BeamNG Receives Biggest Update to Date

BeamNG 027 Update 01.jpg
BeamNG has been updated to version 0.27, which adds new content and several gameplay and physics improvements.

BeamNG's 0.27 update is touted as its biggest to date. There is a bias toward off-road driving in this update, with no fewer than five new off-road vehicles on offer, and a mountainous desert map known as Johnson Valley to explore.

The perception of BeamNG as a legitimate driving simulator and not just a crash simulator has increased significantly in recent updates. The relentless dedication to vehicle physics established early within the title has served as a perfect platform to create a realistic driving feel for its growing list of content.

Unsurprisingly, a number of physics and gameplay updates also await players as part of the 0.27 build. Customizable bypass shock absorbers, revised EV modelling, 31 new missions, refueling in the Johnson Valley map, and improvements to audio filtering and the bloom effect.

Let us know your thoughts on this update, or anything else BeamNG related, in the comments below. What is your favourite thing about this title? What do you hope they improve in the future?

Since there doesn't appear to be a sub-forum here for BeamNG, I'll post my questions here:

1. How do you change the steering angle when using a wheel as a controller?
2. Is there some way to play with steering deadzone, sensitgivity etc?, and,
3. BeamNG seems to always default to "arcade" gearbox. (ie- step on the brake pedal and you eventually go into reverse.) While it's easy enough to toggle it to "normal" sim gearbox, is there a way to set it to default to that setting?

....and one last question: which map/car combo do you prefer when you feel like just sliding around on dirt?

Thanks!

Seems like the devs have been keeping an eye on the community and took some good things the community has been making and modding, and made official top quality versions (6x6 truck, desert map, amphibious car)

Makes my favorite off-road sim better, so I'm happy :)

1. Under Force Feedback tab in controls, click on your wheel, set the 1:1 type to quicker if needed and then set the second number to your wheel degrees.

2. Under the same tab scroll down and you should find dead zones
3. Yes in the gameplay tab, you can choose realistic transmission type. (As well as no transmission assists and realistic ABS and some other steering aids that I would recommend turning off for wheel users)

4. I love driving the gravel Bolide on rally stages, Italy in particular. But all the rally cars are good fun and so is the new off-road content at the new map.

Fun fact the Amphibious car mod was made by a dev in their spare time in the first place. Infact that dev has a decent amount of mods that are quite fun including a class 10 buggy, a Caterham and a Ariel Nomad

Nice update!

Keep the tips coming guys,
I'm sure I'm not the only one that can use help with settings.:)

Nice update but i was hoping somehow that they would develope the careermode instead of bringing new cars and a new map.

I'm quite impressed by the overall look of their graphics, very tempted to buy it.
It's still maturing, but they came a long way already.

Get it!

No game will give you so much additional content for free over each year, and they're really committed in making what I'd easily call the most dettailed physics ever.
Hopefully their nex tire model iteration and the AI developments will bring more simracers to the title.

Glad I bought this one before I went all No VR/No Buy

Same for me :) Only game I, at times, drag my rig to my desk & monitor into position for.

Just need to find my notebook with all the keyboard short cuts I wrote down...

I still need to make a streamdeck icon set and set it up, so I don't have to reach for kb&m. But moving house 1st.

I really don't like using a wheel and cockpit for this game like a tradional sim.

However I love using the outside camera and the keyboard, just rock driving and baja jumping.

So........I also am tempted to buy this game. Been looking on You Tube at the Nascar mods and wondered if anyone has tried them? There are lots of other series mods (F1, etc.) as well. I wondered if the AI are configured for single player races? It looks really good and there are track mods as well.

BeamNG.drive dev here, just dropping by to say that our vehicle engineers and map artists cannot help with the development of Career mode, that's handled by different people, and is going full steam ahead behind the curtains. We didn't mention any of the improvements we have added to Career mode in v0.27 changelog, as we want to keep that a bit low key for now. You could access Career mode in its current pre-pre-pre-alpha state if you click 6 times quickly tho! :)

To me, Beam NG is the future of race sims. I'm still fairly new myself. So much out there from both the developer and modding. Making interior buttons do the things the buttons are suppose to do. It lacks a little bit of polish with real race cars. It would be interesting to see if some team does a real racing series mod and change the game engine up to see how real racing works.

Does it offer true Trippleview? As in 3 different viewports for rendering?
There is multiview support, but I just found that it is just changing FOV of the different screens. Not a way of changing the screen angles. I hope that I am missing something. I currently have a fishbowl view with my triples and I get motion sick if using for too long.

Like a few other people, I also need to make the shortcut doc

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine
