Automobilista 2 Super V8 NASCAR Skin Pack Now Includes Days Of Thunder Liveries

OverTake user @TomLehockySVK has put together an updated NASCAR skin pack for the Super V8 in AMS 2, including liveries and AI drivers for NASCAR legends and even fictional drivers from Talladega Nights and Days of Thunder.

The Super V8 on AMS 2 may be based on a Gen 2 mishmash of a Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon that raced in the Australian Supercars championship, but as there are no US-style stock cars, the class serves as a stand-in. The Super V8s in Automobilista 2 do come with oval setup presets and a big V8 engine, so the basics are taken care of.

Having already released multiple NASCAR packs, @TomLehockySVK has now updated their Super V8 liveries - inlcuding a throwback to what is probably the best-known NASCAR movie, Days of Thunder.

Drivers and Liveries Available

As part of this skin pack, you get not only the liveries available from many NASCAR drivers, but even AI drivers with the names of NASCAR legends. You can have the likes of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr., Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip, all with liveries that they have ran throughout their career.

Speaking of liveries, most drivers have for the most part only one livery assigned to them. But in the case of Tim Richmond, it is possible to swap the default livery of the Old Milwaukee colour scheme he ran in 1985 and change it to the Folgers livery he ran in 1986. @TomLehockySVK does provide instructions on how to swap them out along with how to install the files as is.

Days of Thunder Meets Talladega Nights

But that is not all, because if you are a movie fanatic, you can race some liveries from NASCAR movies like Talladega Nights and Days of Thunder. Will Ferrell's character Ricky Bobby is available as an AI as well as the #62 ME sponsored livery, but unfortunately none for any of his fellow drivers like Cal Naughton, Jr. or Jean Girard are included - maybe that could be the next add-on?

Fun fact: The "ME" car was actually raced in real-life NASCAR by Kurt Busch in 2012 - fittingly at Talladega. Busch even took the lead of the race for a bit, but later spun out and was classified in 20th at the end. The design was a result of Busch's Phoenix Racing team not having any sponsorship for the race, so they went with the Ricky Bobby scheme - and even had a cougar plushie riding shotgun with Busch.

As for Days of Thunder though, two for Tom Cruise's character Cole Trickle, both his Mello Yello and his City & Superflo sponsored cars, are included. Additionally, the character of Rowdy Burns' Exxon car, Aldo Benedetti's Goody's car and the Hardee's car driven by Russ Wheeler take to the grid. With the exception of Trickle's Mello Yello car and the EXXON-liveried Burns car, all of these Days of Thunder liveries are part of the latest add-on.

Meanwhile, @TomLehockySVK has also released an update to the Stock Car Brazil 1999 NASCAR liveries pack - all paint schemes have been reworked for more detail and sharper textures, with a second set of liveries and drivers being added, too.

Now if this does not call for the addition of proper NASCAR-style stock cars to Automobilista 2...

they look so silly on that "ugliest era or v8 supercars" car shape. Over on Assetto Corsa we have those liveries on actual Nascar mods.
I think they look pretty good.
A massive improvement on the standard game liveries.
I think that putting them down just because you prefer the ones in AC is a bit harsh but you are of course entitled to your opinion.
I personally appreciate all of the hard work and on going effort that the guy has put in to these liveries.

Thank you for the article ! Days of Thunder is still one of the best movies about racing ever made. Alongside RUSH i would say the two best ones ever.

Bucket list item: when in Charlotte I will go see Harry Hogg's workshop before they tear it down.

Tom's made A+ sets for most fender series in AMS2 and they are just incredible. The old late 70's/early 80's on the old Opalas are just perfect. The 90's Supercars with the 90's NASCARs? Also divine!
