Ah, the Black Beauty, it is said that it's the most powerful Mk2 Escort ever built, one of the latest works cars, driven in 1982 by none other than Ari Vatanen. With its iconic black and white livery, sponsored by Shell Oils, it is easily recognisable. Sadly, this very unique livery was briefly used, as it was only rally-ed on 1982. While the car was fast, as proved on the Rothmans Manx International Rally, which Vatanen lead against the more modern Ascona 400 of Henri Toivonen and Jimmy McRae, mechanical failures, an exclusion and ultimately an accident at Manx made a not-so-happy season for Vatanen.
Well, it is true that the livery was used only on 1982, but what if Shell had decided to stay rallying with Ford, using the black livery? I've got you covered with a 3-part serie of liveries, which will include, of course, the Black Beauty Mk2 Escort, and an Escort Cosworth.
In part 1, Shell had decided to compete (as well as sponsor) in the British Rally Championship in 1982 using the Ford Sierra Cosworth, driven by Ari Vatanen himself and Terry Harryman.
Without using the exact same sponsors as the 1982 Escort, I tried to make the Sierra look as close to the real car as possible, but updating the Shell logos from the S present on the Escort to Shell's scallop shell logo and adding Shell's Gemini Oil sponsorship. I tried to make the car look as period correct as possible.
I hope you like the car and enjoy these "What if..." liveries. Have fun!
