The ai_hints.ini makes it so that there is less crashing when the ai drive over the rainbow bridge, so you can now have better races against them. It's a baseline setting and definitely not perfect. Open the file if you'd like to tweak it yourself, I've left some instructions on how to do it.
The pit lane ai *usually* works. Due to the way the pits are set up, some longer cars with short turning angles will have a tough time leaving the pits. Track day and AI pitting should function properly for the most part though.
