Assetto Corsa Hits New Peak Player Record

The most popular racing simulator out there today has reached new heights: In its 10th year of existence, Assetto Corsa has set a new peak player record over the weekend.

There is no denying that Assetto Corsa is the darling of the sim racing world. The title will turn 10 years old this winter, but it is still going strong - or rather stronger than ever. Countless mods have elevated Kunos Simulazioni's debut title to heights the developer probably never expected.

For the longest time, the AC player peak was at just under 7,000, achieved when the game released on December 19, 2014. Since the pandemic, the title has gained a substantial amount of players, setting new peaks regularly. Most recently, the record was 19,317, set in December 2023.

On Sunday, June 23, Assetto Corsa set a new record at 19,661 concurrent players as per steamdb.info (19,585 according to steamcharts.com) - a remarkable feat considering the game's age. Without the enormous amount of mods, such as those in our download section, AC's history would most likely have been a very different one.

How long will the record last?

At the time of writing this article, AC (and Assetto Corsa Competizione, too) are on sale on Steam, with the base game being a mere €1.99 and the Ultimate Edition €16.24. It is likely that those heavy discounts are part of why the new peak player record was set.

And it may well be that this record will not be around for too long. The Steam Summer Sale 2024 is just around the corner and is set to commence on June 27, 17:00 UTC. Usually, the Steam sales events offer enormous savings on all sorts of titles, including in sim racing. Keep an eye on our website for an overview of racing games that are part of the sale!

When most other options are as buggy as they and the community banding together to continue to raise the floor of AC it's tough to believe this hasn't happened multiple times over the past year...

AC might not be my top choice for driving pleasure, but it ticks the most boxes to find populated online racing...

Absolutely. :D
Was in AC exclusively that day, like the day before and like today (so far).

Sunday, I spent most of my rig time in VR at 1991 Barcelona, racing a very accurate 1990 F1 period grid, in all kind of weather, in a Ferrari 641.

To me, AC has all I ever need in a SIM. All the content and cherry on the sundae, it is also the one I prefer driving.

The fact that it is also the preferred SIM of so many other, makes perfect sense to me and I see no reason it will not continue to rise.

Long live AC.

All things being equal, if a 10 year old game is the most played sim out there in 2024, that says a lot about and to the more recent competition. Notes should definitely be taken about what to offer in a sim (open to modding being number one), if somebody else aims to have this kind of success and longevity. No developer in their right mind can excuse themselves that they didn't know the recipe.

Though how many are drifting in these stats ?
Other than that, yes, AC will bury all sims, past, present and future.
The only sim remaining you can play at old age will be AC. Enjoy your AC.

Not sure if this is playing an effect. Lastest CSP preview patch for Patrone has new surface FX. This opens up for rally play too. Also reportedly next preview release will have co driver as well.

What new hub?
This is the one everyone has been chirping about. I don't like huds while racing myself. But each their own.

Also even the Ultimate version is dirt cheap (less than a car or track in iRacing ) when on sale or via third party Steam keys shops. And of course it has many mods like CSP, SOL, and more than thousand third party cars and tracks. Plus LFM support for ranked multiplayer.

Yes, testing new mods for my FWD vs RWD events here on Overtake/RaceDepartment.

Well, that 10 year old sim is still updated by the community on a daily basis.
So many people that are developing content.
Than Content Manager with all his extra functions and features as icing on the cake.
It will still go strong in another 5 years.

I have never liked Assetto, I play iRacing, raceroom, ACC or rF2/LMU, far better.
The majority has old PC and cheap wheel base and uses AC not as the closest thing from reality. The minority like me with simucube 2+ 4090 prefers higher level simulation and AC is far from being the best.
But the F1 driving feeling in AC is very good.

Its not really down to Kunos though is it? Apart from the fact they made the game easy to mod. And some of the modders are probably making more out of it than they do. The CSP guy earns around 40k a month I believe...

Yes, all evening at Monza with all the cars of the intermediate series. Struggling to improve with the Mercedes SLS AMG. It seems that KTM X Box wasn't enough undriveable.

Its not necessarily how its been supported. How many people will buy ACEvo do to fan support of Kunos, even though they started with AC after Kunos support ended.

Your comment is almost complete Teddy, but you forgot to mention how much you hate AMS2.
As the minority I can say, AC, with all its visual mods and shaders, is a blast in VR. Maybe not the best sim but fantastic enough!
