Automobilista 2 v1.5.5.4: More Battle-Happy AI, Wet Tire Fixes

Just a week after the latest update, Automobilista 2 v1.5.5.4 has dropped. The new patch includes changes to AI behavior in battles for position, a fix for wet tire wear and more LED flag lights.

Even after the big Le Mans update on New Year’s Eve, Reiza Studios are hard at work. Just a week after the previous version, Automobilista 2 has been updated to v1.5.5.4, featuring numerous tweaks and fixes. This includes a bug that saw wet tires wear out at an unreasonably quick rate – now, they should perform as expected.

Automobilista 2 v1.5.5.4: More Realistic AI Behavior

The new update also continues Reiza’s quest to become the go-to singleplayer sim. Multiple AI parameters have been adjusted, meaning on-track battles with them should be much more realistic. While they will not make unreasonable moves and go off track as much anymore, they should also attack and defend in a more believable way. Do not expect them to jump out of the way anymore just because you are close!

Meanwhile, the recently-introduced LED flag panels are now in working order on all grade 1 tracks in the sim. They also support local yellows and are permanently green when there are no incidents to signal. The panels also work on oval tracks as of Automobilista 2 v1.5.5.4.

I am curious how the AI behave now. The article says AMS2 is continuing to become the No. 1 single player sim experience.
Maybe I repeat myself again, but it’s not gonna happen so long as they will not expand the custom championship
slots or brings some sort of career.

The game already offers that much what I just can’t use as I would whish to.

Beside that i am impressed how the game developed. It’s one of my 4 installed and played titles.

Oh missed the bad news about de Ferran. RIP Gil.
His name lives on in my CART 1999 rooster.

I agree with the above post about expanding the number of custom championship slots. We're lucky to have some really great skinpacks for various series over the years, but we're still limited to how many we can use at any one time. Hopefully Reiza can add a few more slots at some point.

Adding Gil de Ferran's title-winning livery was a nice touch as well.

If Reiza would implement an .xml file solution for custom championships, similar to the custom livery and AI file system, then the community (or any single-minded modder) could go about creating a set of championship files for 100% of AMS2 content. Hopefully., the long-awaited custom career mode will open up that possibility, plus additional benefits.

Did a few tests yesterday and here are a few highlights. It is still only in the area of "striving to be #1", but these improvements are great. It is still way, waaaay behind the best one though because of the AI not having proper drafting abilities and they still do not defend the inside of a corner.

P.S. - AI at 110 and MAX aggression. Especially the AI always giving room to the player no matter what seems to have been improved, as well as the AI wanting to drive side-by-side a lot more and not give up.

Assetto Corsa is the best single player SIM because it actually feels similar to real driving, unlike Automobilista 2 which feels like constant WIP. i keep AMS2 installed though, because i hope one day it will improve to atleast AC level driving realism, and hopefully modders can do great things to AMS2 like they have with AC, but i see the modders are more interested in working on AC as it just works.

No… AMS2 is not a modding platform, that’s why.

Doesnt take a pure simulator to create mods people want - no hesi - traffic swimming - blah blah

If you use custom AI files it's sometimes worth checking the defend parameter of the AI drivers. I tend to use something around 70-99 for this parameter because I want them to defend like good drivers. Worth a try imo.

I didn't think Max Aggression was meant to be a good idea as it puts every driver at max aggression rather than there being a spread of aggression levels through the field?

Before this update it was pretty much the only way for me to enjoy some semi-decent competition and have the AI fight, and even then it was underwhelming. Now it finally seems like MAX is a proper MAX level as the video has shown. I have to tests more with Medium and High settings to see how much of a difference there is now .

Great to see another update, I did a few quick 10-lap races at Daytona, LMDH + GT3 multi-class.
AI 110 + high aggression.

Ai movements have improved a bit but the faster classes are still struggling to pass the slower cars entering and exiting corners, once they pull out to pass they seem to hesitate and drive beside the slow car matching its speed for a few seconds and then accelerates.

I found the AI defending was more so against each other and not many, if any made towards the player.
The inside line seems to always be left open for a pass

It is nice to see the AI not doing weird jerky lateral movements and are a bit more fluid and there was definitely less AI moving out of the way when you got close.

Hopefully, in a near future build, customizing AI will be as easy as iRacing and done in-game and without file editing.

Two updates ago they introduced multi class scoring to the championship mode but I found during the race your position within class was not showing, just your overall.
Can anyone confirm if this has been fixed and works like all the other multi class modes?

Ex. Displaying position in class + overall ingame
Maybe I need to enable something?

Yeah or mid-race saves... I cannot understand how one is supposed to have an offline experience if not able to stop at any time. How are you suppose to take on endurance ?

The AI have gotten worse since the version released in the big driveability update with the Hi Tech cars, certainly for fans of historical F1. That was when the AI were finally interesting to race, partly as they were more consistent and respectful, but also that they had some unpredictability lending them some much needed character.

With the Le Mans update they "Disabled AI half-spin mistakes on corner exit" which already half killed the fun of single seaters (one suspects because the GT3 Endurance crowd disliked the effect and in fairness it isn't as suited to a GT3 as a 80's/90's F1)

With the latest update it seems to have gotten worse again. F1 cars back to clumps and chains of bumper to bumper, rarely if ever managing an overtake, woefully easy to slip down the inside on numerous corners on numerous tracks.

It gone from been great fun with an unpredictable, evolving racetrack back to a disheartening race on rails with placid AI within a couple of updates.

An endurance race, it's nature about caution and consistency is not the same as 90 min circuit race, but in fine tuning the AI the former seems to be dictating the direction of travel.

Hoping Reiza find an answer because it will be the F1 nuts playing this game long after the GT3 crowd have moved onto something else new and shiny.

It's interesting seeing all the headaches LFM are having with their AC support. I do really like AC, but it doesn't "just work", it requires a fair bit of maintenance and tweaking to get it working at its best. AMS2 by contrast, does tend to just work, leaving aside the multiplayer bugs.

After the last update, I have stuttering issues that makes the game unplayable, the same ones that occur if you go to your desktop while in game and come back and try to play.

Crossing my fingers that this issue will magically disappear after this update the same way it magically appeared after the last.
