Formula 1 enters the season finale of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the driver’s championship leaders tied on points.

After a roller coaster ride of a season in F1, the final event of 2021 will be held in Abu Dhabi and will decide the championship battle between Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers are even on points entering the race.

Verstappen has won more races this year than Hamilton, so if the two end up finishing even after this race due to neither scoring points, the championship would go to Verstappen. Momentum seems to be with Hamilton after back-to-back-to-back race wins in Brazil, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, though points momentum has never lasted long this season.

The Yas Marina circuit is a location where both drivers have won in the past, with Hamilton having won numerous times at the track, and Verstappen being the most recent winner. The layout has been altered for 2021 to encourage more overtaking.

Looking away from the feature act of this race weekend, the constructor’s battle between Mercedes and Red Bull seems to be all but decided, with Mercedes holding a 28-point advantage. With Hamilton and Verstappen cancelling each other out on points, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas have been involved in a lower profile battle than their teammates, but one full of surprises just the same.

This will also be the last time we see certain drivers in F1, or the last time we see them with their current teams. Perhaps the biggest departure is Kimi Räikkönen, who will retire from driving after Abu Dhabi. Kimi’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, will also vacate his F1 seat after this season and will race in Formula E next year instead. One of the Alfa Romeo team seats will be filled by Bottas, who will finish this year third in the driver’s standings. His current seat at Mercedes will be filled by George Russell.

This looks to be an exciting finish to a season filled with drama and shocking moments. Let’s hope that we see the best from each of the championship contenders this weekend.

Congratulations to Max, well deserved if you see the season as a whole.
Hopefully we'll see a more fair 2022 with huge improvements regarding race directior decisions.

Mercedes have only themselves to blame. They played it much too safe. Red Bull were in a hard spot and tried everything to make it work and they won. Sure, they got lucky but Mercedes were simply asleep at the wheel.

To let all of the lapped cars through meant the race would have ended under safety car so they said they wouldn’t let them through. Then Horner moaned and they decided to just let the lapped cars in front of max through but not the rest. It’s either one or the other no? Congrats to max and max fans, I’ll admit I wanted Lewis to win but for it to end like that is a bit of a shambles, not that anyone wanting max to win will care. Peace and ❤️

Congratulations to Red Bull in obtaining the Championship and providing a break in Mercedes dominance. I hope it is short lived and we can see other teams make advances that make each season more than a foregone conclusion as to who will be on the podium race to race. I also hope that stewards will be less involved as the ticky tack penalties make good races bad in a hurry. I'll save the rest for a rant.

I agree, Mercedes playing it safe definitely played a part. But we have seen Redbull do the same when leading, it's easier to be aggressive when in second place.

I could have sworn this was being setup for the mother of all comebacks! Well I'm glad I was wrong, Congrats to Max, Red Bull and Holland. Commiserations to Lewis and Mercedes, but it was more than time for a change IMO.
Well said :thumbsup::thumbsup:
I learned many decades ago, never ever assume a race is over.

The stewards.... that was the right thing to do. Get the cars out of the way and try to get the race to finish under green.
You did it MAX!!!!!!!! WDC baby!

edit: I see some bannings happened, I'm assuming someone blew an apex or two. :D

I was hoping Hamilton was going to win, I will say that first, but congratulations to Max.

I do feel that the FIA has a lot to answer for the questionable actions of, changing there mind about who could overtake and couldn't behind the safety car.

They somehow screwed Hamilton (just the overall objective feel) but it was absolutely right to have the race under green with the contenders racing each other.
I would not want to change position with race control, the stewards are so-so always anyway.

And the weaving ... well, the equals the "gave back time advantage" by Hamilton in lap 1, which I failed to see.
