The 2023 IndyCar mod for Automobilista 2 has received a major update. From official helmets and suits to refined custom AI, this update is a fantastic expansion for the IR18 mod.
IndyCar and sim racing - it is a complicated story. Outside of iRacing and rFactor 2, it is generally not a discipline in which you can easily race, especially with licenced content. Meanwhile, the last official game to date is almost 20 years old. However, over the last fifteen months, the IndyCar IR18 2023 mod has graced the tracks of Automobilista 2 as a great alternative.
The mod by @Immersion Modding Group (and uploaded by @luijo) started with a fairly basic package inlcuding the Dallara IR18, the liveries, and handful of other offerings. However, with the time dedicated to the mod, it has grown to be the most popular AMS2 addition on OverTake.

The standout features in v2.2 are the full set of 38 driver helmets, the unique engine sounds for the Honda and Chevrolet enginse respectively, and the updated AI performance. There are many other smaller adjustments and additions such as animated helmet ventilation hoses - this level of dedication to the art of modding AMS2 could be a great sign for future projects. The default setups have been adjusted as well.

Follow the instructions to install 'Content Manager' if you do not already have it, then, simply drag and drop the downloaded file from the IR18 mod page into the window of 'Content Manager'. Check the box on the left and hit apply to make it appear in Automobilista 2 after a short installation process.

Recommended AI Settings
The mod creators also want to ensure sim racers have the best experience possible with the mod, so they also added recommended settings for the computer-controlled opposition. The AI in Automobilista 2 are generally good to race against, but on the ovals, they can get a bit too excited. With that in mind, set the AI aggression to medium.- AI Aggression: Medium (used for most testing/calibration)
- Indianapolis Oval: run max (31) opponents
- Road/street courses: run 27 opponents (or 26 if you intend to replace a real driver)
- Other ovals: run 28 opponents (or 27 if you intend to replace a real driver)

How To Install The Mod
The installation process is nice and straightforward. If you are experienced with Assetto Corsa in any way, you have probably used or at least heard of 'Content Manager'.
