I've created a mod that should help with the lack of downforce and grip in F1 2021. It's not a crazy mega downforce mod or anything like that, just something that takes the edge off the unrealistcally unforgiving physics in the game has this year.
I was inspired to make it after seeing people's reactions and comparisons between the newly released iRacing Mercedes and the F1 cars in F1 2021, the general feeling being that driving an F1 car is a lot easier and more fun than F1 2021 makes out. As it is, driving in F1 2021 can be a bit like driving on ice sometimes. This mod should help combat that.
This is technically a mod with 2 steps:
Step 1: Download this mod, open the .zip file and drag and drop the "2021_asset_groups" folder into your F1 2021 game directory. When asked if you want to replace the existing files, click Yes.
Step 2: Download the "Tyre Grip at High Speed" mod here: https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/tyre-grip-at-high-speed.46266/ - open the .zip file and drag & drop the "tyrecompounds" folder into "F1 2021\2021_asset_groups\f1_2021_vehicle_package" folder, and replace the existing files.
I've edited the aero lines and increased the max tyre grip in each team's car file. I've only tested it with 25% races so far, so I don't know yet what the effect will be regarding tyre wear as I've left minimum grip as is. If there are issues with this in longer races, let me know and I'll look at it.
Personally, before this mod, I was using the T-Cam and racing at about 85%, dropping to 80% or lower for certain races. In cockpit, I'm usually 1 second slower, so I usually drop this by another 10%.
After installing the mod, I was able to race at 90% consistently, using cockpit cam and without having to alter the difficulty in the more difficult races. The racing was a lot more enjoyable and I was also able to push through corners that I previously had to lift off in. I've not only been able to keep up with the AI at the high speed turn at Zandvoort, but actually try and push through it too. This is in part thanks to the separate 'Tyre Grip at High Speed' mod.
Check it out and let me know what you think. All suggestions are welcome. This is a first attempt so there are probably improvements that could be made here and there. If there are any other areas of the car physics you think could be made more realistic (such as dirty air, drag, slipstream, weight, fuel consumption, etc.), let me know and I'll try my best to improve it.
This mod is for F1 cars only, if you think F2 cars need looking at, let me know.
Final Note: Don't use this mod online, there is a good chance of a ban from multiplayer if you do.
