Already Coming in Q3 2023: Karting Superstars Announced

Just a week after first being teased, Circuit Superstars developer Original Fire Games has officially announced the follow-up to their debut game: The new title will be called Karting Superstars and is going to launch in Q3 of 2023 already.

What started as a few teaser tweets by Game Designer Alberto Mastretta and was mostly focused on the model of a kart and its driver turned into an announcement including racing footage from the upcoming title in a matter of days.

It is impossible to miss the Circuit Superstars connection: The graphics look just like the top-down racer's, and the circuit in the teaser video is available in that game as well as Siena. The big difference: Karting Superstars is not a top-down racer, but rather uses a third-person view, literally offering a new perspective to a circuit that is already known.

Dynamic AI Difficulty & Replay Mode

Karting Superstars is already available to be added to players' wishlists on Steam, where Q3 of 2023 is listed as the release date. Features include a "tactile physics model that feels accessible while presenting a high skill ceiling", which sounds similar to the physics of Circuit Superstars - the game employed a semi-realistic handling model that rewarded learning the ins and outs of a track, as well as a clean racing line. Also on board are online multiplayer with up to 12 players, a dynamic AI difficulty and replays that come with several different camera angles.

On the other hand, split screen multiplayer, different karts or upgrades to the vehicles, or a career mode are not included. Considering the evolution of Circuit Superstars since its release in 2021, there should be more to come from OFG, however.

So it will be basically just a Circuit Superstars but with one type of vehicle and different camera angle? Well, guess I will wait on heavy discount on this.

Their circuit superstars game is brilliant, a modern GeneRally basically. Going to play the hell out of their Kart game too

here's hoping this perspective will later be available in circuit superstars as well, having hardly ever played other video games than racing games from cockpit view, superstars never cut it for me, couldn't fathom how to work either the keyboard or a controller (lent by my son ...). This might help a distressed boomer :)

Yeesh, identical graphics engine and the same tracks?

It can't be more than $15. Taking the piss otherwise.

Circuit Superstars is my most played game on Steam Deck.

That being said... ehhhh the reason this is coming out suddenly is because it appears to just be a re-orientation of the camera and at most a few new models. I'm not usually a "wait for sale" guy when it comes to indy developers, but this feels more like a standalone expansion than a game. That track is from Circuit Superstars and it seems like they just made the karts twice as big as the current car models. Circuit Superstars already has kart-like handling. I'm torn, because I don't want to complain since the original has so much content that I'd like to cut them some slack... but 15$ for a new camera angle is steep.

This could have me more interested in this dev company than Circuit Superstars ever did...

I'm old, but not that old that I buy stuff because it looks nostalgic...
