All RaceRoom Content Free to Access Until End of May

All RaceRoom Content Free Until End of May.jpg
The rest of May is going to be a treat for sim racers who want to get into RaceRoom: Until May 30th, everything in the sim is completely free to access – cars, tracks and modes are all available to anyone who wants to give them a go.

RaceRoom’s status in the sim racing world is a bit unusual as it is the only big sim that is free-to-play. Apart from the already included base content, the sim has a lot of interesting cars and tracks to offer, however: Licenses for DTM or ADAC GT Masters mean that these series can be fully recreated, as all the tracks they race on are there as well. Even lesser-known tracks such as Bilster Berg or Nogaro are part of the sim.

Exciting car classes make for a good amount of variety regarding the vehicle roster, too: Whether you want to race WTCC cars from 2013 to 2017, 1992 DTM cars or open-wheelers such as the Formula RaceRoom US, a circa 2015-spec IndyCar, RaceRoom has you covered. High-downforce cars with tons of aerodynamic grip are available just as well as a 1969 NSU TTS – and, of course, the shopping cart that was introduced as an April Fool’s joke. In total, over 180 vehicles and more than 50 tracks are there for everyone to try.

Should you feel like starting a ranked racing career, RaceRoom hosts events every week for sim racers to participate in. Recently, ranked championships have been introduced as well, making the online multiplayer even more exciting. Of course, you can also have offline fun in time trial mode or race against AI. You can find the schedule for the coming two weeks below.

Took the DTM 2021 GT3 Porsche round the Lausitzring in a 22 car race this afternoon (The real DTM 2022 season is kicking off there this weekend)

I'd forgotten how good R3E is, especially in VR - I really must give this more playtime.

yeah but i personally do not like the FFB of RR thought, doesnt give as much feedback as the AMS 2 and Rfactor 2 in my experience
Yep FFB is purely personnel from person to person, your experience will always differ from others, me personally, I have gotten use to the new effects over the previous canned crap. I am enjoying it now

R3E may not be the latest and greatest, it may not be the most realistic, but IMO it is one of the most enjoyable racers - it is the mix, call it a kind of Goldilocks zone.

AMS/AMS2 are very similar in that regard, but with a different mix of realism and fun. Whereas R3E, AMS/AMS, AC & ACC are all complete games (AC with mods), RF2 is more of a mixed bag. Some things it does extremely well, but as a game it is pretty rough around the edges.

….in the end we are spoiled with many good titles, but the best simulations are not always the best “games” with the best mix, unless you put simulation above everything else. I rather give up a little on realism if the overall is able to bring more fun. otoh, I am not hardcore.

We all have our own taste, but writing this I realize how much I enjoy R3E - but on the game side, with so much available content, they should provide more “default class rules“ and make it easier to set up and save a custom championship.

Whereas AMS offers a great championship editor ootb, AMS2 dropped the ease of saving multiple championships (there is a workaround, but no editing once started) and R3E enables the setup, but does not facilitate the saving of multiple championships. This is low hanging fruit for solo players and with so much content it brings things together.

It's been a great title, and this is a nice touch to deliver free content for a limited time. But i've been waiting for the Offline exe that had been promised years ago, and finalise releasing content for it so final purchases can be made, and the studio can focus on the next title.

For me, closure is looong overdue with this cash cow. Second worse pricing structure in the entire race-sim scene.

This is great...been trying all kinds of cars and tracks. I'm really enjoying these touring cars. I might have to get the 2020 TC pack when it goes on sale. That Blister Berg is a really fun track as someone mentioned. I really like the Honda Civic TCR (or any of the 2020 TC's) around there.

I really enjoy a bit of Raceroom and bought the premium pack a year or so ago and have most of the content. I know people have different priorities on what aspects of ”sim” racing are important I just think that for all the good stuff in Raceroom it’s main problem is that its just really starting to show its age.

Get it onto a new engine, keep the physics and FFB largely the same (I personally would like more feedback from the track surface) and I’d probably quite happily buy the content again. But as someone who plays these games in no small part for the immersion Raceroom is just getting further behind.

On the other side of that argument I‘m sure part of the joy of Raceroom for some is that you can run it on almost anything (as long as your internet is working), so its a difficult balance.

Thanks for allowing this trial opportunity. I will be spending plenty of track time taking advantage of this although I think I already own 90% of what's offered. Best investment in making me happy!

I now had the opportunity to compare Laguna Seca in rf2, iRacing and R3E.

rFactor2 is clearly ahead the competition in physics but has terrible AI and doesn't run well on my low end PC.

First I didn't like Raceroom too much because of the extensive grip. However, it drives very similar to iRacing. I'd say they are both 15-20% worse than rFactor but the way you drive is not fundamentally different - they also feel realistic just less detailed / car less lively.

So given how terrible rFactor's AI is, I would say Raceroom offers better single player. rFactor's physics are not enough to compensate. I also managed to spin Raceroom's Audi GT3 a few times (with less differential lock) which is an indication of realism - in fact, I could drive the Ferrari GT3 more recklessly in iRacing.

The best driving experience is AMS2 in VR:whistling::thumbsup:
Exactly this, I would even say BY FAR at this moment. Especially after the last few updates, it's miles ahead of the competition.

RR feels now like an very outdated racegame compared to AMS2 in VR... They really need to stop with RR and start developing RR2.
