The first big Assetto Corsa EVO open world news has dropped like a bomb on the sim racing world. Upon release, the upcoming title will include over 1600km2 of Lidar-scanned terrain from the Eifel region in Germany.

Available for players to experience as early as the Summer of 2025, Assetto Corsa EVO is expanding sim racers' horizons with a mighty free-roaming experience that faithfully recreates one of the world's most legendary and infamous sections of roads surrounding the Nürburgring. The vast expanse will be added In stages, so do not expect everything all at once.

Complete challenges and races around the roads of the Green Hell to unlock modifications, upgrades and new parts for your cars. Not only will you be able to drive and complete challenges on the roads in Eifel, but you will also be able to interact with local businesses that are actively trading in real life in this section of Germany.

From renting accurately liveried track cars like the Hyundai i30N to kitting out your daily driver with all the best track-focused equipment, this could undoubtedly be one of the most revolutionary free-roaming experiences ever debuted in sim racing.

With famous companies Rent4Ring and RSRNürburg in the game, the player will be brought into an ultra-realistic setting that perfectly replicates the roads surrounding the Nürburgring's surrounding roads. Kunos offers local brands and companies the option to include their store in the title. This level of commitment to recreation is fantastic, especially at such a crucial pre-release stage.

Assetto Corsa EVO is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2025. However, the early access period on January 16th will come first. This date has been reaffirmed within this first big release and is still progressing as planned.

Key word "eventually".

To be honest, this sounds like an advert for Kunos to be trying to sell advertising space in the game.

I am getting the impression this just isn't the game for me (wanting to race vintage cars on vintage tracks with a decent AI) because every single announcement they make just makes me less and less excited.

Potential for the infamous traffic jams to get onto the Nurburgring is possible.
Yeah, you have three captioned images in the latest PR for the game and one of them is "maybe there'll be traffic jams" and the others are "they modelled some warehouses". Yippee.

Of course, the free-roam section of the game won't be all that is in AC EVO. I wouldn't write it off just yet! Also, calling RSRNürburg a shed is a wild take!

The more I see about this the more it confuses me as to what exactly this game is aiming to be. Jack of all trades so far but that's not necessarily a good thing. The whole modding side of things isn't really grabbing me either because for every really good mod for AC1 there are 4000 crap ones

Great environment for driving some nice road cars. I hope it will be accompanied by good gameplay because freeroaming alone can get boring.

Pretty sure AC was an attempt to emulate Gran Turismo as a sim orientated game on the PC and ended up being successful due to its own character rather then what it attempted to be.

Now it seems they are trying to emulate Forza Horizon as a sim orientated game on the PC, which no doubt will end up having its own unique character.

Don't know if its for me, But time will tell.

AC1 had a similar "jack of all trades" approach, although more limited, it did have point to point, drag racing, and the cars themselves were a mixed offering. AC Evo isnt doing something that can be considered wildly different in my opinion.

It just doesn't appeal to me personally I don't get why a race sim needs a free roam mode. Unless of course you're one of these that enjoy watching people weave in and out of traffic in ac1 on YouTube in 300 cars that all share the same physics but are being sold as top notch mods on patreon :roflmao:

Its not a hard to see thing honestly. Kunos have looked at whats popular in AC, first is its foundation being a sim circuit racer but mods took it from a 300k selling game to a 4million selling game. By far the most popular mods right now are the free roam with traffic mods, no games replicate open world with realistic physics. Kunos are just meeting that demand, if you dont like it this mode isnt for you

Yes, the people who live there applaud, now you can finally race virtually over the narrow country roads and drive yourself to death, maybe it contributes to traffic calming in a positive sense. 🐸 Sarcasm : off🐸

The devil is in the details, of course Kunos has not invented free-roaming, but how they execute it might be a lot more interesting (to me) than any other attempt from other developers I have tried so far.

Asking the actual business that are located in the free-roaming area to participate, bode well for the accuracy of the experience.

Free roaming is not for everyone, but it is also not the only activity available in ACE. As mentioned above, if my rig can handle it, I think I will be in for a good time, which is usually the case when I drive in a Kunos game.

Is it just me, or does January 16 feel not so far off anymore?

Free roam and "no hesi" are 2 completely different things

Calling it a feature is like highlighting Tribune 18 at Le Mans a feature IMO; it's a 3D asset piece of scenery. Don't get me wrong, having the right scenery makes a huge immersive difference and I'm thankful for every modeller that puts care into those details.

The real workshop might be interesting (although I've driven past it 20 times and never been particularly interested to look inside, because there's an actual racetrack with racecars next door) but it's a game, I would surely want to drive, not stare at a car in a workshop.

As I say, this might/must be of interest to someone but it definitely isn't me. Hopefully they show something of the actual race sim at some point in the next month.

I posted in other thread.

Would like to know how sure this is all laser scanned?

We are talking about 1600 km2 that is monster to process that many points.
