Attached is a high definition replica of Joel Anderson's Datsun 240Z built to IMSA GT specifications. The car was campaigned in 1979 and 1980 by Anderson, and has since been restored and run regularly in vintage racing events in California and beyond. The livery has been built up for use with the gd_nissan_240zg model.
Originally an Ontario Motor Speedway Pace Car gifted to the racetrack president by Nissan's legendary Yutaka Katayama, this Z passed through hands and was eventually sold to privateer Anderson in the late seventies by 'Datsun Comp.' for one dollar. The car was built to a high level of development in order to compete in IMSA's GTU Class, and along with the high performance L-series engine and suspension components, was fitted with the distinctive ZG body kit.
By the beginning of the new decade, factory supported S30 Z cars were rapidly superseded by the S130 Datsun 280ZX Turbo. So for independent racers like Anderson, the-by-then affordable 240Z chassis proved a capable platform of being campaigned on a modest budget while being able to hang out amongst the newer and meaner race cars on the grid.
Joel passed away in March 2021 at age 79. However, his distinctive Z continues to be maintained and lovingly run in his memory by 'Z Car Garage', of San Jose, at historical racing events in the California region. An awesome write-up on their blog remembers Anderson and the history of this car.
This model is a joy to drive in Assetto and fits in very well with the recent
