Asetek SimSports is going Xbox: The Danish hardware manufacturer has announced a partnership with Microsoft's gaming platform, expanding the choices for console-based sim racers.

The console sim racing hardware market is gaining a major player: Asetek SimSports will have Xbox-compatible gear available in 2025. The Danish manufacturer had already announced in October that it would have console hardware in 2025, and now it confirmed that Xbox will be the platform of choice.

According to the announcement, "new and select exisiting products" will be made console-compatible. Xbox compatibility is usually handled via a chip in the steering wheel itself rather than in the wheel base, as in PlayStation's case, so an Xbox-compatible Asetek wheel could make a full Asetek setup usable on Xbox if this model continues to be used.

However, that also means that existing gear likely will not be compatible by simply changing a few things on the software side. Asetek is known for the upgradability of their hardware, though, so maybe there could be an Xbox upgrade kit for some of its wheels eventually. Right now, it is possible to upgrade a La Prima wheel base, Asetek's entry-level, to the mid-range Forte base using an upgrade kit, for example.

Xbox Cooperation "A Landmark" For Asetek

Asetek CEO André Eriksen calls the cooperation "a landmark. When I launched Asetek SimSports a little more than two years ago, it was my mission to provide the most authentic racing experience possible to as many people as possible. Making our products console compatible through the Designed for Xbox collaboration is a huge step towards realising that ambition."

While no exact launch date is known yet, Xbox-compatible hardware by Asetek will be available in 2025, most likely in the second half of the year.
