Console sim racers can look forward to another player joining their hardware game: Asetek SimSports looks set to release console-compatible gear in 2025.
PC sim racers are spoilt for choice when it comes to sim racing hardware, especially since they can mix and match their gear - a luxury that console sim racers do not have. However, they will be happy to learn that a major player looks set to build compatible gear soon: Asetek has reached a "license agreement with a global console manufacturer", according to a investor relations release of the Danish company.
Thus far, Asetek's sim racing equipment is exclusively available with PC compatibility, which is expected to change in the second half of 2025 - that is when the first console-compatible products are expected "to be available for consumers".
It is not yet known who the global console manufacturer in question might be, as Asetek will announce the specifics "as soon as permission has been granted".
Asetek CEO André Eriksen is already looking forward to the console side of sim racing for his company. "This is what we have been working hard on to achieve. There is a growing number of sim racers worldwide, and Asetek SimSports will now be able to engage with a significantly larger group of gamers. We made a strategic decision a year ago to seek a license, which will enable us to launch the first products already next year. The agreement also feeds directly into our multi-channel go to market plan and will be a key element in driving the accelerated growth strategy for the SimSports business in coming years."
What are your thoughts on Asetek products being available to console sim racers in 2025? And which console manufacturer would you prefer? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our hardware forum!
