This will add 18 original vintage balloon designs to your ...content\objects3D folder so that you can easily add them to any track using the included config without having to add the actual balloon kn5 models to the track folder, thus simplifying matters and saving HD space by not duplicating balloon models across several track folders. Thanks to @Sliderman for the idea and for the config path.
Each of the 18 balloons has a 25% chance of appearing every time you load the track, so on average you should get between four and five random balloons added (with no duplicates), but you might get two. Or seven. If you restart the race then the same balloons will appear but in different positions. If you want different balloons you need to reload the track and see what the Balloon Gods randomly bestow on you. It's like a metagame of bingo but without the farts and body odour.
Installation:
Unzip the attached zip file and place the 'content' folder in your main 'assettocorsa' folder.
Copy the text from the models.ini file (open with WordPad instead of NotePad if possible to maintain the formatting) and add it to the end of the existing models.ini for the relevant track.
Note: if the track has several layouts it'll have a models.ini for each of those layouts. You'll need to add the config to each models.ini for every layout that you want the balloons to appear in.
Some simpler tracks don't have a models.ini file. In these cases just copy the one provided in this download to the track folder and add the kn5 track reference from the track folder thus:
[MODEL_0]
FILE=kn5-name-from-the-track-folder.kn5
POSITION=0,0,0
ROTATION=0,0,0
If the track already has dynamic models (normally balloons, blimps or planes) then simply renumber the dynamic models number(s) so that they are sequential.
Example: [DYNAMIC_OBJECT_3], edit this digit so that all dynamic objects follow a numerical sequence.
If you use the track for online use then create a new layout and put the balloon config in there to avoid checksum errors when racing online.
Use:
The balloons have randomised starting positions and randomised movement and have a wide positional range so should not clash with each other, but if you do notice anything odd or just want to try repositioning any balloons then just put new figures into this line for the dynamic object (balloon) that you want to move:
RND_POS_CENTER=0,250,0
(the first and last numbers are X and Y coordinates of the balloon in metres relative to the track 0,0,0 datum as viewed from above, and the middle number is the Z height of the balloon in metres above the track datum).
Note that the starting positions of the balloons assumes a track datum of 0,0,0. Some mod tracks have weird datums so in very rare cases you might need to adjust the X, Y, or Z positions in the config, for example if the balloons are all too high, under the ground or off on the horizon. For the vast majority of tracks the attached config should be fine.
[I'll probably do something similar to this for my other balloons to replace the existing track configs/kn5 duplication]
