Kunos' Drift track is by far one of the most used circuits on Assetto Corsa (Fun fact, did you know it exists in real life? The real life track is called Motorland SP in Japan ).
Anyway, you will always find plenty of lobbies with people drifing on this twisty freeroam map. However, it has always surprised me how Kunos didn't implement some AI files and created some layouts on the track to go racing, as they would be very fun on low-power cars, Formula Student racers and go-karts
There are 2 particular layouts that I have been hotlapping for a while now. But now it is time to take it to the next level and turn these layouts into proper tracks. And as a bonus, you can enjoy them in the normal direction and in reverse.
Note: All credit goes to the amazing team at Kunos. This is simply an addition of 4 layouts to the Drift track. This mod does not overwrite nor alter any of your existing files in the Drift folder
What changes?
Well, nothing is changed, simply added. You will still be able to enjoy the Freeroam Drift track both offline and online
OK, what has been added then?
-4 fully working layouts (Trioval, Trioval Clockwise, Karting and Karting Anti-Clockwise)
-AI files for said layouts
-Fully functional pit lane (now you can actually box)
-Proper starting grid. Race up against 19 other cars
-MAD Formula Team track skin (for the full MAD experience, try out the MAD Formula Team MFT02)
The Layouts
Trioval and Trioval Clockwise: Possibly the most obvious layout of the two. I'm sure you have already done some laps around this 0.8km, 3 corner racetrack, even if it was by accident. Now it is time to race here.
Don't be fooled by the appearance of the track, it is an extremely challenging circuit. Give it a shot with some of the smaller, more nimble cars available for Assetto Corsa...
...or funnel your inner Nascar short track racer and try out a race with Stock Cars
One more thing, when driving on the clockwise layout, careful with pit exit
Karting and Karting Anti-Clockwise: Exploring the various roads on the map, I came across almost by accident with this gem of a layout. 1.3km and 14 turns are the stats of this pretty fun little track.
To help you out navigating this course, extra tyre walls are placed across the track blocking the unused roads.
The normal layout feels more natural, but the anti-clockwise layout is slightly faster and harder to get right. Both are incredibly fun however
Being so tight and technical, it is very hard to race with large cars around here. That being said, hustling a Group B car through this tight and narrow circuit is tons of fun. Rally cars in general are great fun around these 2 layouts
The width of this track means it is great for go-karts, but it is even more suited for Formula Student/FSAE cars. It is small enough and tight enough to make this track a proper challenge for these cars, but it is wide enough to allow for good racing and plenty of overtakes.
I am biased here as the creator of the MAD Formula Team MFT02, MAD Formula Team MFT01 and the MAD Formula Team MFTC3, but they truly feel at home on this track. You can also try out the other 2 FSAE cars available on Race Department (Formula Student UCM 2016 and Monash M17c).
