Force Feedback Mod Mashup 1.2

Login or Register an account to download this content
1.2 Update!! Please see update information. Only one file needs changing as with the 1.1 update. A good amount of the noise is back, but so is some of the feel. I got an STI 6 weeks ago and have taken it offroad a fair bit to some sand, dirt, and gravel, so I believe that has helped me more closely approximate the feel as much as I could figure out thus far. Give it a go and please comment whether or not favorable. That's why the failed quiet profile is now replaced!

1.1 Update!! Please see update information. Only one file needs changing and the profile will be much quieter than before. Please comment with your feedback, whether good or bad!!
--------------------

I created this mashup based on the effect file of IMPACT 7.0, a scale-up of the FFB profile from LAR555, and both profiler and effect settings of Nonbinary Polyamorous Wolfling.

The profile is meant for a G27 with a larger aftermarket wheel due to the heavier weight (I have a 337.5 mm Sparco wheel), but should work well for the G27 in general. The idea was to capture the vibration of the road from TemplarGFX's effects, the slippage and countersteering feel from NPW's effects and profile, and the balance of effects from LAR555's published FFB settings for DR.

It is a fairly stiff setting but not an exaggerated one. If you find it too strong, lower the first four settings in the profile by 2 each or by 7 each and see if that is more to your liking.

Also, if you are on a stock wheel size for the G27, you may want to try an Overall Effects Strength of 107 vs 110 to slightly lessen the effect, but do not go below 107.

Enjoy, and I'd appreciate feedback on what you think!

To install:
1. Change your Logitech Profiler's Global Device Settings for your G27 to match those shown below.
2. Copy your existing files from your "forcefeedback" folder in Dirt Rally. By default, this path is at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DiRT Rally\forcefeedback
3. Extract the three files in the zip archive to that folder in place of the existing ones you copied to a backup location. (Note: only effectsetup_v2.xml is modified from the original default.)
4. Subscribe to: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=662886277 and load that FFB preset (settings shown below in image of Vibration & Feedback).

Once moving, you should definitely be feeling wheel resistance...more resistance on tarmac and more slippage/looseness particularly on snow. At the start line, you won't likely feel any significant resistance.

This is a noisy profile due to the transmission of lesser vibrations, but for me this has greatly increased my ability to "feel" the road. It will likely be a better setup for those with loud systems or with good headsets (I use a GameZero with a FiiO E-17 amp and that combination sounds awesome with Razer Surround software).

You probably won't be playing this profile on a G27 if your wife is asleep in the same room. :)

Logitech profiler spring effect & damper effects are 0% thats why wheel friction and tire friction is no use. its feels light sometimes because of that. they are canned effects anyway

This is the best FF mod and settings I've tried. You can really feel the car lose and gain grip, which really helps you to suss how much or how little welly to give it. This also is great on tarmac too. Well done!
Now its a good mod. I'm using stock G27 and 110% on global force. It seems ok on all roadbed
Was using Impact 7.0 till now, this feels so much better I actually can feel the weight of the car, have better control, much more responsive than before. All in all a great mod. I use a G27 only change was profiler set to 107%

BTW you might want to nudge it up from 107% to 110% which is what I use. See what you think anyway. :)
Good mod but i think on gravel more wheel vibration is needed to have more reality

I definitely agree and finally have a 1.2 mod that tries to correct the lack of feel I introduced in 1.1 at the expense of moderate rattle. See if you like the update.
Great thanks for the work!
This Force Feedback Mod is at its best. The Feel is really good and it makes my driving better than other mods or the original force feedback. There is only one thing which could be better in my opinion (but it's still a powerful and great mod): The resistance when turning the wheel is (like Lennart Groessel wrote) a bit to easy. I have everything set up like in the description (G27).

Either way: Great Mod and i can only recommend it...
I have two small questions. First is it normal that my G27 is rattling loud? Second is it normal that I can turn my steeringwheel with nearly no force ?

It is normal for the rattling to be loud, perhaps moreso with this profile as it does provide more road feel vibration. However, you should definitely be feeling force resistance when turning. You might want to double-check your global profiler settings as compared to what I illustrated in case there is a subtle difference between the two.
