virtuocity.

Ofcourse, this nowadays demands a sim developer willing to concentrate a bit on the history aspect, too.

Since I do not see an official RENNSPORT forum, a little registration here (sorry).

I think most obviously, as I understand the sim title, it should be from German heritage.

Tracks
I will mention only one. Though I could mention several, but in a list it is always overseen, but my personal #1 wish since decades before simracing was a thing:
  • Authentic 1983 Nürburgring
This would require a special developer sub-team to live up to my personal expectations here (on level with The TARGA Mod team extensive work of the worlds first full sim modelling a full Targa Florio), with focus on every tiny details of track surface, curbs and surroundings.

Cars

Competition H-gear cars of more recent era (probably most edible for a sim going for the masses.):
  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
  • Audi R8 V10
  • Porsche 911 GT3 RSR
  • Audi TT-R
  • AMG-Mercedes CLK DTM (or was that seq.stick? nvm, this goes too for my T8HA)
  • Opel Astra V8 Coupé
  • Porsche 911 GT1
  • Alzen Porsche 996 Bi-Turbo

Historic German race cars
This is especially what drives me - "the epitome of sim" you could call it:
The sim task being on the challenge of modelling authentic fragility of mechanical breakdown
  • Porsche Abarth 356B Carrera GTL
  • Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR
  • BMW 2002
  • Porsche 935/2.0
  • Audi Quattro 80 "UrQuattro" and Sport Quattro "S1E2"
  • Porsche 907 and 908
  • BMW M30 Group A
  • Porsche Glöckler 356 Roadster
  • Mercedes-Benz W125
  • Porsche 917 both Langheck and Kurzheck versions as well as /30 american model, though now leaving German ground (a bit)
  • Auto Union Type A, C and D
Mod requests

Gazillions :D
But could be interesting racing RENNSPORT mod versions of
  • Authentic 1930s Grand Prix @ Gran Premio di Napoli "Copa Principessa di Piemonte"
I.e. driving the FIAT 508 Balilla, Alfa Romeo 6C-1500 8C-35 and 12C-36's, the Maserati 6C-34 and CM's. Or 1950ies versions in the Gordini T16, Lancia D50, Dino 156, etc.
All at full speed round the dusty slopes of the old town.

Or a fictive classic race like
  • Australian Vintage V8's @ CDR
The roar of these aussies I've enjoyed alot in AC mod versions trying to control at race speed as complex tracs as e.g. VIR long vesion. But CDR I haven't even driven yet in a sim. And reading and later viewing when YT was available, enthusiastic stories from American racing drivers that "the CDR was a better version of Riverside", it would be a pleasure for me.

Sorry if I express greed. Thats not my intention.

I'm just hoping the best for a new sim entering our world is on the right path.

At first hand I'm looking forward to in-depth simracing reviews of RENNSPORT.
Then looking much forward to more quality content.

I'll jump on the bandwagon as soon as there is content for us old H-stick drivers ;)

Have to stop (work is calling), and I have the feeling of missing out obvious content.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine
