2002 BMW 325i (E46)
Installation
Using 7zip, extract the contents of the 7z to your Assetto Corsa cars folder, creating cars/oneweek_bmw_e46_sedan/
This mod requires the Custom Shaders Patch, almost any version is acceptable but best results will come from latest (0.1.62). It's using a physics correction for the trailing arm suspension to make it behave correctly.
Acknowledgements
Stereo - 3d models, textures, physics, bad ideas
aphidgod/mclarenf1papa - origin of some physics (not actively created for this mod; but they are the right 205/55-r16 tires)
Kunos - audio from E30 Drift
What is going on? Why is the car so blurry?
I'm glad you asked. I've been building cars for Assetto Corsa for 7 years now. A common theme during that time, avoided on essentially one occasion, is that it takes a long time to finish a car. Longer than I planned. The result being, I've released fewer cars than I'd like.
Measures were put into place to ensure this did not happen again. The folder name has the "oneweek" label; this time that is accurate. Streamlining of the procedure, accepting some loss in visual fidelity, this mod was started from scratch last weekend, blank Blender file, and now it is done.
But seriously, I said "what if I don't use any photos or anything, just draw the textures in MSPaint. What would that look like" and then this happened.
It's an E46 sedan because I had a folder of pictures handy, but it's just slightly too samey, a little too uncool, shall we say conventional of design, to have ever reached the top of my todo list.
Physics
Certain things should be taken as common knowledge. The sun rises in the east, Mercedes wins the F1 championship... car simulations are inaccurate. This vehicle, while prepared using real-world data published by the manufacturer, is by no means accurate. The conditions under which 185 horsepower was achieved by the 2.5L straight 6 are a mystery. The diagrams detailing BMW's suspension design efforts may or may not be drawn to scale. The curb weight is a matter of record, but does that include the CD changer in the boot? To the extent data was available, I've used it. To the extent data was unavailable, I've got plausible values in place. It's very driveable, it's not likely to surprise you.
Audio
The BMW E30 Drift has an S52 swap, turbo 6 cylinder M3 engine. This is an M54 naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine, so they are close but not a perfect match. You may want to try the BMW M235i cup racer's audio; it's also a turbo six.
The Mod
As per usual, I've decided to release this as 0.9 because it's not been particularly thoroughly beta tested. 1.0 corrects most of the bugs found but there are still a few minor problems.
Due to the nature of the project, I'm only going to be correcting actual bugs, not visual problems or perceived "my Skoda doesn't understeer this much" style flaws. It's a low-powered middle management sedan, not a sportscar, it's not trying to break any records for skidpad Gs or 0-60s. Be thankful it exists at all, or ignore it, up to you. Myself, I wanted a change of scenery on the LA Canyons, throw in a little of the opposite of spice. Something you would not remark on if you passed it.
If for some reason you really like this concept and think I should do more cars this way, I'm open to feedback for moving in that direction. Think about it; this took me 6 days. I could do about 50 a year, instead of my more normal pace of 1 every 12-18 months. That's a lot of grids filled.
