Working Gearbox Drive Modes for Assetto Corsa Cars

Working Gearbox Drive Modes for Assetto Corsa Cars 1

Hello,

The Gearbox Drive Modes mod for Assetto Corsa allows you to define various functional drive modes for your car in Assetto Corsa that actually control gearbox behavior.

The idea behind the mod is to enable cars in Assetto Corsa to actually switch driving modes on the fly, and give you the freedom to choose how you want to cruise and roam in your favorite tracks or open-world maps.

I've tested it with "Pro" drive settings (manual clutch and gearbox), and the drive modes work fine.

Showcase Video

The mod includes a script that allows you to have functional drive modes including "Manual", "Sport+", "Eco", and "Lazy" (a bonus not showcased in the video).

In manual mode, you have full control of the paddle shifters and gearbox as per your drive and assist settings. In any other mode outside manual, the gearbox works autonomously, following its programming.

In "Sport+", the gearbox takes control over its shifting, revving up to the limiter before upshifting. This mode is therefore very aggressive on shifts, with a very responsive throttle.

In "Eco", the gearbox ranges between low to mid RPM, shifting up much earlier. The throttle response is, therefore, calmer than in "Sport+" and for open-world cruising, the car might just consume less.

In "Lazy", the gearbox still ranges between low to mid RPM, as in "Eco" mode, but it starts at second gear instead of first, and skips 5th to go from 4th to 6th. Essentially, the 8-speed gearbox becomes a six-speed, with an even calmer throttle response compared to "Eco."

You can switch between these driving modes as you're driving using extra option J.

Installation

I've done a very quick installation video that you can watch to install and test the mod.

Important Edit

I forgot to add an important step in the installation video. Go to content manager -> settings -> assetto corsa -> controls -> patch and bind a button to extra option J. That's the button used to switch drive modes

If you're to modify any of your cars or use it in your own mods, installation should be pretty much the same.

Modifying it to Your Own

The lua script also has instructions on how you can program your own gearbox for your own car, reusing the script itself. You only need to modify very few areas, and I've outlined where within the script.

Feel free to use and modify the script for other cars in your library or a mod you're working on. Hopefully, I'll see a car mod use the script and show the drive modes change at the dash .

Please note: This mod might not work with h-pattern vehicles. But the rest should be totally fine.

This is my first mod ever here, so kind of excited and anxious. Feel free to leave your comments and ratings. And if you love the work, you can buy me a cup of coffee through my PayPal email: ianomondi0308[at]gmail[dot]com (Paypal.me links don't work in my area).

You can also use that email to contact me.

I hope you enjoy this. Am available for questions and support about using the mods in other cars, in case you get stuck.

Thanks and happy driving!
